  • One hundred years ago, on Nov. 13, 1918, Milton S. Hershey placed his shares of equity stock in the Hershey Chocolate Company into a trust fund for the Milton Hershey School.
The 5,000 shares “ensured the well-being and future of Milton Hershey School in perpetuity.”
Hershey Industrial School was established Nov. 15, 1909, on the farm where Milton Hershey was born. In 1910, the first 10 students came to the school.

In an era where we associate education with student loan indebtedness this school stands out as a tribute from the selflessness of Milton S, Hershey to generations that followed which is amazing. I am in awe of the Hershey legacy here. The other day I was looking at an old professional school and realized their educational costs are $45,000 a year and I estimated with $135,000 in loans and another $40,000 for undergrad borrowing in todays dollars I'd be $175,000 in debt. How would I buy a house and car? Raise a family with the crushing loan debt? So, even though Milton S Hershey School is for younger students than college age it remains a testament to humans caring for each other and helping one an other which is what education is all about.
