Nice job Jakob! Nice to see that there doesn't always have to be some crazy alien tech to make a tough little lock. Thanks for the video bill, and nice picking!
Nice 2-pin strategy there! 3 & 5 ... I guess that if you just try to pick pins-down that pinset 3 would keep it from opening ... opposite for chamber 5 ... however you were able to pick the piece of wire up above the shear line. Thanks for sharing this fun lock!
So yeah, the idea is that you have to turn the lock or reach really high. Also, you missed a small pice of steel also in chamber 3 that keeps the key-pin in the sheer-line if you try to pick the lock with pins down.
Bill it's 6am here and I will watch this video when I am actually awake. But before I forget, and I will forget, when buying sparrows pics does the thermal dip affect feed back in anyway? I have the option for the thermal dip or without. The extra cost isn't the issue, I am just unsure of what the difference is.
Jeez that was fast, Thank you for the quick reply. I have a small kit from sparrows that came with the handles dipped and I really like how comfortable they are. I just needed that extra assurance that it's not the tools that aren't working, it's me.
Travis Pachal For Sparrow's thinner .015" picks I don't like the flexibility of the handles and the dip doesn't stiffen them up much. I prefer a double layer of shrink tubing. Of course you may prefer the dip or fashion you own handles. There are lots of videos out there on how to make handles out of other materials without needing a wood shop.
The double layer of shrink tubing doesn't affect how the pins talk to you? I played with some cheap picks from China at first, they were plain metal. Even though they were flimsy; when I got that 'Pin meets the sheerline click, I felt it.
I would suggest the dip. I bought some from the just a few weeks ago and after diving into learning how to pick, I tell you my fingers were sore. If I were to do it again, I'd get the dipped.
Canadian here looking for a padlock to use on a school/work locker. Looking for the following features: Shim Proof, Bypass proof, 5+ pins, 1 security pin minimum, low cost (20CAD)
Such a small mod but it seemed to make that lock pretty tough. You need to clean up all the end burrs on your followers, then stop beating on things with them. ;)
You are right, I tend to grab the first thing on the bench when there's some beating that needs to be done... These poor, soft brass followers are in the exact wrong place on my bench...
You just did. Watching videos is a good start, as well as taking the FREE lock picking course on the website, located here: lock-lab.com/locklab-university/lock-picking-course-2/
zxana that’s an interesting idea. I’d love to find some neodymium magnets small enough to test that theory.... even though I’ve never given test locks a try, or even trying picking at all.
Some small N52 grade would work well. Populate one cylinder of the bible with a rod shaped magnet, glued. And its counterpart, smaller, glued just inside the core. That would really mess with feedback, and if the picks are magnetic, could plague picking.
so my only question being why couldnt you just put the key & lock pins downward and unlock the lock as usual? if the steel rod is already out of the way why the need for the extra steps
The trick is in number 3. If you just put the lock facing down, the key pin on that chamber (no spring) falls down more than it should getting into the shear line. That's why you first need to get the false set which holds that pin at the shear line level.
Please Bill could you send me your 3best picks and best tentioner love the show and I'll send you the worst lock iv bought in Ireland I've a lock so bad that you can stick any pick in to the key way with no tentioner just on its on its own put the lock on top of the lock an jiggle it around and it opens I just can't train on stuff like that I'll have to go looking for diffrent types love the show your skills a nollege are unreal
You have the ears of a BAT! I couldn't figure out what you were talking about until I listened with my headphones & volume pretty high. The microphone I use is a Yeti Blue Pro, and it appears it is more sensitive than I gave it credit for. The noise in the background is I-495 road traffic, which is located about 1/2 mile away. Also, you can barely hear a passing jetliner at 3:48. Also a passing car at 5:07, 6:27, & 7:44, and a crow cawing at 12:36, etc. I'll try turning down the microphone's gain a little to see if that helps. Remember tho, I'm working out of my garage.... not a sound booth. Removing all of the neighborhood sounds will probably not be possible.
I'm guessing that isn't what was meant... This audio issue has been mentioned on several of your recent videos, and has only been a recent thing. Older videos (with the same mic) didn't have this problem. It's a kind of high-pitched scritchy metallic sound that happens as you are talking, or just after. . Only thing I can think is that something inside the mic is vibrating, perhaps in response to certain frequencies, as it doesn't happen for everything you say. Or perhaps some kind of encoder artifact/problem? I usually listen with decent speakers, and the noise is only slightly noticeable. Today I'm on crappy laptop speakers, and their tinny sound makes this tinny sound in your audio much more apparent. The outdoor background noises aren't a problem at all. If you can't hear this sound, perhaps you could find someone local who can hear it, and try to investigate with them, or if not, perhaps you could record some test audio and upload the raw wav files or whatever somewhere so "we" can listen. Trying a different mic should confirm whether it's really the mic, and if it can be heard in unprocessed audio files, it can't be an encoding issue. But this video is now 2 weeks old, so you may have solved it by now.
Nice job Jakob! Nice to see that there doesn't always have to be some crazy alien tech to make a tough little lock. Thanks for the video bill, and nice picking!
For a simple pinned lock, it gave the most challenge that you have had in a while.
Strangely simple but somehow was a tricky pick.🤔
Nice 2-pin strategy there! 3 & 5 ... I guess that if you just try to pick pins-down that pinset 3 would keep it from opening ... opposite for chamber 5 ... however you were able to pick the piece of wire up above the shear line.
Thanks for sharing this fun lock!
Very nice job my friend.
I love the uber close ups. I can really see the lock move
I love picking padlocks!
So yeah, the idea is that you have to turn the lock or reach really high. Also, you missed a small pice of steel also in chamber 3 that keeps the key-pin in the sheer-line if you try to pick the lock with pins down.
The steel pice is a cut off nail..
I never saw it and it didn't come out when I hit the bible on the block. I'll take another close look when I hit the lab later this morning.
It was just a small cube, about 1mm big, so could get lost easilly.
Good pick great as all ways fun to watch
i would love to see the gate keeper being the only pin that is needed to open(1 pin) but then put all the trick pins in.
That was a tricky one
I have one of those 83AL/45 with a very odd seven pin core that i have never seen online
here we go, suprice lock :D

The dip is some kind of hard rubber that doesn’t seem to dampen feedback for me.

Get an Anchor padlock 👍🏻
did U ever find a padlock that cheap that suits your standards?
that was interesting

Awesome pick bb have a question what's the best way to get active in the lock sport community?

bosnianbill thanks bill
Could you please review the Multipick pocketpick?
You mean THIS one? ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=VQ-5S_o77Mw
bosnianbill well just found your channel and hadn‘t seen it thanks
When he says he has counter rotation, how is he able to tell? Does it turn the tension bar backward? Also what does counter rotation indicate?
Here ya go: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=3_MbfYoGzyg
Thanks
That was a really tricky one! Unexpected modification.
anyone thought of putting opposing magnets into their chambers to give a resistive force to the spring and make it harder to set spp style?
zxana that’s an interesting idea. I’d love to find some neodymium magnets small enough to test that theory.... even though I’ve never given test locks a try, or even trying picking at all.

There are some.door locks out there that use magnets.
But I have not seen them used the way you described it
I thought the new rule was 3 tries Mr Bosnian Bill ?
It IS, but I filmed that a few days prior to publishing it. Future attempts will be limited to 3 x 10 minutes each.
... wait, wait, wait,,, does this qualify as a working key??? in what world can you flip over a lock to open it?? Oh, right... a pad lock.
It says in the first note that you should remember that it is a padlock, and I got a padlock for this very reason.
Yep, I get it. Neat trick.

I missed the lack of spring in #3 makes more sense now
The pins in chamber 3 without a spring might block that.
Chamber 3 will indeed prevent you from opening the lock with the pins facing down.
Did you actually open the lock? Not just pick it but then open it? Because if not it’s way tougher than it looked.
What is wrong with the audio? There is a kind of scratching noise when you speak. Really annoying, since this is not the first video with this noise.

Although I just thought it were birds until.you pointed out that you can only hear it when Bill speaks
First
Yep, he was first to comment. Probably his only accomplishment in life. Too bad he doesn't have anything else to add humanity.
I don't really care about being first.
I just do it to piss off those that do care.
