BMW M5 - Going cheap on PARTS - GOOD or BAD idea ? Kingtec review

  • In the process of rebuilding another S63 engine (this time from a F10 M5) I received some much expected parts the car's owner bought ! A set of Kingtec Racing Forged rods and Forged Pistons.
    In this video I am doing an Unboxing of the parts, as well as comparing them with the original BMW pistons and rods.
    I was surprised when trying to find information about Kingtec Racing online, and wasn't successful finding nether good or bad experiences so here we are with an initial video .
    Check our channel for more videos on BMW F10 M5 twin turbo V8 S63B44 - As you probably know this engine shares the same block with the N63 BMW engine.
    ##UPDATE - May 2024 I apologise for not having an update on this video as many of you guys are asking but I can guarantee a new video is on the way. Unfortunately the car owner had some issues and was unable to buy the remaining parts for us to rebuild his engine - Those parts are coming in now and we have his engine back on the stand - Fingers crossed and we should have an update video in a month or two once the car is running. Thank you for the understanding ! 👍

    Yes, these pistons will force YOU to balance the crankshaft. Because the weight of the standard connecting rod-piston components differs from the weight of the Taiwanese ones. Crankshaft balancing is MANDATORY.

      I think for exhausts, charge coolers & intake kits then going this route is a none issue . But proper engine components are a tricky one. No doubt they are better than stock, but I don't know how confident you could be when you start to lean on them which it sounds like the owner may do .

    Nice video , looking forward to the next essential one. I've read some positive stuff about a guy with an M3 E92 who replaced his rod bearings with a custom set of "ACL Trimetal" and he stated that these basically "solve" the rod bearing issue. Another thing - what would you recommend if I'm replacing the rod bearings on a S63 should I replace the main bearings as well ?

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects  8 месяцев назад +2

      You’re absolutely right ! Rod and main bearings are preventive maintenance in some of these high power BMW engines and in fact that’s what made me start this Channel in first place. I’ve done the rod bearings on my v10 M5 in 2019, along with an extensive service and the car has been running good ever since. I’m using ACL race series for rod bearings and King for main bearings - most of the engines I’ve done had relatively good main bearings but I rather spend the extra $250 and have the peace of mind the mains were done as well unless the car has less than 60-80k kms
