Paul McCartney acknowledged that the entire latter half of Hey Jude was one of George's compositions that he just played around with but hadn't used it in a song. George gave the chord progression to Paul as a gift. Happy to be a new subscriber.
Ronald J: Oh, I'm not sure that he's all that underrated, not among real musicians, anyway: every serious guitarist, from Jeff Beck to Prince, have all noted Harrison's sophisticated melodicism. And his bottleneck slide guitar playing, uncannily wedding Elmore James, Ravi Shankar, African-American R&B and Jazz (those chord tones and diminished scales!) with Indian Classicisms, is simply jaw-dropping in its beauty. Oh, Harrison wrote amazing, world-reorienting songs with that little band of his, what were they called, "The Beatles?" and penned not a few blockbuster hits in his Own Write. But his guitar playing remains just uncanny and sublime.
Honestly contender for my favourite all round Beatles tracks. The layering of it is fantastic, he used more than one drummer. I’m sure it was three but I could be wrong. George man! The fabbest of the four in my opinion. Great videos by the way
Good instincts @Harri. George had this beauty ready in 1969. It could have gone on either Abbey Road or Let it Be but was rejected by John, Paul and George M. But George had the last laugh when it went on this incredible solo album instead, which went platinum many times over - with all the credit and royalties his to keep. Truly amazing song!
I have been enthralled with this magical album since it came out. This is one of the gems. And that's George Harrison on the very distinctive and wonderful slide guitar.
What a SHOCK to the System it was to hear this MASTERPIECE of an Album the very first time. George was always my favorite, from the beginning. The songs he sang were always the ones I loved the most... Do you want to know a secret, Shes got The Devil in her heart...I was 6 yrs old, my Mom sang it with me 😊❤ Let's not forget Billy Preston, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Ringo & The late Great Alan White of ..YES Thanks Harri.
George wanted his guitar answering each line of Hey Jude, but Paul did not allow it. Feels like George saying: So Paul, this it what you could have had! I myself cannot decide which Song I Love more. Both are awesome!
George Harrison was/is/had everything. His Spirit just sparkled. I am so grateful he walked this planet during a time he could be recorded and filmed. Watching him overwhelms me. Thanks for this, Harri! ❤️🔥🇨🇦
Katherine Bosse, I know what you mean. I'm sure you've seen it but there's a particular picture of George, hair very long, mustache and beard (very Jesus like), solemnly looking into the camera. When I look into those eye's, I feel like I'm looking into divine eternity. His soul just kinda grabs you.
This song is one of my musical weaknesses; cannot listen to the tune and lyrics without tears welling up. There! One just now rolled down my right cheek!
The slide guitar in the Concert for George all songs is beautifully played by Marc Mann, not Clapton!! He is more than a great guitarist, if you have the concert video then Mark is the guy in the black flat cap.
George didn't always get the same amount of credit as Paul McCartney or John Lennon when he was with the Beatles, but George was just as talented a musician and this song is proof of that!
George deserved so many writer's credits to Lennon-McCartney songs for his guitar intros, solos as well as his many lyrical contributions. Notably And I Love Her (guitar intro and solo), Eleanor Rigby lyrics (that many also contributed to, even though Paul claims he wrote them)......and so many more.
Such a wonderful song from George. George had written this song 4 years before it was finally produced. Some say it was about The Beatles, some about Patti Boyd, and others just say it's about human beings in general. The orchestral beauty is so captivating. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and JKClare for a sensational song by George. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Everyone wants to have their own Sgt Pepper's, and George had his with this beautiful album. I have loved it since I heard it for the first time back in 1970. Love you, George.
A really beautiful song with lyrics to ponder upon. Like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", George notes our weakness in loving our fellow man/woman. Both of these songs always challenged me to check my selfishness and remember to live each day with compassion towards others to the best of my ability. Harri, you're the best. I enjoy watching you enjoy a song. You would exemplify what the hippie movement was at it's best.
The Beatles did a run-through of this on Jan 26th, 1969, during the Get Back Sessions. Apparently, according to Beatles' expert Mark Lewisohn, George had this for the Revolver sessions in '66.
This song always gave me goosebumps and I cried when they played it on the radio after he passed away. The sentiments are so touching. In my opinion a much better tune than My Sweet Lord.
A bigger response if it had been on a Beatles album? I don't know about that. This album was #1 for a long time. And really established George as a solo artist.
Finally a reactor who has done this beautiful song. Such a sentiment with the thoughtful lyrics and tasteful music. My favorite of his and that says a lot.
I'm a george girl who would love for more of his songs to get reactions especially from fans like you! crackerbox palace is an amazing and underated George song.
Maybe John and Paul did George a favor rejecting fabulous songs like this on Beatles' albums because it set the stage for George to release the best post Beatles album, All Things Must Pass. George was always an afterthought as a songwriter with the Beatles, but he created some of their greatest masterpieces.
Such a beautiful song! I actually learned to play this on the guitar. It was one of a handful of songs that was slow enough for my terrible chord changing skills 😂. I love the unique sound of Harrison’s guitar. Great request J. K. 🌺✌️
That is one great song. I always loved it. I played it to death when it came out. It was almost exactly like 'Hey Jude" melody wise at the end but that's okay. I'm sure Paul and John didn't care. Always liked George's guitar playing. Kind of soothing. The song puts you in a trance. 🙂
Great selection and reaction. Kudos to both of you! I can't believe that this had not been posted before since it is a Harrison classic. This came out as a double album, if I recall correctly. Excellent writing and performance by George. 👋
Not sure if full album reviews are in your future Harri but the classic live Concert for Bangladesh would really leave its mark on your consiousness. Any track off it with all the guest stars is brilliant. Landmark benifit concert by Mr. Harrison set the tone for many others that followed.
This would've been a Beatles song if they had stayed together. In the Anthology series you can hear them working on the song in those last days. I've been a fan of The Beatles my whole life. I was 8 in 1964 when they came to America, and 15 when they broke up.
Na na na ..na na na ..isn't it a Pity! ..it's George winking at the break up. Brilliant!...I be noticed you've reacted to the concert for George..please react to this song..Eric Clapton and Billy Preston take the lead..Dahni Harrison and Jeff Lynne provide the rhyhm guitars.. three drummers..Anton Fig, Max Weinberg from E Street and and Ringo..Paul McCartney on piano...the Hey Jude part comes out at end and one of Clapton's best solos ever!
Check out All things must pass. One of the most beautiful and peaceful songs you could listen to The album all things must pass is more or less the songs George had brewing near the End of the Beatles.
Love the barely perceptible vocals in the background in the last half; they become more pronounced toward the very end. Fills out the structure of the song in a strong yet melodic manner.
This was on George's solo album which was the first post-Beatles album any of them released. He had years' worth of material because Lennon and McCartney usually limited George to one song per album. So he released this triple-LP album and blew everyone away with how much his talent had been suppressed by his being a great songwriter competing against TWO great songwriters.
@HarriBest Reactions - all the musicians/singers on this track alone are : (Wiki entry) An anthemic ballad and one of Harrison's most celebrated compositions, "Isn't It a Pity" has been described as the emotional and musical centrepiece of All Things Must Pass[1] and "a poignant reflection on The Beatles' coarse ending".[2] Co-produced by Phil Spector, the recording employs multiple keyboard players, rhythm guitarists and percussionists, as well as orchestral and choral arrangements by John Barham. The track also serves as a showcase for Harrison's slide guitar playing, a technique he introduced with All Things Must Pass. In its long fadeout, the song references the closing refrain of the Beatles' 1968 hit "Hey Jude". Other musicians on the recording include Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Gary Wright and the band Badfinger, while the reprise version features Eric Clapton on lead guitar.
Another song to rock muse number one - Pattie Boyd. Harrisons Something and Isn't it a pity. Claptons Layla, Bell Bottom Blues, Beautiful Tonight and maybe more -

This actually WAS half of the Beatles. That's Ringo on the drums.
When they performed the song at memorial concert for Harrison', you can hear them singing "Nah-nah-nah-Nah-nah-nah-nah!" as the song winds down.
Hermosa cancion❤
Ringo Starr is on drums on this one.
1/2 of The Beatles is better than no Beatles at all.
Isn't a pity was written in 1966, long before Hey Jude.
Paul McCartney acknowledged that the entire latter half of Hey Jude was one of George's compositions that he just played around with but hadn't used it in a song. George gave the chord progression to Paul as a gift.
Happy to be a new subscriber.
Isn't it a pity that Paul didn't give George his rightful writer's credit on Hey Jude?
George has such an incredibly unique guitar style. His riffs are immediately recognizable. I'm not sure he gets enough credit for that.
He doesn't, SADLY
I couldn’t agree more! I also love that very distinctive sound he brought from his guitar.
Indeed his slide is instantly recognizable. "Give Me Love" is a great example

You should listen to the Concert for George version, sang by Eric Clapton and the late and great Billy Preston.
Plus George's son DHANI playing guitar and singing back up
Concert for George is a Must!
Yes. Definitely..
That performance and in fact the whole concert is an incredible tribute to George - so much love poured out to him
