Great tournament report! Love the detail, especially the conversion corners! I would say about the double 1 courage, that it should always be a fresh roll. Accidental rolls are bound to happen, but surely you could 'accidentally' roll a courage test to see what the result is, and then you can base your next decision on that. I think it was a bit cheeky of the opponent to say you should use the double 1s, but well done for being a good sport about it and having the moral high ground!
Awsome tournament report I was really engaged in your descriptions of the games it felt like watching a sped up live battle report. Personally I always say that your rolls don’t count unless you declare what you are rolling for or else you can just roll a courage check and determine who was taking it afterwards based on the result. You rolled for Gil-Galads stand fast not for a terror check so I would have say that you should have taken your reroll
@@twotreesgaming Yeah I can total see why you would use that as your courage roll and typically I would do the same in a casual game or if the game wasn’t on the line.
Awesome reports! Thank you. Very cool to see everyone's army! As for your awkward dilemma. I think you did good taking the moral high ground, but it is indeed awkward. In my mind, you throw the dice for a specific purpose, reason. Once it's done, you take the result or don't and the "juju" is spent for that action, and you move on to the next roll/new result. That said, I 100% understand where your opponent was coming from, as having done things "correctly" that would have been the roll you had. Personally I would have done the same as you, and not wanted to bother making a situation more awkward. Or offer a roll off on a 1-3 4-6. I don't think I would have argued for a new roll, my juju thinking aside haha. Thanks again! Looking forward to more content.
Yeah I would agee with all that. Did know a guy who rolled the dice without saying what he was rolling for, if it was a good roll he would point at it and if is was poor would quietly ignore it.
Yeah I think if it hadn't have been the same model I wouldn't have even considered it but he did point out that Gil-Galad was a Hero of Legend to his credit so I deffo owed him one for that!
Great video. My son and I both enjoyed it a lot. We will be waiting for your future videos! As for the Sportsmanship... Well, you played it right and it sounds like your opponents were also there to have some great games instead of winning at all costs. Take backs and rules mistakes is such a grey area that its hard to know exactly what to do and when. I think it's evident that you three were solid gentlemen and that's way better than winning. I'm trying to teach my 11 year old this behavior! Role models!
Awesome and detailed tournament report, really happy to see other tourneys and people enjoying the game. I would have probably rolled again the terror dice at most, since lookign at rolls in hindsight it´s too much to ask, specially if that could define the match. Would you mind giving ut how the scores were given ( by victories, best x, etc) for the tournament or link me if you have the info from the official site, would be interesting to see how communities over the world do their tourneys. Congrats to you and brothers, cheers mate
Yeah, this is the scoring: 6 points Major Win (double the opponents VPs) 5 points Minor Win 2 points Draw 1 point Minor Loss 0 points Major Loss Then at the end each player gives out two "Best Game/Most Sporting" and two "Best Army/Painted" from the opponents you've faced. These are worth 3 points each. You can give a Best Game and a Best Army to the same person. Tied tournament scores at the end are resolved by "Secret Objectives" which are in the Matched Play Guide. But basically you have an extra mini-mission like "kill the most models with rangred weapons this game". I managed to get 4 of these from 5 which got me second instead of third! It's a really good format for hobbyists rather than competitive players. You can win them all and finish mid table or, in Aaron's case, go from 46th to 8th with some good votes.
I've only just caught this video - fantastic recap. Had no idea Aaron had two opponents, myself included, who got a peak at his forces in combat before the event! Aaron made a great push to win the game. Cavalry was really the only difference and the Dwarves were suitably heroic. The game is a fond memory from the event, hopefully play any of you in the future gents. And thanks for kind words for the army! Greatly appreciated.
Thanks! We were completely not expecting it, so glad I filmed the bit at the start when I say "one of us will finish top ten" - Louis' face behind me is priceless.

Great Tournament report, was really good how you explained what happened in each game. It was very clever how you showed us what models you used for conversions. I am gutted you won't have any videos out for a few months, even if you do a small bat rep (300 or 500 pts) or a guide on how to convert some of the models which you have done, would be amazing to see. Could you do a video on what armies placed 1st-10th in the tournament, so we can see if there is a theme on the current best armies.... Congrats on the 2nd, 6th and 8th position. Can't wait to see where this channel goes, I am a big fan.
Thanks very much! I don't actually have access to the armies that finished in the top ten and with the way the points system works it wouldn't really show a "meta". What I will say is - credit to the game designers - there was an awful lot of different armies near the top tables (Iron Hills, Rangers of the North, Angmar, myself). I'll be at the Grand Tournament in Warhammer World this February but real life is already looking busy for the New Year so it may be a big content drop late Spring. Sorry to disappoint - but I'll make sure it's worth the wait!
Came here after seeing the GT report on FB. Both where great tournament reports. Wonderfully clear, and not overally long winded but enough detail to understand what was going on. Would it be possible to include the points level somewhere in the description of these event reports, these armies seemed big (no need to include individual model costs etc, just the overall points cost). Regarding the double 1 courage test, you probably did the right thing. Sometimes it's just easier to take that route than have somethin devolve into argument. However that being said I believe it should have been a seperate roll. Your intent was to roll it for courage, it was then pointed out that you didn't need to. To me that is a reset and roll a new set of dice for a new thing. Also where is this tactics video? Couldn't find it on the channel and I want to watch it now XD
Thanks for watching! Points values and the way the tournament was actually scored was a big omission - still early days for the channel so feedback is very much appreciated. Also, there isn't a "tactics" video as such, more tactics segments in other videos. The one in the ad is from an Iron Hills vs Goblin Town game that will be out soon.
Brilliant video again, lads. Really promoting the hobby and what it is all about, would be a pleasure to play against any one of you. Keep up the good work!
Awesome report from the start. Couldn’t help noticing that gondor list is soo lacking in banners. My bets are against it, but great stuff anyway. We don’t get much quality editing here in mesbg draught.
Hope you enjoyed it!! It really is a great game. There were a couple of Smaugs, the one Aaron played finished 5th I think. It was very nicely painted which goes a long way for this tournament and then it's all down to the scenario you draw and how your opponents feel about playing it with a model like smaug.
@@twotreesgaming lol, understand that. Pulled out a Minor Victory vs the Balrog LL (still not sure how). We rolled Reconnoiter and I managed to leg 3 Grim Hammers off the table before he dropped me to 25% (or got any of his off the table)
Regarding Aaron's third game against the Assault upon Helm's Deep LL (at around 13:55): Do you or Aaron happen to remember what happened to the bombs after they rolled the dud result? As per a FAQ, the bombs should roll again next turn with a +1 modifier. The FAQ does leave it open whether the detonation must still be attempted or they just go off on their own though... Also it must have been rough for the Evil player as the bombs get to roll 2 dice in the LL. Four 1s for the detonations of two bombs? Ouch! 😅
@@twotreesgaming I get that, on one hand you have conviction that you’re right, on the other he just helped you out and let you off, so you don’t want to be seen as a bad sport
Hey mate! Great video. Just thought I’d help you out with the Ring issues you had. On page 90 in the rule book there is a priority table which shows who gets the one ring. You definitely should have had the ring in both games. No need to apologise because Isildur gets the ring before Bilbo. Go have a look and great work out there with a solid list.
Thank you! Yeah the Ring priority table says something along the lines of "If this person has the Ring, then this person doesn't" so if Isildur has it Bilbo can't have it. The issue is that on Isildurs profile (page 30 Armies of LOTR) it says "if your force does not contain Elendil then Isildur may carry the Ring". My force had Elendil and so Isildur didn't have the Ring which means technically the list in the ruebook is obsolete as Isildur doesn't have the Ring - so Bilbo does! Hope that's makes sense. It makes no thematic sense but the query was literally asked of the rules writer, hoping it will get FAQ'd.
Thanks - there most definitely is! Just desperately trying to find time to film and edit but I'm hoping in a couple of months there'll be a steady stream of content for a little while. 😁
Congrats on the great performances and conversions the armies look brill! Is this tournament an annual thing? Just got into MESBG be good to have a tournament like this lined up as an end goal to aim for!
Yeah there's lots of regular tournaments all over the UK but Warhammer World does 3 or 4 a year and Throne of Skulls is always first weekend in December. It's really fun and themey and perfect for a new player- very hard to get tickets though!
Cheers mate il keep a look out for tournaments then! What you got planned next for the channel? As a fellow Last Alliance Player it would be great to see some Second Age games/campaign. Fingers crossed GW get round to doing a supplement based on 2nd age stuff
It's actually not a LL which is why no one takes it! Hopefully we'll get one soon. This video has some really good info in it: ruclips.net/video/c2EHaA44CRw/видео.html
@twotreesgaming2426 ah ok, so is it just combining rohan and minas tirith? Would you still get the army bonuses? Pretty desperate to have some siege gear haha
Yep! Both army bonuses as long as Eorl is the only named hero. Louis loves siege gear and that guided his army. But something we've only learned recently (after two tourneys!) is that Bolt Throwers have three crew, not two, thanks to an FAQ so they're even better!
Im still new to MESBG, so the ally list hasnt come into play much. How come having only the one named hero grants the bonuses? Is it just because itd be OP otherwise?
No it's just for theme- Eorl was alive at a time most of the other names heroes were dead so for theme you can't take any other names heroes and keep the army bonuses, think it's in his profile. And the army bonuses for Minas Tirith and Rohan are pretty good so it's worth trying to keep them. +1 Strength on a charge from the Eorl is deadly!
Isnt really anything in the rules regarding what happens if you make a roll that you shouldnt? If I was you I would do the same and accept the double 1 as a result for my next test, as if it was not for my own mistake thats the result I would have. Especially after my opponent pointed out my own mistake saving one of my key models from fleeing.
Yeah there isn't an explicit ruling on it I don't think except for "the most important rule", which is basically "remember it's toy soldiers and be a nice person" and it really is the most important! :)
The tragedy is, that your double one wouldn’t have failed you - you should have got two might back for the killing of Bilbo because of the contest of champions special rule. Reminding someone of the rules is always the correct thing to do. It’s hard to say how I’d react to the courage check thing - if there was very little time between the two rolls it would seem fair to me to keep that first roll but definitely a tricky one!
This is very true! I think remembering the rules might be my biggest failing in most games tbh 😅 And to be fair, he was a stellar opponent so I had no issues taking the previous roll but it's definitely a grey area!
Great work! Not sure how I feel about the courage roll counting for the next roll, as what's to stop you rolling sixes on the side and saving them up, using that logic. Personally, I'd say the double 1 is a void roll, and move on with the game, taking a new roll for the courage check. Either way, great gameplay from you, and a great army.
Great tournament report! Love the detail, especially the conversion corners!

Yeah there isn't an explicit ruling on it I don't think except for "the most important rule", which is basically "remember it's toy soldiers and be a nice person" and it really is the most important! :)
A it's the Tree fellas!
Tree? I am no tree. I am a RUclipsr. 🌲🧔♀️
I think remembering the rules might be my biggest failing in most games tbh 😅
And to be fair, he was a stellar opponent so I had no issues taking the previous roll but it's definitely a grey area!
amazing
Thanks!!
well done
Thanks!
Thanks and thanks again! :) If I hadn't just been bailed out or was using a different model it definitely would have gone differently I think.

Thank you!
