I pulled apart a front loader last year. I was surprised to see some really heavy concrete weights fixed to the tub. A couple of big ones at the rear and a couple on top. They must be there to keep everything stable as it spins. I think no such thing in top loaders.
Surprisingly yes with the force on that part. If you do it and it breaks, you can do it again and use filler plastic of the same type (code). It's ideal to use as much filler plastic as possible and the metal inside helps if it has an irregular shape. Think of it like reinforced concrete.
