one of the worst parts about this case, other than the brutal murder of course, is how much the investigation was hampered by trying to draw connections to buffalo bill, so many connections were made by grasping at straws to appeal to the press and its sickening the depth at which it could have entirely crippled any actual investigative work.
Connections to a fictional character? Stands up to scrutiny....

I remember the Vladimir case, iirc Vladimir visited his grandfather while wearing his fathers face skin and clothes, and bc of the grandfathers bad eye sight, he thought it was the father and they had a whole conversation.

Common misconception is that when you file a missing persons report you have to wait 24 hours. That is not true whenever someone like a friend or a family member does go missing you are actually encouraged to file a missing persons report as soon as possible not wait for 24 hours.
Yep, the initial 24 hours are critical when it comes to a missing persons case. After this period, the chances of finding them well/alive drops significantly
It used to be you had to wait 24 hours. This was most common in the United States up until I think maybe the 1960s.
Sadly in the US if you’re a young adult or teenager and your family reports you as missing, the officers will dismiss you and insist “they’re 18, they probably just ran away” or something of that nature. :( they’ll make you wait to file a report just in case your kid comes back.
@@justiny.1352 The reasons why you are encouraged is because the first 24 hours are critical the longer you wait the less likely that someone who has been reported missing is going to survive an already dangerous situation. Another thing to know that it goes against the law and regulations for police to delay you from filing a missing persons report there are already laws and regulations that are in place to keep police from delaying you when filing a missing persons report. If what you say is indeed true then it is a very serious matter that will require a federal level investigation because they should not be doing so and it puts the trust in the police under immense question.

Im Polish and this case has always haunted me, I am pretty sure I watched every Polish and English documentary about it - but I gotta give it to you Maverick Files, as prolly you are one of few English documentary narrators that not only described it in such great way and presented it with care, but also properly pronounced quite difficult Polish words, names and surnames. I really appreciate that because often times people tend to not attempt that so kudos :)
I'm American and I only speak English but I still love when they pronounce foreign names/words as close to accurate as they can. It makes me cringe to hear names said with not even a hint of effort toward accuracy lol

He scalped his father and pulled his face from his skull and was found wearing it, allegedly. Immediately looked up this videos case while I'm watching it and that was one of the first things I found in an article.

The ending sequence was written in a way that made me wait for some kind of plot twist...that never came. I had to check to see if the credits were indeed already rolling bc i was SO convinced this whole 'you are xyz and your friend wrote a letter to the police' thing would be a red herring. Very anticlimactic.
i hate so much that almost every time there's a murder case where a woman is disfigured/skinned the people investigating immediately think the murderer MUST be a man who wants to be a woman - it villainizes trans women so much, especially when there is literally no record of a murderer wearing a woman's skin because they want to be a woman in their everyday life; the vast majority of the time it's a fetish, or a twisted way to preserve that person, instead of a true desire to be another gender
