the interplay between the two was great... they started as enemies then became allies but distrusted each other then close close friends... it was beautiful to watch looking back... and totally unexpected....
The whole B5 cast and production team did an amazing job, but these two were always my favorites. Such great characters and acting, and costume and makeup!
My father had a terminal illness and had tried to watch b5 before but said it wasn't for him , so as he slowly got worse and with nothing to do he watched it from the start . When I went to visit him he started raving on about it and how a arc in season 1 made sense in season 3 . I remember that evening discussing B5 and how his eye's glittered and how this show breathed life back into him for a while . This show is now being hailed as game of thrones in space and now we have the expanse which is just as character rich with great writing . It's so sad to hear about mira furlan so RIP MIRA FURLAN may the universe sing your song
I sobbed my eyes out when my brother called me at work and told me. For me, Andreas Katsulas is to acting what John Lennon was to music. I was devastated.
Andreas was to acting what John Lennon was to music. That's actually a REALLY good comparison. As good as he was in everything that he did, his best work was on Babylon 5. His performances as G'Kar are truly stunning - absolutely moving. He was one of the all time greats.
Someone once commented to me (after I'd turned them on to B5) that this story could have been put anywhere in history, because it was the characters and plot that drove this show. It could have been set in the Old American West and it would have done well. The cast was superb, but Mr. Katsulas and Mr. Jurasik were supreme. G'Kar was a wonderful character, and Mr. Katsulas delivered each line with feeling and a twinkle of whimsy. He was a class act, a joy to watch, and he will be missed.
Andreas on Babylon 5 was one of the first actors to make me realise what a skill acting can be when done at it's finest. Along with Mira and Peter et al it shows that when something is done right, it draws you in, makes you believe the unbelievable and above all else it makes you care about each and everyone of these characters.
On B5 they had something most shows don't. They were all not being paid shal we say.. "paramount money" with each episode only having 40% of the budget of an episode of Deep Space 9 for example, and so were more on pay packets you'd find in the upper middle classes, they could have walked and got more $ elsewhere. But what they had, was a love for the show and each other, and a vocation to doing it justice. No amount of money can buy that.
Back in 2001, I bought a limited edition of a statue of G'Kar's face. I finally convinced my wife to watch B5. She usually doesn't like most of the shows I'm watching, even less Sci-fi related. She did, to my surprise, enjoyed the show and has watched 4 seasons in less than a week. Lately, she told me I could display the statue in our place. I thought she was kidding so I told her we could do it during the halloween time. She said "nah, Halloween is too far away , let's do it now".Tks JohnS1999!
It breaks my heart to think about how many of the Babylon 5 family have passed on. Not just the main cast (Andreas, Richard, Michael and Jeff), but the supporting cast/guest stars as well. Tim Choate, Robin Sachs, Paul Winfield, Turhan Bey, Tony Steedman... the list goes on and on. Whenever I watch the show, I can't help but think of all the people on the screen before me that we've lost.
...and most recently, we lost Stephen Furst. We as an audience, were fortunate to have all these "Gifted" people give a memorable performance that we will cherish. Thanks to all of them for making B5 an EXTRAORDINARY show!!!!!
Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas work in B5 ranks among the best work by actors in all of tv and film. Whether talking Sci-Fi and including Shatner/Nimoy/Kelley or acting in general Matthau/Lemmon, others....these two were gold together!
It's seldom seen when an actor can convey a character through that level of prosthetic and make up yet Andreas not only achieved this with one character but with two. A genuinely sad loss.
What a great show Babylon 5 was, my late father hated Sci-fi shows but loved watching Babylon 5 because it had such a fantastic story and was so well written.
It's Amazing how much has come out about Star trek originally starting DS-9 to rip it off and stop B5. JMS 1st went to paramount with the Idea and gave them a copy of the shows Bible and outline. He talks about it. He could have sued them and won but no B5.
Wonderful to see this, and to know how Peter felt about Andreas. I loved him and loved G'Kar and both of them should have had Emmy awards. They were magnificent.
No matter whether it was his work on Star Trek or on Babylon 5, Andreas Katsulas was & always will be a true television & movie icon! Gone far too soon, I think! R.I.P. Andreas Katsulas a.k.a. G'Kar, ambassador of the Narn Homeworld!
So many are gone, it's true. I found out about Richard Biggs' death in a grocery store checkout line (on the cover of Soap Opera Digest). But they left the rest of us something truly glorious!

Thank you so, so much for posting this. I was there (right in the front; that's probably my head in your shots), and the reading was a bit emotional for me, so I wasn't really hearing it critically. It was wonderful to be able to revisit it and listen to exactly what Peter said about Andreas.
what a wonderful statement about Andreas. Peter did not have to do this which tells you the respect he had for him and hopefully the respect returned to him as well. Sounds like the respect was returned.
"wEre in HerE" The lift, these two... in the lift. One of the funniest dark humoured scenes I have ever seen in my entire 40 years. I miss them both, rest easy Andreas, and may you have a long enjoyable life Peter.
@CCB5er34 As actors and their respective characters they complemented each other beautifully. Kind of like the chemistry between Spock and McCoy, on a different level and just as strong.
Yeah, the two most powerful and compelling characters in Babylon 5 were from Andreas Katsuals and Peter Jurasik. They had the rare ability to make the audience powerfully feel their doubt, pain and conflict.
I loved both these characters, it's a shame the show ended but I'm glad it had a proper run to get its story out. He will be missed. Stay healthy Peter
I love the scene where they're both trapped in the elevator awaiting rescue: Season 3, Episode 2 - Convictions. Rescuer: Hey, we got two more! G'Kar: Ahhh! Londo (chuckling): There, you see. I'm going to live. G'Kar: So it would seem. Well, it is an imperfect universe. Londo: Bastard. G'Kar: Monster. Londo: Fanatic. G'Kar: Murderer. Londo: You are insane! G'Kar: And that is why we'll win. Londo: 'Go and be an ambassador to Babylon 5.', they say. 'It will be an easy assignment.' Ughh. I hate my life. G'Kar: So do I. Londo: Shut up!
I know, I found out a few years after he died. Ironically my friend got me hooked on Babylon way after the show's been aired. When I looked up info about Andreas, I was shocked and saddened to find that he had passed away in 2006. He not only did great in Babylon 5, I loved his performance in the movie "The Fugitive" and his performance with a small role that he played in the movie "Communion" with Christopher Walken. I know that he's done a lot more work than that. I've been meaning to look up what other movies I could check out that have him in it. He was a very distinctive actor. That's what made him act out the role of G'Kar so perfectly.
I'm hearing impaired, wish this had subtitles because I can't understand anything being said here and, I so badly want to know what he had to say about him. Can't even access auto-generated subtitles. :( RIP Andreas Katsulas, I loved the passion you put into your acting, especially as G'Kar. Your acting brought me to tears so often as you just believed the pain and struggles of his character through exceptional acting.

@TheHarzach There were many, many excellent things about B5. I understand you are attempting to portray just how profound you found that dynamic, but are you seriously going to say that it was the *only* reason you stayed?
I think if we could hear what Andreas/Gkar might say I think it would be something like this. I know what ya mean he did get across the Narn point of view so you could understand the character more
Well, they did a good job with the prosthetics, I think theres a reason the area around they eyes was designed that way.
