A BEAUTIFUL NARROWBOAT JOURNEY on the STUNNING Stratford upon Avon Canal Ep.179

- We leave the Grand Union Canal and head down the beautiful Stratford upon Avon Canal ending up at the lovely village of Lowsenford. An akward moment as we set off and a boat appears behind us...who goes next down the locks? Cruising on the Stratford Canal to Lowsenford.
Listen to the birdsong and admire the English countryside as we travel in silence on an electric propulsion narrowboat. Travelling on the Grand Union Canal on an electric propulsion narrowboat, armed with lithium batteries and an electric motor from Vetus and almost 2 kw of solar, will our new Narrowboat make it through the amazing Braunston tunnel and Down the locks past the Admiral Nelson Pub. We seatch for a mooring on this busy canal and head to the pub for a few drinks, walking back along the canal at night to our cosy narrowboat home, just perfect.
Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. We can't wait to share our new adventures with you.

Yikes, that turn onto the Stratford-Upon-Avon canal is brutal, especially with boats moored on both sides. Looks like a lovely canal once you’ve managed to get onto it, and you had such a beautiful day for it.

Hi Paul, Anthony and Dexter-Dog. What a beautiful cruise again this week. Missing Anthony of course. Good to see Paul and Dexter. I liked Dexter's toy at the start of the Vlog. Does he play with much with his toys, considering that he is a senior citizen? Well done Paul on that sharp turn into the Stratford Canal. Very well executed. That piece of Tea loaf looked Yummy. I agree with you Paul about the cute bridges. It's good about having certain protocols on the canal, as long as other people are aware of them too. The boat that suddenly appeared behind you, must have know there was a 2 boat convoy in front of them. Still all turned out well. An excellent Video and well edited. Thank you very much. Spoolbox.
Hey Spoolbox. I was gutted to miss such a beautiful stretch. He doesn’t play much with toys anymore. We still have one that he had when he was younger and he used to carry it to bed with him. ❤definitely is an etiquette on the canal but like you said, no good if others don’t know. It still seems like there's a feeling of autumn beginning. This summer was a bad one for heat. 🥵 That was a lovely cruise and the canal is very scenic. It was pretty crowded for mooring though. That was a beautiful cruise Paul and you did so well turning at bridge 37 (I was worried you were going to hit the left hand side) but I should have had more faith in you lol. Nice to see a bit of Dexter but sad that Anthony, you were at work and missed the lovely scenery. I liked the map at the begining a good idea to see where your going. I think you'll miss Pete and Caroline, especially Paul, not just for their help but for the eats n drinks passed whilst your on the move. @anthonysmith-storey9247 I'm told by boater friends over here the French canals are amazing. Most I believe are in the south of france but so many fab places to see, things to do, and eat out at. France isn't expensive to eat unless in Paris etc. Some English friends come over every year for the canals

Love watching your canal journeys. They look so peaceful and there is such beautiful countryside. I don’t know how you steer the narrow boat around those corners and narrow locks. I would panic but you take it all in your stride. Your new boat looks amazing.

What a lovely canal you're on right now, it is really beautiful. Nice to see Dexter looking so healthy.
I'm really enjoying the quieter engine, it is starting to annoy me when you pass another boat with a diesel engine and all the nice ambient sounds are drowned away by their engine. I love that sound of the water coming off the propeller, the sound of water is really soothing.
I'm also sorry you were a 30sec too early under the bridge there Paul to miss getting the train in your shot as I am a train nut myself and really enjoy the British trains.
Anyway you guys, and I include Pete and Caroline, you all keep well and safe. And much love to Dexter too.

Love the Stratford canal but our preferred hire fleet Kate Boats have relocated to Stockton from Warwick so it's the Hatton Flight first! If we go that way! Just love the split bridges xx

Rough week, my baby boy Jynx had to be put to sleep because of Kidney / bladder failure , probably caused by some cat treats /food. I only fed him really good, expensive vet advised food but every night before bed he had some treat or other. He was only 5 and we spent all our time together, he followed me everywhere and sat watching whatever I did.
My daughter, son and I got to spend some time with him and he didn’t seem sick at all and kept going to the door trying to get out so we could go home. He heard the vet tech explain how they would put him to sleep and he knew what she was saying, you could feel the panic rise in him and I held him as she started to put the medication into the IV port he started fighting to get loose. Then he relaxed and was gone in a minute, terrible, thing I never want to experience again, I’ll not get another cat now.
As I lost my two elderly cats over the last 5 years, one only about 6 months ago, it was easier to let go because they were older and in poor health but Jynx was only 5 and until the day he started crying in pain he’d always been healthy and loving, very playful too. Miss him so much, my daughters older dog has been staying very close to me , trying to keep me company.

How did they not get tangled-up if two horses were pulling two narrowboats in different directions on the same towpath? I have been binging your videos from number 1, I'm up to 99. Do you miss having two duck-hatches? The darkness wouldn’t seem to be as much of an issue with the skylights.

What's happened to the upkeep of the tow paths. My local canal Trent and Mersey only been cut twice this year. No fun for walkers and cyclists. Keep up the good work watched all 179 episodes.

With bow and stern thrusters, in theory do you even need a tiller anymore?
You probably could steer with just these but it would be very power hungry.
Saw Dexter's Kong Teddy , our dog had one when a puppy, still has it only it is earless, cos when she was little she'd chew anything sticking out on a toy. Now it looks like a Monkey 😂

How do you clear the bow and stern thrusters of weeds and garbage, or do you get anything. Is there an access hatch to clear them. Dexter has such a ruff life in retirement.
Hey Lloyd. You would have to physically get in the canal to clear the tubes. Thankfully, we haven’t had anything in them. Dexter really does have hard life 😂. Hope you have a lovely weekend ❤
