I applaud Obama for FINALLY saying what so many are thinking, but have no clout. He represented ALL Americans, not just his base. That's what a President is supposed to do which is why Donald Trump is a miserable failure in so so so many ways. Obama is quantifiably better in EVERY way. Even where Obama fails he's far better than how Trump fails in the same way.

Saagar's explanation in the midpoint of this video is exactly my feelings about the inevitability of a Trump-like figure. My worries about this started right after Obama beat Romney and the mainstream media for a few months (and probably longer) were talking about 'The Death of the Republican Party'. How do you expect a major political party and all of their constituents to react when you smugly declare that your side has all the right answers and that their party has no chance for years to come?
The Republican party leadership reacted by basically giving in and making their policies even more aligned with moderate Democrat orthodoxy, further blurring the difference between the two major parties. Then Trump comes in and boldly and unapologetically inserts himself in the conversation as the sole brave fighter for conservative values. He even beats up on that same Republican leadership for basically giving into the Democrats. How is that not going to appeal to a party and base that the mainstream pundits declared dead?
Trump is and always has been an opportunist. If there's a kernel of weakness in a situation he will relentlessly apply pressure to that weak point until the situation turns in his favor. This is why the mainstream media and the Democratic party can't get a handle on him. They spent years ignoring the exact blindspots that Trump exploits and every time they freak out about him those blindspots are put on display even more.
At first I was leary of Trump, why I didn't vote for him. I didn't vote for Hillary either as I've voted independent in the last two elections.(I voted for Obama the first time and had buyers remorse.) As I reflected and saw how and why Trump came to power. The media torn apart Mitt Romney, the most bland milquetoast person the republicans would offer up. I thought to myself, I'd probably fallen into the same trap Mitt did...he apollogized after the media started railing him. Republicans trying play nice would be continued to be eaten alive by the media for years if they stay on the script of bending to the whims of it.
Trump evolved to be like the perfect predator of the media. Like in nature if something becomes too abundant and powerful, something comes in to bring it into balance. If there was a creature covered in spikes with poison tip to keep anything from attacking...Trump is the alpha predator of the political landscape immune to poison to to kill them. That is why he exists. He is immune to everything they do. In fact it generally only makes him stronger. I don't think there's another republican alive who could gotten elected in 2016. I don't love everything Trump says, but I understand the methods to the madness at this point. That is why he wins and the media for all their hate only give him strength.

3. Approved a weekly extra-judicial (drone) Kill List (Terror Tuesday)
4. Continued USA tradition of regime change (e.g. Syria) and lied about it (moderate rebels?)
5. Covertly supported ISIS in syria (along with Saudi and Qatar)
6. Went along with Hillary's war on Libya (with UK and France)
7. Championed bad and unpopular trade agreements (e.g. TPP and TTIP) which vanished jobs in USA
8. Bailed out the bankers (not the people) during 2008 financial crisis.
9. Failed to punish any bankers after 2008 financial crisis
10. Promised “a new era of open government” then prosecuted a record 8 whistleblowers for espionage.
11. Expanded state surveillance by 64% according to the ACLU
12. Opened the Arctic to oil exploration & drilling (whenever Big Oil wanted)
13. Failed to close GITMO despite promising to do so.
14. Made the Bush-era tax cuts for the rich permanent.
15. Followed Citi-group bank advice on cabinet appointments.

Obama could have easily made a deal to increase the min wage with Republicans also. Look what happened when the Bush tax cuts expired. Most of them were renewed. Obama could have passed a revenue neutral tax reform also. He simply didn't put in the effort. And, I think it is nothing more than that.

@muttley hehehe ... This is such a common problem with liberals, especially young ones. You argue from a stance that you're morally superior and the enemy is inherently bad. You're not standing up to intolerance, you're denying the ability of half the country to put forward opinions or policy stances on the grounds that those stances and opinions are (as determined by yourself) wrong and therefore not worthy of merit or consideration.
You have a lot of opinions and ideas and they may seem like the right ones to you and are reinforced by the groups you spend time with, which is the case with everybody, but there's this deep mentality of elitism on the left over others that stops people from even thinking about listening to some 'straight white hick' from a rural town.
Being pro life isn't being intolerant. We don't have any solid evidence of when cognition and the presence of consciousness form in a human. With that, logically it follows the best way to mitigate suffering as a whole is to err on the side of caution and avoid abortion if at all possible unless the suffering it would cause the mother would outweigh the loss of a life. To pro-lifers, the potential that you MIGHT be murdering a human is enough to treat it as such in the general case. You can ask most conservatives and they'd tell you they believe in stipulations for specific cases such as if the child is a product of rape or incest. There are already laws in place allowing abortion to be done, even in states where it is limited, if the doctor believes there will be any health risk to the mother.
I do think abortion should be accessible and possibly even covered, but the primary starting point should be to do whatever possible to avoid it.
The point you should take in general is that while it may seem black and white from one perspective, issues very often have more to the story. Pro-life ideology doesn't come from a desire to control women. That's a ridiculous idea that's been pushed for decades by left wing media and it holds no water if you literally take all of 30 seconds to think about it. Nearly half the women in the country are against abortion in some way. The split is almost entirely down party lines.

I don't know if it actually works %100 of the time, but the point of the electoral college is so that the result is not always decided by states with larger populations. All states get an equal voice. You elect your representatives who, in turn, elect the president.

I'm a 40ish black woman and here's my two- cents: Obama made white liberals feel less racist. It's bizarre how they fawn over him, when black people my age can't stand the dude. Hindsight being 20/20, many of us now realize how Obama enjoyed 98% black support and used that political capital to advance a largely white-elitist agenda, from which very, very few AA's benefitted. In short, Obama sucks and at this point nobody cares what he has to say. His endorsements mean nothing, he's 0-3 (Hillary, Abrams and Guillum).
