- The folks at Getac are sponsoring this look at a one of the toughest laptops I've ever had the pleasure of test driving. The V110 G7 is a chunky appliance of a convertible, but this build quality is fantastic for folks who need a more durable computer. I took it out on a road trip, and I have a LOT of thoughts!

Had a toughbook back in the day, these devices are awesome for what they do!
I really like the removable hard drive , makes it so easy to swap or replace the laptop for so unforeseen reason 👍👊
It's such a good design. So easy to get your data even if your machine is damaged bad.
I work in a wood shop. Lots of dust, and I’m hard on my gear. I’d love something halfway between the Getac and a regular laptop. Trading a little ruggedness for a little more refinement, and keeping the repairability and upgradability. I’m loving the rotating screen - I wish more convertibles used that design.
You and me both! There are SO FEW "partially rugged" machines out there, and often they're kinda garbage specs or "student" machines.
And yeah, the "twist" hinge is my absolute fave. Ever since I had a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist. I've never really understood sticking the keys out as the rear of the "tablet" mode.
I know it misses your big need for upgradability, but if that's not a dealbreaker then look into a rugged tablet with fast wifi. When working construction we abused tablets. They still worked through concrete dust and dirt. If you pair it with remote desktop software to a semi decent desktop, and either a cheap keyboard, or one with a silicone cover. It might work good for you. Just another solution to think about.
Lol I was checking out this goofy shark film "Under Paris", and I noticed Getac laptops being used, which I've surprisingly never heard of before. It was a pleasant surprise to see one of my all time favorite reviewers, had just done a video on one a couple months ago.
I use one for my work. It's cheaper than a Panasonic tough book. It is a regular one with a touch screen with locked down company windows. It's a daily tool for me. I have a dock that is bolted in my truck and a dock in my office. It's nice just to slam it on the dock and login and start working. It's a rugged laptop with a super bright touchscreen.
Oh btw .... I have an 7th Gen Intel in mine.
I’ve been considering to buy this for my birthday simply to admire the chunkiness and rugged-ness of systems like these. Kind of reminds me of those films that have a briefcase laptop with some nuclear codes in them 😅 Would love to use this as a consumer.
It feels EXACTLY like that and I love it.
I actually like this for consumer use tbh
It would rock so hard. I wish more options like this really could reach consumers.
Juan I love your rugged reviews but you never answer the question of bludgeoning damage, how can I work in this very practical piece of computing equipment into 5e?
I dunno man. It's only rated for a 4-5 foot drop on asphalt. That's probably what? A 1d4 club? I don't think that's war hammer territory...
"diesel work truck of a laptop" LOL. I like that description.
8:29 I just love the fact that you use phones to record B Rool and there is no sacrifice on quality
They've been getting so good lately. Just faster to point a phone and shoot than setup my mirrorless 😊
I have kids... Used Panasonic Toughbooks are a godsend...
Rugged gadgets are so nice for families. My neighbor's brother keeps giving his kids nicer iPads, and keeps complaining how they bend too easily, even in bumper cases.
But he keeps buying more iPads...
I was just thinking to myself that this would be great for camping and some of the job sites I have worked on.
Dude. When I was a Boy Scout, this would have BLOWN my mind!
Im in scotland so some brands we dont know or hete munch of what would be the most rugged phone, laptop & powerful speaker ..all of which can be integrated or attatch or detachability aswell...cheap to expence? Thin or bulky? Armoured & fastest running & biggest memory ? Tools & attatchments ruggedised or integrayed server & external kughtwieght battery bank fast chargers with multifunctional accesabilty :-) storage & enetgy Hotswapanility :-)
Thinking of purchasing one of these for work & camping on a budget..or refurbed ?
I love mine. If you can find a deal on a used or refurb model, I'd say go for it.
Honestly. I want rugged tablets to get good. It makes sense to replace clipboards with tablets. If it could then be powerful enough to run light drawing or cad software. Or have a good enough connection to RDP back to the office PC. There would be a lot less damaged workstations in the field. And I feel its easier to up armour a tablet than a hinged laptop.
PS, with your point about the double battery, A battery pack with Velcro does basically the same job as a hotswap battery.
Yeaaaah... A battery lump secured with velcro is absolutely not "basically the same" as a well designed, dual case, hot-swappable battery system for a DURABLE and water resistant laptop 😄
