    How refreshing to watch a beautifully tied salmon fly without some ridiculous music playing in the background, just watching someone who obviously knows what he's doing and willing to show those that don't ,excellent

      Yep. So strange so many creaters seem to believe, tht even fishing videos, where we want to hear the wind, the running water, the line in the air, and getting pulled from the water, becomes better by adding some music, that we could turn on on an other channel at the same time, if we wanted it.

    Very nicely tied salmon fly indeed... But... I found a few mistakes that you did in your tying... The biggest one is that you undertied that yellow silk tag with black thread and did not burnish it... You never undertie the light colors like yellow, white, pink, chartreuse, blue, green etc. with the black thread!!! When you run the fly through the water, the tag will never be yellow but you will see the black thread under it... Second, why did you tie the underbody of the black silk body with orange? I would undertie it with black - but this ain´t gonna be such a mess, black body will hold its color even after getting it wet... Your technique of tying in the wings and those GP pheasant crest is great on the other hand... Ribbing might have been more precise though... Why are you polishing the thread right before you create the head? If you do that this way, you will never get smooth polished head!!! I always polish the head with crystal clear nail polish 4-6 layers... Probalbly because of resistance... I never do this... And the last thing I really do not understand is polishing the black head with black polish, I always use the crystal clear polish... If you realize all of these mistakes you did and do it my way, then it will be a perfect fly... All of those I wrote you are coming out of my own fly tying experience... Petr from Czech, Europe.

      I "always" listen to something educational or in other ways important, while watching videos, where I don't need the sound, and wondered every time I restarted this one, why it was so noisy. 3-5 minutes before the end, I happened to hear the thunder, and I understood. Very cool sound track for this specific fly.!

  • @rchouser123

    The rain sounds ate annoying, but I appreciate the fastidious tying. Each thread wrap has a purpose. I also like that style of whip finisher. Everyone uses the spinny awful ones. Pleasant, except for the rain.

    A wonderful example of the art.
    Interesting that you use Turkey for the wing instead of the traditional bronze mallard. Easier to handle and a better finish. I'm taking that.
    Oh, and mallard is hard to get in large sizes.

    Beautiful fly. Do you use waxed or unwaxed thread ? Is it a Bartleet CS10/1 or more heavy CS10/2 ? Like to see more flytying from your hand. Excellent work and good tips with the water to ease the compression of the wing.

    • @elkkuelkku
      @elkkuelkku  7 лет назад +2

      Michael Stange Thanks man! I used the cs10/1 hook in this one. The thread that I used was waxed but in tuff situations I add on some extra wax.

      thats plain water..its softens up the stiff fibers especially on turkey so you can compress the wing without it folding

    • @theprodigalprophet

      Mostly, no they don't fish with them. It is a hobby and an art form unto itself - very skillful stuff far beyond what's needed for routine fly-fishing. He's tying a 1/0 here; most Salmon Flies are in the 3/0 to 7/0 range. Imagine trying to cast one of these giant, heavy, wind-sails on anything smaller than a 12wt (Tarpon sized) big game rod!

    • @elkkuelkku
      @elkkuelkku  7 лет назад

      termite122 Interesting...I always put jc last...not sure if there is a right way to do it. I usually put 1-2 crest for topping but in this fly I think a heavy topping creates a nice contrast with the wing.
