How refreshing to watch a beautifully tied salmon fly without some ridiculous music playing in the background, just watching someone who obviously knows what he's doing and willing to show those that don't ,excellent
Yep. So strange so many creaters seem to believe, tht even fishing videos, where we want to hear the wind, the running water, the line in the air, and getting pulled from the water, becomes better by adding some music, that we could turn on on an other channel at the same time, if we wanted it.
Not quite. A few mistakes in IT...🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
W. O. W ,,,, VERY,, VERY,, WELL DONE 👍…. THESE VIDEOS ARE NOT EASY TO MAKE,,, AND QUITE TIME CONSUMING,,, THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND CREATIVITY, THAT YOU BRING TO THOUSANDS OF US.. PLEASE STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE,,, AND WE ALL PRAY,, THAT YOUR LINES BREAK,,, BECAUSE THE FISH WERE. TO DAMM BIG !!! TXS AGAIN.
Lovely tying. James Wright would be proud of you.
A beautiful tie, love the audio as well.... thank you for this post.
Loved the weather.
Sir! I can feel my pain go away and my heart rate come down from watching your videos. You are a true master. Think you and God bless you. P.S. the rain and thunder makes it more interesting and very relaxing 👍
Beautifully tied Scottish classic, with a soundtrack to match.
Fantastic going to try tiring one thanks for the video
My very favorite video. Watch very closely and you'll see a great artist at work. Thinks my brother, and God bless you. PS. If I send you my unfinished Flys will you please wing them for me?.😁
lol
Beautiful fly, I like the heavy topping. I haven't used three before but I like the look now that I have seen you do it, I may try it. All the best and thanks for sharing. Sean
So calming to watch this video tutorial because I love thunderstorms❤
It feels like I just took a Xanax. So relaxing, great storm. You are like a surgeon. Thanks for posting!
Beautiful a work of art.
Lovely hand craft.
T&L is a lovely patern. Well done 👍
Nice looking fly.
Well, I wrote "Edwin Rist" in the "search" field and this came up 😂 beautiful fly thought...
Very nice dress !!
Truly amazing! Thank you!

fantastic. sitten here one week too christmas, cold weather and thunder and lightning. nice fly
I had to go to the loo 2 times during the course of this video - can't imagine why...
(Also, AWESOME tie!!)
turn off the sound. that helps 😎
Kiitos tuhannesti, tämä avasi tosi paljon sidontaharrastusta. Hieno video 👌👊
Very nicely tied salmon fly indeed... But... I found a few mistakes that you did in your tying... The biggest one is that you undertied that yellow silk tag with black thread and did not burnish it... You never undertie the light colors like yellow, white, pink, chartreuse, blue, green etc. with the black thread!!! When you run the fly through the water, the tag will never be yellow but you will see the black thread under it... Second, why did you tie the underbody of the black silk body with orange? I would undertie it with black - but this ain´t gonna be such a mess, black body will hold its color even after getting it wet... Your technique of tying in the wings and those GP pheasant crest is great on the other hand... Ribbing might have been more precise though... Why are you polishing the thread right before you create the head? If you do that this way, you will never get smooth polished head!!! I always polish the head with crystal clear nail polish 4-6 layers... Probalbly because of resistance... I never do this... And the last thing I really do not understand is polishing the black head with black polish, I always use the crystal clear polish... If you realize all of these mistakes you did and do it my way, then it will be a perfect fly... All of those I wrote you are coming out of my own fly tying experience... Petr from Czech, Europe.
Very nice pattern tied impeccably. I loved the rain and thunder in the background myself. Very soothing. Don’t understand anyone who doesn’t. Turn the sound low if you don’t like it?
Thank you for sharing this with us dude.
I "always" listen to something educational or in other ways important, while watching videos, where I don't need the sound, and wondered every time I restarted this one, why it was so noisy. 3-5 minutes before the end, I happened to hear the thunder, and I understood. Very cool sound track for this specific fly.!
The rain sounds ate annoying, but I appreciate the fastidious tying. Each thread wrap has a purpose. I also like that style of whip finisher. Everyone uses the spinny awful ones. Pleasant, except for the rain.
My pc can turn of the sound with a single click.
Nice fly Bro 👍. Used to tie a few salmon flies and I'm from Singapore 🇸🇬
Thanks! Greetings from Finland!
A wonderful example of the art.
Interesting that you use Turkey for the wing instead of the traditional bronze mallard. Easier to handle and a better finish. I'm taking that.
Oh, and mallard is hard to get in large sizes.
Absolutely superb, top drawer tying
Beautiful fly. Do you use waxed or unwaxed thread ? Is it a Bartleet CS10/1 or more heavy CS10/2 ? Like to see more flytying from your hand. Excellent work and good tips with the water to ease the compression of the wing.
Michael Stange Thanks man! I used the cs10/1 hook in this one. The thread that I used was waxed but in tuff situations I add on some extra wax.
I have been using a norvice for years, can't even imagine tying with anything else, all that winding thread around a hook....
Question about the hackle kind and manufacture name if you can
Thank you , and don’t understand some of the negative comments on your amazing work, some of this flies are much nicer when dressed with simple materials IMO
Awesome
Quick question what's the point in putting that orange thread down on the body if you're going to cover it with black floss anyway?
nice tying. what is the purpose of the orange floss if your are just going to cover it all up with the black floss?
Great question! The floss is actually used to build up the body. You could use any color you want but I happened to have orange floss laying around.
Strange...
sorry forgot why the gloves you allergic to something your tying in just curious
maybe a stupid question, why you use gloves in the first part of the body? (me=beginner)
Mathias Holmström hey man, those are called silk gloves, and they’re used to prevent the floss from tarnishing due to the natural oils on our hands, hope this wasn’t too late! Tight lines!
Gorgeous fly, wonder, was it water that You put, while setting the wing....?
Great classic fishable fly
nice, well done
Affraid of using mallard as wings?
Очень крутая муха! Подписался!
Why the gloves??
It kind of looks like dye from the thread is coming off onto the gloves
need to get better sound for the background I'm guessing it's supposed to be flowing water just sounds like static to me. Other then that you def tied 1 beautiful fly there.
beautifully executed..what head cement did you use at the end?
Too pretty to fish with!
Beautiful work. What is the name of the tool you use at 10:24, to tie off the end? I sure could use a tool like that.
Whip finnisher. There are many models and sizes.
beautiful job..perfect wing too..what did you apply to the turkey before you tied it in?
Water, others have said.
I wish I could tie like this.
I’m sure you could given enough practice and patience.
Still a few mistakes in this tying. But in the end the fly came out well...🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
Very nice fly!! Noobie question, what is is the fluid you are using on the wing before tying it? And what is the purpose?
thats plain water..its softens up the stiff fibers especially on turkey so you can compress the wing without it folding
Do people fish with these because that is truly a peice of art
Mostly, no they don't fish with them. It is a hobby and an art form unto itself - very skillful stuff far beyond what's needed for routine fly-fishing. He's tying a 1/0 here; most Salmon Flies are in the 3/0 to 7/0 range. Imagine trying to cast one of these giant, heavy, wind-sails on anything smaller than a 12wt (Tarpon sized) big game rod!
I tie these beautiful Victorian patterns to frame.
How many fibers do you use for wings?
Are the rubber(?) gloves to keep the floss clean, to get a grip, or to avoid ripping strands loose?
11 months and no answer... Thanks
lol. Noone's got an answer from this Finn yet..lol
The sound you used drove me mad ! I did turn it down, nice work
I am still new to this, why the glove?
thetechnoman1 The gloves prevents dirt getting in to the silk from your fingers and also prevents the silk getting stuck into dried and ragged fingers.
Nice
What are you applying to the turkey feathers to hold the wing in place?
Water, some claim.
С меня подписка и 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
nice job...i found it interesting you mount your jc sides after your toppings..i do my toppings last unless im mounting horns..is 3 toppings just a personal thing too?
termite122 Interesting...I always put jc last...not sure if there is a right way to do it. I usually put 1-2 crest for topping but in this fly I think a heavy topping creates a nice contrast with the wing.
i agree with the 3 crests..ive tied the thunder and lightening numerous times but always a full married wing...nice work..
Nice!
What are you using on the wing with the brush?
Dominique LeBlanc I add just normal water. That helps with getting a nice wing.
Thank you. You have some nice flies.
Very interesting trick! Thanks for this, I will try it. I hope it helps to set up a heavy wings made from 24-30 barbs.
Tight lines to you;)!
Alex K Yes I recommend to try it. Just be careful not to soak the whole wing. If the wing doesent line up on the first try I let it dry to get its profile back.
Master of the wings. I always have problem with turkey wings, quills fall apart when I tighten the thread. Does water solve this problem?
Почему в перчатках резиновых,неудобно ведь?
What is that tool to apply the orange floss?
Just apply the spool of whatever floss you are using into any bobbin and use it just like thread! 👍
👍👍👏👏
What size hook?
Read the description.
To anyone who sat through the entire 30+ minutes of this video and put up with that annoying storm soundtrack, you have nerves of steel. For the rest of us - just turn it all the way down right from the start of the video. The guy has nothing to say along the way, so you are missing nothing.
Can you believe there are 21 dislikes !!!!.
