Back in the 1980 era I would melt silver with borax and soda, never thought of using it for gold....... I have this real fine gold that I cannot melt because you need lead to get it. Someone suggested Chapman flux. I never used it before. Does. It really work. I do not have enough lead.
Chapman flux works well for most. You need to experiment with the mix since separating the other metals ( i.e. copper) is different around the world. Find what is best for your area. Nice Video
Cooking oil is good too..more affordable and more shinier..and take note,it can remove any dirt on top such as copper or that borax that got stucked on top..

Theres no measure for borax..just only see to it that the gold will not drown..the purpose of borax is to help for meltdown
