Thank you! I've been a die-hard Ranger gal for a while but I love how Vim-like Vifm is. I really love how you've gone through vifmrc line by line. Now I begin to see how to adapt Vifm for my needs. I'm an old (and I do mean OLD) MS-DOS/OS2 CMD gal, so I *love* the DOS Navigator/CM Filer twin panel layout. This is an *excellent* tutorial. Now I'm gonna go dabble in some Vifm!

@habituallearner7680. Great username by the way... I'm so glad you found it useful. I love to read comments like this, it really makes my day. I do remember the DOS days albeit vaguely, but never used OS2.
Thank you for the kind words.

You talked me into it. 'll give it a try. I don't think it will pull me away from ranger, but maybe. I have always loved dual pane file managers (I 💗 Krusader), so this will be fun to try at least. Great video as always! Hope you and the fam have a wonderful holiday season and a happy, happy New Year!

@TheLinuxCast. It may not pull you away from your beloved crusader, but it is well worth a try... Especially if you like vim as much as we do. Happy new year to you and yours as well

By far the best "intro" for Vifm! Thank You! You forgot to tell 2 things: 1) how did you set Nvim syntax highlight for vifmrc (i know you can find config in the wild and put it into after/syntax) 2) that you can use Bat for colorful file previews.

When Mike posts videos, Miyo watches...
    However...
Some of us can't help it if the video producer doesn't highlight nnn (even though he mentioned it)....

WOW! Good stuff Mike! Thanks man!

And when miyo posts videos. Mike watches. I can't comment sometimes due to other outside circumstances... But Mike watches. Lol.
I guess I haven't seen the light yet and switched to nnn, but it is quite nice... (Not noice) lol. Pun absolutely intended.

saved my a** after getting stuck in "view" mode . The online manual doesn't mention the use of "w" as an escape from the view mode invoked by ":view" . Using all the commands in the man pages in this mode result in closing the app, nothing or error messages. Come to think of it it doesn't really mention that you have to use ":view" to get into view mode either . Never the less it's a great FM.

i copied them from emojipedia and pasted them into the config just make sure you have an emoji font installed.. I am using google's noto-color-emoji font. if you'd like to have a look at the conifg, it's in my dotfiles.

its in the .config folder under vifm

Nice! You always have a cool video even though I don't always get it all... Lol
You do know a true friend watches these kinds of videos even though he uses Nano... 🤣🤪😆
I gave up on Vim years ago. My big head does not get it, so I quit trying. Yet I do watch some videos on
it. Been on Linux for 5+ years and I still have to use a note taped to my keyboard that has :q on it so I know how to Quit
vim when I accidentally open something in Vim... Hahahaha
Still getting use to the new intro and outro... Not sure... 🤔

@Bruces-Eclectic-World. Hi Bruce. I appreciate your patience. lol.
I still have the old intro/outro and I will probably still use it from time to time. I keep messing with the intro in kdenlive and have about 6 different versions of it. I'm going off a sample size of one right now (my son liked it), but it was well received. lol.
Happy New Year to you and yours buddy.

@@linuxdabbler I know what you mean. I have several versions with music and the works... Lol
You know old people, change is hard... Lol
I think the intro may be a bit to short that is throwing me off. The Logo is neat too but it is a bit small in the comments and it is my favorite color, blue... 😆
I know the image size google wants make it hard to make a logo/avatar that is clear to see being small. It took over 2 dozen tries to get Busters pic to look like a dog... 🐕
Experimenting is always fun so don't mind me as long you son approves its all good... LOL 👍
I keep going back and forth on my intro's too. Do I talk first like you do, then run the intro music or just run the music and then start talking. Hell I have enough issues starting the video as it is. Lol
So I just do it the old way it was done a few years ago on YT..
Besides, I'm Old and I can do what I want... 🤣
      See ya Next Year!

    Thanks for the tutorial.
In what codepage is your vifmrc and what font face do you use? No one font on my system can display characters used in your vifmrc as "icons" for directories and files.

    • @linuxdabbler
      @linuxdabbler  Год назад

@Ed-Pavlov. I have a nerd font installed. I recommend Ubuntu nerd font or inconsolata nerd font
      nerdfornts.com
Just download the one you want and unzip it, then move all the TTF fonts to /usr/share/fonts or to ~/.local/share/fonts then run fc-cache -v in your terminal to update your font cache.
There is a block of code in my vifmrc around line 227 that defines the icons.
      gitlab.com/linuxdabbler/dotfiles
When you are in the dotfiles repo, just navigate to .config/vifm/vifmrc
      Hope this helps

Great video, it helped me a lot. I don't know why but for some reason I am not getting any syntax
highlighting on vifmrc. I tried to find ways to get it but nothing worked and everything else has it in vim but just this vifmrc. So can you please tell me what you did to get it there. I know its nothing that big of a problem but it would be nice to have it.

    • @linuxdabbler
      @linuxdabbler  Год назад +1

Ok. I think what you are looking for is in my theme. I have a colors directory in .config/vifm and source a theme in my vifmrc. I use gruvbox.vifm. it has different colors for directories and files. I also customized it a little too get the look I wanted.
