  • Today we share how to waterproof a shower with Hydro Ban Board. This is one of the easiest methods for remodeling a shower. We waterproofed a tub shower combo in two hours and started setting tile the same day.
For more home improvement tips visit www.homerepairtutor.com/👍🏼
These are the supplies you need:
    Hydro Ban Board -- 3' x 5' x 1/2"
Hydro Ban Board Screws -- amzn.to/2CYwQMN
Hydro Ban Sealant and Adhesive -- amzn.to/2QgLfaS
Drill or Impact Driver -- amzn.to/2qqM4CM
    Utility Knife -- amzn.to/2PHTLme
    Chalk Line -- amzn.to/2SG6ULg
    Measuring Tape -- amzn.to/2yNYJED
The first step with this shower was to add 1/4" plywood to the main shower wall. This allowed the Hydro Ban Board to be slid down over the tub flange.
Apply beads of Hydro Ban Sealant to the flange then screw boards to the studs. Shower studs should be 16" on-center and screws should be no more than 12" from each other along the stud. No washers are needed for Hydro Ban Board walls.
All Hydro Ban Board seams and screws need to be sealed with the Hydro Ban Sealant.
We like this method of waterproofing showers because it's fast and the boards can be used to build custom shower niches.

    • @HomeRepairTutor

Great question, we added the 1/4" plywood over the back wall studs. This allowed us to slide the Hydro Ban Board down over the tub flange. However, on the other walls we couldn't add the 1/4" plywood because that would bump the Hydro Ban Board out from the existing drywall. So, in order for the 1/2" Hydro Ban Board to sit flush with the 1/2" drywall we chose not to shim the other stud walls. Hope that makes sense?
