      Thanks very much indeed Elder! Haha, I do seem to have ended up with an audience that has mixed tastes, I think owing to the eclectic mix of addons I tend to fly on the channel; but I try to make each video entertaining in its own right, so I’m really glad you enjoyed this one : )
      Much appreciated and all the best!

    Another fantastic video. Just shy of an hour, but there was no padding & you crammed everything in. Every minute was a joy to watch. This is definitely another one to re-watch. Including the additional sounds, it was as real as it gets & a real pleasure. It's still nice to see the British Midland livery in action again.

      Thanks very much AS, I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight! It was good fun hopping back into the Maddog and made for a nice change of pace on my end. I’m sure an hour long video is a bit much for many, but I try and break it up into “interesting” chunks and I figure people can then watch as much / little as they want. It always brings a little smile to my face, getting Midland flying once again haha.
      Many thanks once again for your support. Much appreciated and all the best! : )

    I envy you're knowledge and skills, I would love to manage a flight like that with such a high quality product. I thought I would skip through a bit of this until I realized you pass on the exact same level of detailed procedures for this big bird as you do with a Cessna 172, no difference, just different craft that ultimately do the exact same thing. Everyone of your uploads are treat for me...Kudos

      I’m sure you could Rahman, given the time and practice. I learnt a tonne through simming, before I ever got into real flying. Of course flight sims and the real world aren’t 100% like for like, but one can pick up a lot when it comes to systems, procedures etc; it’s just a question of continuously plugging away and learning things little by little ; )
      I’m really glad I managed to bring you along for the entire ride haha. I’m fully cognisant that an hour long flight sim video won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but I try to break the flight up into “interesting” chunks and figure people can watch as much / little as they like. It’s a genuine pleasure to hear that someone enjoyed the video though, for sure : )
      Many thanks once again. All the best!

      Haha, it’s definitely a legitimate technique Jay Mac! Generally it’s only done if one is already close to configuring, otherwise speedbrake is preferred (as you can get rid of the drag again thereafter). That’s one of the great things about simming, one can often end up teaching themselves (through trial and error) more than they even know haha.
      Happy flying! : )

    Butter Landing! Didn't even wake the colicky baby that was across the aisle earlier. I have flown on this aircraft more than any other in my lifetime (Thanks DELTA Routes DFW-ATL & DTW-ATL). This was so real from the passenger views ... the 20* climb angle, the engine sounds and the "lickety split" descent. The Sound Mod brought the audible memories back and enhanced this flight models' overall sim experience value. BTW, aisles 32 and 33 are my favorites on the MD-82.

    Thank you for such an outstanding video. I truly enjoy your work. You always have expertise with the aircraft, and you are very concise and precise in your actions and your words. This is a pleasant contrast to the RUclips pilots who fumble and bumble and try to figure things out as they go along. Lol. I am certain it takes a great deal of preparation for you to get up to speed on any particular aircraft. The Maddog MD-80 and its variants are acknowledged to be the most quirky and challenging of the study level airliners. Yet, I think you set a world record programming the FMC in this video! That’s where I always seem to bog down when I play with airliners. You are certainly one of the very best pilots, reviewers and demonstrators. Thank you for your great work!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Thank you very much indeed for the kind words, Cherry Tree!
      We all enjoy simming in different ways, but I tend to derive most of my enjoyment from trying to operate the aircraft correctly (at least as much as time for study allows) and my videos tend to simply reflect how I enjoy using MSFS / flight sims. It certainly can take a bit of prep at times (and it’s very annoying how quickly I tend to forget how to operate the aircraft thereafter haha), but I wouldn’t enjoy fumbling around and there are certainly far more entertaining simmers that take that angle, so I try and stick to my strengths haha.
      It’s always an absolute pleasure to hear that someone is enjoying the style / content of the videos I produce, so thank you very much for taking the time!
      Hugely appreciated, once again. All the best : )

    No weather radar in this? That’s illegal according to my FAR book! Leonardo needs to pay a heavy fine for not putting weather radar in this. Guess if I get this it’s Foreflight AGAIN in bad weather 😉 Nice video as always 👍

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад +3

      Haha, indeed Chris; it seems that instead of Leonardo paying a hefty fine, it is in fact the customer that must pay a heavy price XD
      I can’t blame the dev too much though. No WX radar, seems to be standard practice amongst the “study level” jets, given that Asobo’s core implementation of the system is a bit basic at the moment. I had thought we would have seen the issue fixed by now but, I presume the focus has shifted towards MSFS 2024 (for better or worse).

      I have to say that the MD-80 is more modern than I expected. Hey Mr. Blue (i still don't know your name), I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your channel and your reviews are amazing!
    I was wondering if you could consider doing a bush flying video in the Amazon rainforest? It would be really cool to see you navigate through the dense jungle and land on some of the remote dirt strips. There are very nice airports and airstrips there! Not to mention the sudden torrential rain and the occasional fog after.
    Some of the common flights there are:
    Aeromedical: Hauling medical supplies to remote indigenous villages and picking-up ill people on the way back to be treated on some major city like manaus or santarém.
    Aero-Taxi: Charter flights to places only accessible by boats or even just planes.
    Vôo de Garimpo: Hardcore bush flying. Very common in the 80s and 90s as part of the brazilian gold rush. Search for "
    Pilotos da Selva" on yt.
    I'm stuck in xp11 due to my trusty friend gtx650 not handling fs2020 and it's very nice so see someone flying just like i would :)
    Can't wait to upgrade, sadly i know it will be years from now.

That’s how impostors fly them. That’s for sure. It’s not a choice. They can’t do otherwise. I just find all this very sad. Both in real life and especially in the virtual World were it wouldn’t cost anything to go beyond being a system operator. I’ll keep on searching for a real pilot performance. One day i’ll find someone actually demonstrating some real piloting skills.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Well, that’s as maybe Jonny, but I wouldn’t say that manually flying in the way you describe is the “norm” in the industry (whether or not it should be, is a whole other conversation) and I don’t agree that someone making use of the automation, is any sort of inherent indication that they’re unable to fly the aircraft (it certainly doesn’t make them an “imposter”). I can’t speak for other airlines of course, but in the carrier I work for, it’s pretty rare to see guys manually flying to the aforementioned extent and it’s not for a lack of talent (I’ve flown with plenty of very accomplished pilots over the years).
      As far as the virtual world goes, sometimes it’s easier to just stick the automation in and then I can focus on the commentary / review etc. I’ve flown all sorts here on the channel; from fast jets, to helicopters, warbirds, to hot air balloons. I’m not about to give Eric Winkle Brown a run for his money haha, but many of my videos are flown entirely manually and against all the odds, I haven’t had any major catastrophes as of yet ; )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations ok. In theory you’r right. But in my personal experience the vast majority of pilots’ basic skills are severely compromised and, still statistically, those who abuse automation do so because they are completely incapable of anything else. For them it’s not a choice. I would love to see some “real flying” from time to time both in virtual and real but i never see any. It’s sad. There is no value given to true flying in both worlds.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      For sure, Johnny, I agree; manual flying skills aren’t fostered anywhere near as much as they should be within the industry - it’s a shame. Pilots are to blame to a certain degree, but I think the airlines shoulder a lot of blame on that one.
      As far as RUclips goes, as I say, I do all sorts of flying here on the channel, much of it manual. I’m always down for a challenge, so if there’s something you’d like to see, let me know and I’ll see what I can do ; )
      In terms of “real flying”, CGAviator immediately springs to mind: An ex-RAF Tornado driver, so the chap definitely knows how to fly haha. He puts out some very entertaining vids, so you might well enjoy them : )

      It is sad that the Maddog doesn’t get nearly as much attention as the competition, but I think Leonardo rather created that situation for themselves. As much as I love the MD82, it is somewhat of a “luxury” purchase within the sim; the aircraft texturing / sounds are fairly dated and the product is significantly more expensive than most of the competition. Otherwise though, the Maddog is right up there in terms of quality, it’s great fun to fly and it’s really nice to operate something a little bit “different”.

    great video here , but I have question , is there a BUG about VNAV and FMS OVRD speed?, select FMS OVRD for speed limit and engage VNAV for climb, the aircraft would climb to asigned altitude and when reaching, the auto throttle would decreaes and speed drops causing stall while VNAV continue climbing. when finally reached asigned altitude with no power from engines, the autothrottle would increase again and speed gets up, pretty weird.

That being said, I don’t recall there being any obvious bugs with the jet the last time I flew it - the MD82 does have one or two peculiarities in terms of how it’s operated. It’s certainly possible that there is an issue, but I’m afraid I am unable to test for myself at the moment (I don’t have access to my main PC for a couple of weeks).
      Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best! : )

    Oof, first thing I saw in the first scene was a modelling error... and a broader view of that cockoit is rough, ouch. That truck in front at LHR is a few thousand miles lost I think!
    Interesting cockpit, think I'll still wait for the JF Fokkers though. Does it do a good impression of tab powered controls? cockoit vids of md80 landings seem to have a lot of yoke whirling, especially fishing for pitch.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Hi RD,
      Haha, what was the modelling error? The cockpit does look a bit dated graphically, but it doesn’t bother me personally and actually kind of fits in with the aesthetic of the MD80 I think ha.
      I’m very much looking forward to the JF Fokkers (all of them) and no doubt they’ll be a little bit more “up to date” visually. Yes, overall I would say that the Maddog is quite convincing in terms of the flight model; the thing handles like a school bus at low speeds and you can basically wrestle your controls around, looking like a hero, with very little change in picture out the front (I actually had to dial UP my control sensitivities for the MD-80 - the only MSFS aircraft which has required that so far haha) XD

      Yep, I’d have to agree with that evaluation overall. The Maddog is a great addon in many respects, but it’s heavily overpriced by modern standards and the fact that the aircraft is showing its age in a number of areas, doesn’t do anything to help. I really think Leonardo ought to have offered the MD83/88 as free expansions, to at least help soften the blow a little bit. I could be wrong, but I’d imagine the pricing of the Maddog has cost Leonardo a huge amount of money / sales. I really enjoy the addon for what it is, but it should be about half the price to be competitive.
