I did well on the history quizzes! Only missed 1 or 2 on each test. All the questions I missed had to do with W.W. 2. I guess I need to add that to my studies along w/the Civil War, U.S. prez, British monarchs & Titanic! Norma Jean Morrissey
Question 9: Germany did not exist in 1818. Karl Marx was born in Trier, which was in the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, a province of the Kingdom of Prussia.
Why does ‘famous people’ have to be show business? Why not major players in medicine, industrial revolution, science, exploration, transport, the arts and music (not just pop) - expand your horizons!
Question #15. One of the possible answers was given as J R Tolkien. Omitted an R. Of course the correct choice is J K Rowling, so the flub isn't THAT much of a sin.

This has nothing to do with the quiz but I'll comment anyway. A far better name for Washington's NBA team would be the "Monuments". After all, basketball players stand out among athletes, and most definitely the general public. Their NHL team is the "Capitals", so why not call the NBA team the "Monuments"? This quiz was difficult, but when you're born without a "Department Of Intelligence" everything is difficult. (See Lord I'm humble.)
alleged Hess committed suicide.. but i strongly believe-murdered to shut him up.. although a nazi,he exhibited much courage in his mission. he wanted to negotiate a peace treaty between germany and britain.. and should have been treated with respect--immunity from arrest[like all ambassadors].. i wonder if many Brits acknowledge this.
i never ever learned that Columbus established a settlement - seems to be Haiti. Americans don't learn about the Canadian settlements either!! history stops at our borders!! (as does the weather, if you've ever noticed!)
the norse never made it to america, they made it to canada. as the land they stopped at is not apart of america. the only norse settlements have been found at Norse buildings were found at L'Anse aux Meadows near the northern tip of Newfoundland in 1960. Newfoundland and Labrador, province of Canada composed of the island of Newfoundland and a larger mainland sector, Labrador, to the northwest so no the vikings never made it to america. so until they find evidence that vikings were in america, Columbus is still the first. sorry Columbus haters
