There might be someone that comes along and hits 4, but no one is EVER going hit 3 in a row on the first pitch, from 3 different pitchers, to 3 different part of the park. It is still amazing 41 years later.
bobby sands Anen, brother! #BronxChickLivingInAtl
Agree ! ⚾⚾⚾ on the first pitch each time ! Wow! And the third one to the Mars! 💥🌠😂

I concur.
It was actually 4 straight on 4 pitches. The game before in LA, he hit one in the 9th inning
My Dad was at this game. He's somewhere out there in right field. He was a man of few words, but he lit up when reminiscing of that night and the Yankees in general. He passed away this year. I'll pass his stories down to my son.
My dad was in the RF upper deck!
What an awesome experience that must’ve been.
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your dad! But how much did he pay for a ticket for that game?
@@ToryJay I think he snuck in lol.
Very sorry about your dad's passing but you have the wonderful memories of him and like you said ones you can pass down. I just lost my dad three months ago. And while he was not a baseball fan I have a wonderful sports memory of him, going to my first ever Soccer game together. Best wishes.
I was 12 in '77.
I bought a Reggie bar to save it as a collector's item.

Moments like this are why professional sports are a truly beautiful thing to watch
...absolutely !!! I was 14 on this classic night and watching it today { 42 years to the date} brought a tear to my eye !! CHILLS TOO !!
Lol...u don't say
Bonds would have to inject roids just to dream about this moment ,..
Baseball and sports are all about the money, it will never be the same.😌
Before PEDs and mass celebrations after every extra base hit
There'll never, EVER, be another WS performance like this.
Rt, but the Yankees are always fun to watch win world series. There has been some fun world series in our yankees fans lifetimes.
The NY Yankees, Reggie Jackson and Howard Cosell - You CANNOT GET any better than this.
YES!!! The GREAT Cosell.
It’s the perfect storm
Cosell's voice was made for big moments. He wasn't ideal for calling baseball games in the regular season. How worked up can you be about one of 162 games. But for boxing, Monday Night Football, and playoff baseball, Howard was the maestro.
@@aquamarine99911 And -- laughably -- Stephen A. calls himself the Cosell of this generation...
I’m 50 years old and watching this clip made me feel like a kid again!

Absolutely
1977 you were 5 or 6.you was old enough to see him play.great story
@@pierlouis7325 I was 7 years old and my grandfather took me to Orioles games regularly. I also started playing little league baseball that summer. I’ll be 52 next month.
I'm 55 and I was nine years old when I saw this. I was rooting for the Dodgers, but this was just an amazing moment for Reggie.
One of the sweetest swings in baseball !!!!! I remember being on my little league team in Oakland (we were called the Oakland A's) and our coach took our team to the Oakland Coliseum to watch the real Oakland A's practice. There was no game that day. Guess who walked over and talked to us???? None other than the great Reggie Jackson himself. I remember he was wearing the old style Oakland A's uniform, so it must been around the late 1960's or early 70's . Anyway, Reggie spent time with us, answered all our questions and gave us tips on playing the game. I never forget that day and I will never will forget Reggie, a class act all the way
Lucky you!!!
AB man, Wow!
What a priceless Memory! Boy, back with the A's!
Reg was a young buck then!...💯
The purest hitting swing I ever saw was Clemente. The purest POWER swing belongs to Reggie.
Great story
That’s awesome! A real life superhero…what a great experience!
I'm 54 years old I was just a boy when I watch this happen. To this day it is one of the greatest moments in my memory as a youth and one of the greatest moments in sports history
You dont have to be a fan of baseball to get tears in your eyes watching this moment of magic. What a team, what a game, what a man. This is why we love sports.
I was 10yrs old when I watched this, I'm 52 now, an I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was 12. Everything you just said...ditto.
I was ten as well and lived in Manhattan, rooting for the Mets mostly but a Yankee fan in the postseason since the Mets weren't contenders.
Nine at the time & I recall it vividly.
Me too
Gregory Lipscomb I was 11 great memories
REGGIE! REGGIE! REGGIE! I watched Jackson live in Oakland since they came to Oakland in 1968. Me and other kids watch Reggie hit batting practice then come over and talk to us and sign autographs. I was is awe. Sports figures like Reggie were bigger than life. There is something else only A's and serious fans of REGGIE really appreciated. Watching REGGIE strikeout! His violent swing was one for the ages. What a legend. When he hit HRs you knew it. The all-star game in Detroit was Roy Hobbs stuff. REGGIE! REGGIE! REGGIE!❤⚾️⚾️⚾️
Like Catfish Hunter once said, "Reggie is a generous guy! He would give you the shirt off his back. Of course, he could call a press conference to announce it." Yes, Mr. October was deserved.
Well in the 1981World Series he lost the Ball in the lights well one of the reporters asked him about the incident wow was he ever ticked off about that
Robert Yglesias I’d be too. If he wasn’t, no passion to win.
Robert Yglesias Which game was it?
Our man "The Catfish" took care of business when he was on the mound!!!!!💯👊💪⚾!
Remember him well.....
Him, Guidrey, all those boyz, Cold Blooded on the mound.....
There are other Yankees who deserve that Moniker- The "Mick" is the true one.
The way he came out for the curtain call with the crowd cheering gives me goose bumps.

When Reggie Jackson first came to NYC, he told the press: "I'm the straw that stirs the drink." Then proved it with a performance of a lifetime during World Series play.
Tracey MR REGGIE JACKSON ALREADY WAS A CHAMPION WHEN HE WAS PLAYING FOR OAKLAND BEFORE THAN THE YANKEES
@@bobbymadera3234 Mr. Bobby, I'm aware of the that. He still made that comment to the NYC media and press upon his arrival. I remember the mighty Oakland Athletics of the early 1970's. Catfish Hunter, Joe Rudi, Sal Bandero, Rollie Fingers with general manager Charles Finley who recruited these players were a dynasty. They won 3 World Series. Reggie Jackson came to NYC and set the city on fire.

Love Howard Cosell, What a colossal blow! That comment and statement stands out big time. I love his home run trot.
That sounds like "The Scooter" Phil Rizzuto.
The cool thing is he doesn't trot. He runs it.
I loved his trot too. I will say that other than Muhammad Ali, I think Reggie was Howard Cosell’s favorite athlete to watch.
@@TheSilverfox808 it was Howard Cosell
Right up there with tremendous machine
We were all in awe. I was 10 years old. And everyone knew his name... It was awesome.
That last homer is sooooo Boss! Like he couldn't even believe it!
He hesitated to watch it. He knew.
Like with Ali, Cosell makes these historical events all the more memorable.
Absolutely ✊
You either loved Howard or you didn't...
Todays announcers are plastic phonies. Howard had so much character.
Those "In the zone" moments you always hear about in sports. This was one of the finest examples
Even Reggie's homerun trot was epic.
Some stars shine brighter when the pressure is on. That was Reggie! There were bigger home run hitters, of course, but none that could bring it like Reggie when the entire world was watching, and it mattered most.
Reggie Jackson was a great athlete. Defiantly one of the best baseball players of all time.
...WHAT WE CALL " Clutch !!! ...He and I share the same birthday { May 18} ...that's one reason I always liked him, I am now 56 and THIS was a night in MLB for the ages !! A fall classic for sure !!

Yes, while at Arizona State University, he was a top-notch Defensive Back and could've played pro football as well but got drafted by Oakland Athletics and the rest is history.
This is in the pre-juice, softer ball era when home runs were hard to come by. Big accomplishment.

“I didn’t come to New York to be a star. I’m bringing my star with me.” -Reggie Jackson.
Won three consecutive WS championships in Oakland earlier in the decade!
He was right. He had by that time won three championships, MVP award, two HR titles, a world series MVP award, monster all star game HR and victory. That is some pretty good credible evidence for a star.
True story. His second time up...I told my friend " he's going to do it again." Third time up, I said "here comes 3 in a row....first pitch...watch". It was not an educated guess. I knew he would do it. So weird, I just had a premonition. Totally freaked my friend out.
Not an educated guess, a lucky guess but still cool
LOL what a fool
I was 13, watching this with my Dad and my brother on TV. The third time he came to the plate, my Dad (a lifelong Yankees fan) said "he's going to hit another one". Then of course he did. It was the only time in my life I ever saw my Dad yelling and jumping up and down in front of the TV.
@@Paul-um1zw I mean nobody cares
I stayed home from school that day playing sick. I felt like I was getting ready for the game. I said If Reggie doesn't hit 3 homers tonight I'll be so mad at him. I have often heard stories over the years how people felt he was gonna hit multiple homers that night. Crazy premonition from so many people including myself.
I was there ! after the third one the stadium moved up and down it was amazing
42 years ago TODAY !! Still WOW !!
I get chills as I hear the crowd chant "Reg-gie!!, Reg-gie!!!!...begging him for a curtain call...then he obliges after the 3rd one...magnificent.

At @1:15 mark, my father is the guy in the dark seats who runs across the screen from right to left. He said the guy who ran straight down was the one who got the Ball because he kindv've smothered it. My dad worked for the Daily News at the time. Albert Pujols also hit three home runs in a game during the 2011 World Series. He saw more than three pitches though, so Reggie still has him beat.
@@Gemnist98. That is still impressive. But the turmoil/pressure that was on Reggie that whole season was astonishing

HISTORY! October 18th, 1977!
VIVIDLY IS RIGHT !! Just classic as it gets !!
So do I. I was in seventh grade, watching the World Series at home in Cleveland, Oh.
Your so right. When he stepped in the box the scoreboard was flashing REG-GIE over and over, but then it switched to say " one more time". I looked at my sister and said NO WAY. It would be to perfect, and perfect only happens in movies and fairytales. THEN THE BALL LANDED IN THE CENTERFIELD SEATS.
WOW!!!!!!
That last HR was a freaking monster!
The N.Y. Yankees defeating the L.A. Dodgers in the 1977 and 1978 World Series are some of my most fondest childhood memories.
what do you mean, only real newyorkers can appreciate? i was 8 and grew up on south TX, best dam thing ive ever seen. now im mid 40s and still think it's the greatest. best dam home run trot as well.
A lot of us in Canada felt the same.

the GREATEST single performance in ALL of sports.
Cowsell's call on the third HR still gives me chills. OH WHAT A BLOW!
One thing about Cosell is he really was excited. He was the Simon Cowell of sports announcing then. If Reggie tanked during Game 6 Cosell would have pointed it out.
*If Reggie had tanked....
Right up there with "DOWN GOES FRAZIER!"
I think Seaver got the best of the 3rd dinger when he realized it first. "Goodbye"
Reggie invented PIMPIN’ around the bases with that left shoulder dip as he went into his trot. Outstanding
Reggie is an absolute legend!
I was twelve at the time and was at the games in LA for that series, my dad had season tickets. A magical time for baseball during those years.
Epic and the greatest single game performance ever in a World Series.
I grew up in LA during Reggie's time with the Angels. He's my childhood hero. I waited for him after every home game we attended and he would acknowledge me every time, even remembered my name. Still have the cap and bat he gave me. Love that guy.
Everybody talks about Bond and Griffey,s swing but to me Reggie Jackson had a powerful and majestic swing
For those of us who grew up the NYC area during this era. This was a special time. Reggie was for many of us young kids the very image of manhood! He delivered on the biggest stage in the world!
Yankee stadium was electric!
Though baseball may not be America's most popular game, it has BY FAR the most revered postseason in all of sports, period. Magical moments like this, the Fisk fair or foul, and Kirby's "We'll see ya tomorrow night" are proof
Excellent point!
Also the Cubbies winning it all.
I was 10years old when this happened .My father and I stayed up and watched this game
One thing many people forget about Reggie's performance in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series was that he actually hit home runs on the last FOUR strikes he saw in that series. Often forgotten is that he also homered off Don Sutton late in Game 5 on the last pitch he saw in that game, which the Dodgers won easily to force Game 6. He walked on four pitches in his first AB, which Burt Hooton also paid for, thanks to Chris Chambliss hitting a HR after Reggie's walk, and then he hit three consecutive first pitch HRs to cement his legacy.
3 Consecutive first pitch home runs off of three different pitchers ;)
That's what made it extra special....***
That home run actually came in the 7th inning of game 1 off of future Yankee Tommy John. :)
No it wasn't, the 1978 Yankees opened the season in Texas and he didn't hit a HR, the home opener was 5 days later
Yeah, I must have been thinking World Series home runs or something. Derp!
Watched this as a12 year old kid, became a Yankee fan for life and wore 44 for ever sport I played....goosebumps
This is one of those records that will never be broken. 3 home runs on 3 pitches.
Actually, he hit 4 home runs in 4 straight at bats. His last at bat in LA Reggie hit a homer.
At 11 years old this was the first GREAT Sports act I ever saw. And still my favorite. Iwas a Dodger fan and still hate the Yankees but? This was incredible. Note? Reggie ran the bases, he had no trot other than his typical running of the bases. They say in sports, act like you been there before and Reggie did. Even his candy bar was pretty good. lol
I remember as a kid in North Texas straining to try to stay awake to see through the end of this game. I did. I was 7. For the next 10 years baseball was nearly the most important thing in my life.
This made me a baseball fan for life, first game I saw as a little boy.
I remember watching this as a kid. Amazing. Reggie is a man for the ages.
Speechless. ,Joe Morgan....johnny bench...Pete rose....reggie Jackson...hank Aaron...Ernie banks.. An era gone by.
I'm a '77 baby! My dad watched this entire series with me sitting in his arms he said. Forever I was enshrined a Yankee fan
My son too,his name is Reggie
I was only 14 years old when that world series game was played. I remember after the game was over, Yankees won, and the fans swarmed the field. Hard to believe that was in 1977. Where has time gone?
Can I just say ... he abused every single one of those baseballs.
Triple decker shot, first deck laser beam, blast into the covered seats in CF.
Reggie had plenty of faults as a player and person, but that night?
He went full on beast mode ...
Faults? Like what?
He may have "looked" like he had faults.. but I did meet him once and he was just the nicest, most gentle, and friendly guy.
@@averagejohnson3985 He wasent a great fielder and struck out too much. But never had a problem with what he did off the field.
Faults? He struck out WAY too much, he had a very high opinion of himself but I think that was part of his greatness. He was a bit of a liability defensively. But few had the presence on the big stage in big moments than Reggie.
Greatest performance in World Series history I have ever seen.

I enjoyed the era but certainly not Cosell . Read his auto biography sometime. Geeeesh Louise what an egomaniac!
That is so funny! I was just thinking the same thing.
Saw this on TV at the time. Greatest single game performance of any player I've seen in my 40+ years of watching MLB - 3 HR on three pitches in the deciding game of the WS. The thing about the last HR that was so impressive, in addition to its distance, was that so few players ever hit one in that blackened batters-eye area in centerfield. When you saw it happen, you were like "OMG - never saw that before."
A real champion always comes through
I saw Reggie in old Arlington Stadium in 1973 hit 2 three run homer and a single and sac fly. 7 RBI...he signed autographs for 30 minutes after the game. Back then Reggie was a really approachable guy and always had time sign a baseball for a kid. He loved the adoration
You keep throwing the ball down the middle to Reggie Jackson, he's going to CRANK it!
Best mistake hitter ever? I remember when he signed with the Yankees for 400,000 a year. Biggest deal ever and we could not believe it!

I turned 17 in Sept of 1977. My family had moved to Colorado where there was no MLB team yet. Born in the Bronx, I was and still AM a Yankee fan. Always will be and Reggie was THE MAN! He was THE clutch player who had the gift of TIMING! October came and Reggie shifted into high gear with a level of focused intensity very few in any sport have ever acheived. Love you Reggie!!!
I'm a Pirates fan, but Reggie was one of my favorite players back then. I love the fact that this unbelievable performance was broadcast by Howard Cosell, who as usual, captured the history perfectly.
I was 16 when I saw this live and like everybody else was blown away, especially all of them off first pitches from three different pitchers. By the time Reggie got to slowballer Charlie Hough it seemed another huge blast would be a foregone conclusion. Then he hit it deep and it was emphatic! There are just some days when everything clicks perfectly and Reggie had one of them, it was awesome. Still to this day one of the greatest athletic feats in sports history.
Watched this happen in 1977. Incredible performance.
Love the person and the ball player of Reggie Jackson! Fantastic moment for baseball and God bless everyone
I wish I would've been old enough to have appreciated this when it happened. What a performance!
Reggie Jackson was the man back then he was built to win the best move by the Yankees back then on signing him they sign a winner, pitchers feared him, i saw all of his big home runs with the Yankees, he comes to the plate with these broad shoulders and big fore arms and that champion smile he help take the Yankees to two world series championship titles back to back whipping the Dodgers both time, how awesome is that.

Absolutely wonderful classic throwback 🤩May 18th happy birthday Mr.October 💎I’m 58 myself today 🎉Thank you for all the wonderful memories Reggie !
I just love the way the players used to wear their uniforms...I watched this game, and i was blown away...
The way Reggie rounds the bases you could imagine him playing linebacker as he did at Arizona State.
From time to time I watch this video to remember the greatness of Reggie. In my youth, I became a fan of the A's in part because of Reggie, and all the other great talent they had. I became a fan of the Yankees because Reggie and Catfish went there. Reggie is, and will always be one of my all time favorite athletes in all sports. He backed up everything he said. He was that was great. I also love the story Ricky tells of Reggie when Ricky, then a kid, would ask Reggie for an autograph.
I'm 54. And watching this makes me feel 7 again. Like if I close my eyes hard enough, I will open them and I will really be back there watching my grandmother's smile at that moment. She loved the Yankees and she loved Reggie. She would always bet a quarter on the game (and a quarter back then was good money, especially for a 7 year old) with me and let me have the Yankees. I'd give about anything to be 7 again for a few moments just to give her a hug again.
