Back in those days the record business for the urban market was an up and coming real big money making BUSINESS. Even with Def Jam, Cold Chilling, Tommy Boy and Loud and Priority etc...trying to push rap to the fore front rap was still behind R&B until Bad Boy changed the game. Puffy showed a blue print that an urban label can have hip hop as well as R&B. Right now R&B is an extinct genre which is sad. R&B records don't do the numbers of hip hop. In order for a singer to blow up they have to be considered pop and be put under that genre. Back in the days Beyonce and Rihanna would be considered R&B. Then hip hop R&b came out. The rap genre started out as a laughing stock with rock and roll artist saying it will just be a fad and rap had an early struggle for notoriety. NOW rap blew up and has become a billion dollar genre BUT sadly it pushed R&B to almost extinction. The business has changed now that you no longer even have to sign a deal anymore so the old school form of record business is extinct
Yep and this so called hip hop is garbage now. The big industry dictates what to play on the radio. They basically decide what the people like for them. Shit is disgusting what they are doing to black culture and it's sick

SuperMarquis32 Irv Gotti said it in the book "Queen's reigns Supreme" , A DVD talking about Danny Diamond's(Marcy project legend) also made the same allegations
Rellenomics101 oh. Jay-Z never came of as a tough guy. He was more like an opportunistic yet intelligent hustler.
SuperMarquis32 I understand that bro, but I never said he was a tough guy. I said a few people in and outside the industry, said he didn't sell drug's. Did he hang with dealer's? Yes!
Rellenomics101 no my comment wasn't demeaning you. I agree with you because Calvin Klein said something similar to what you're saying.
With the heat that Jay is going through now, do you think Dame could be the one who helps him. I know Dame is blackballed now but a partnership with Jay again could really help both.
