It’s not a case of comparison but rather a case of a persons philosophy and way of live being genuinely challenged for the first time in possibly thousands of years with the potential of them actually being proven wrong. Sukuna basically now wants to destroy Itadori and his ideals as to prove himself right in that his way of thinking is the correct one rather than accept the possibility that it’s not the end all be all

He was able to live all his life doing as he told Kashimo, killing and playing with lives to just fill his time endlessly, but in this chapter he explains the reasoning for that. Its because he was never able to understand them, its not just that people never understood Sukuna, its that he never understood them either, their thoughts, ambitions, wishes and will, all of that was just last words of the fallen to him, and he couldn't even tell if they themselves believed it, or if it was a dying breath effort to make themselves feel better.
With Yuji however, their souls were together so much he fully understands everything about him, he knows his will, his wishes and ambitions, he knows how strong they are and how deep they go, this is why he's so peeved, because he knows unlike Kashimo, unlike Gojo, unlike Jogo, he can't take and break down Yuji's ideals, because no matter what he tries, Yuji will get back up until he dies, and if Yuji dies with his ideals unbroken, Sukuna will feel like he lost.
He's straying from his idea that you should kill when you want, destroy what you want and take what you want, and instead focusing all his effort on a clash of will between him and Yuji, he's betraying his own ideals because Yuji has, in Sukuna's own words, changed him since 1000 years ago. This will be the reason he loses, the set up is very clear, it likely won't be a straight "Oh Yuji gets 7000x stronger and kills him", the ideological clash, combined with the fact that Sukuna is very much weaker (it took him a whole chapter to rct a hand lmao, as much as people meme that Gojo and Kashimo didn't do anything but make him stronger, he doesn't have infinite cursed energy, this is a gauntlet to tire the king enough that either they kill him or Megumi can start wrestling for control, Kashimo took his 1 up, and Gojo took a ton of his stamina), will be his downfall

Sukuna is like Toji in the same that Gojo is like Toji, they are characters who represent the idea that supreme confidence in oneself can bring oneself to heights beyond anyone else.
Where they differ though, is that Toji left behind everything, and left the world as nothing but a lingering will. His last act was for the future, almost as a form of repentance for his sins in life.
He lost to Gojo in the end because Gojo was the new "peak", the high he was in completely isolated him to all of the world's woes. He became more than man for that brief time after experiencing the euphoria of ressurrection, something no "man" could hope to understand.
Gojo was different because he knew the consequences of such a life, what happens when you leave behind your friends. When you forget the future, in this case Geto, it may be left for worse.
That's why Gojo lived as he did, as if he were a contradiction. He lived for the future, for the people who he shared the world with. He was misunderstood because no one could hope to understand him, he was almost inhuman.
Sukuna, then, is the apex. He beat Gojo because he only ever considered himself. Whether it be in battle or in life, Sukuna only cared for his own enjoyment. His power comes from an endless hunger, one he is eager to fill whenever possible. Even in the face of someone like himself, the gap between them is astronomical.
Unlike Toji and Gojo, Sukuna forsake humanity for complete isolation from the world (then he got the power to "cut the world"). Past, Present, and Future; to Sukuna, they're all the same.
Nice analysis, lots of food for thought, Hundred.

      @@leonaise7546
Idk about how it was portrayed in the anime, but in the manga curses are typically depicted with black narration boxes, and the dialogue inside them are usually words that were departed by those who died.
For example itadori’s grandpa telling him to save people and that when he dies, he should be surrounded by others.
Or for Maki, her sister mai telling her to destroy everything ( in reference to the zenin clan).
Nanami departing words : Atoha Tanomimasu (which translates to "I leave the rest to you/ You take it from here/ You got it from here"). Words meant to inspire yuji to finish off mahito and the rest of the cursed spirits attacking at shibuya.
Even Toji had a black narration box indicating a curse, from his wife to “Take Care of Megumi, Okay?” which likely inspired him to sell him off to the Zenin clan where he’d be protected and nurtured despite his qualms with the clan because of how they treated him in the past.
These curses act as motivating factors for a multitude of characters to keep moving forward. Throughout the story there have been multiple instances of Yuji pushing through obstacles and tragedy’s because of the curses that have been imparted to him. (Funny how he’s the vessel for the king of the curses but it seems like he’s collecting so many curses himself.)
In the recent chapter Sukuna’s dialogue about how he lives his life which are the same words he even reiterated to Kashimo during their fights, is something that he’s starting to question w/ the recent events.
Funnily enough these same words that summarize sukuna’s whole ideology are depicted in this same black narration box style.
Interesting idea that maybe even self-imposed mindsets and worldviews can be a curse in itself.
One might say that Sukuna’s Self-indulgent personality could be a form of self love and quoting det_critics from twitter, “Love is the most twisted curse of them all -Gojo Satoru.”

I would at most accept an ending where Yuji is the last one left alive at the end of it all, and even then that's kind of unsatisfying. I'm not one for looking deep into stories and picking apart things like this but I like JJK for its characters above all else. I don't want more characters being written out of the story if their death means jack shit

I would also like to point out that one of the many themes jjk portrays is that there is no "good or "evil", no "hero" or "villain", no "right" or "wrong". Everyone is the mc of their own lives, and do what THEY think is right. For Sukuna , killing others is as natural as breathing, while some weakling standing against him is disgusting or "unnatural" to him. For Yuji, it's the responsibilities on his shoulders that he must carry out and give his best in every situation and it's Sukuna that is "unnatural" to him, someone that must die otherwise everyone else will suffer.
For Sukuna, Yuji is the bad guy and for Yuji, Sukuna is the bad guy.
Up until now, Sukuna has always praised the strong and insulted the weak. He even acknowledged the fact that Yuji had gotten much stronger (as of chap. 248).
Sukuna is not the villain of the story because he keeps on killing the main cast and other humans, but because Yuji sees him as a villain. In his own rights, Sukuna is the hero of the story.
Us viewers/readers relate to Yuji as "the hero" because he is a human and has human conscience, and relate Sukuna to "the villlain" because he has no human conscience.
So, even if Sukuna DOES win, it will be a correct outcome. And if Yuji wins..... well then we say "the hero" always wins.

Sukuna has already been described as a calamity. A calamity doesn't win, it simply exists and destroys until it ends. So no, it wouldn't "ruin" anything. The problem with Sukuna "winning" is not what you say it is, it isn't about "selfish vs selfless" (selfish has repeatedly been shown to be superior when it comes to consequences and ability - see Sukuna, Gojo, Mei Mei, etc) or some underlying theme. The problem with Sukuna "winning" is that the story is centered on him, and as long as he is alive and free it isn't over.
The "best ending" in terms of consequences for Sukuna isn't even death, it is imprisonment, as Sukuna has shown throughout the series something akin to a death wish, and the only thing he has actually shown to care about is his freedom until that death.
I think the only ending for Sukuna that makes sense is either getting trapped in Yuji and forced to live out the rest of Yuji's life imprisoned before dying an unremarkable death, or being killed after many losses on the battlefield in a rare moment of vulnerability created with great sacrifice. He is simply too powerful, too intelligent, and too dangerous to be "humbled" or challenged in terms of power.
Best of luck to the students of Gojo, they are gonna need it.

Smalll thing here but @12:50 I disagree with notion that we don’t need to promote selfishness winning in the end.
I’ll keep it brief as possible but everyone is at a different perspective in life and some people just need something to get them moving.
Kinda like Yuji in Shibuya he still has some character development left but at the time as you pointed out todo’s words got him thru that the same can be said for people like sukuna.
More on a personal note but ppl like sukuna and gojo are the reasons I started to better myself as a person they are the reason I took that first step now after I did improve I came to find that they had flaws in that thinking like you pointed out but it’s important to balance selfishness and selflessness.
I got off topic at the end there but while It doesn’t have to be this story it’s important to have new perspectives of old concepts at all times in society or even a reminder how the old concepts.
The world is a living breathing thing and we the inhabitants are the neurons that reinforce it this can be a destructive force or a creative force sometimes you don’t have control of what you are at first but everything has a purpose to put you where you must be but we must find balance in the world.

I dont care about who survives in the end or not. I just feel like ending with Sukuna's victory thematically doesnt make sense.
PS. I would have said the same thing if Gojo beat Sukuna instead(it needs to thematically work for the story to flow)

First off this vid articulated some very interesting ideas and points honestly good job with that. Second, I think your point about people being upset that their self insert character died is very poignant. People want to feel vindicated about Gojo and by proxy themselves. By him defeating Sukuna and proving he is the most powerful. But thematically it didn’t make sense for this selfish vs selflessness ideal. I also believe the key for Yuji and the gang winning will be Yuji disarming his cog philosophy and realizing his self worth as a person alongside his comrades.

In the end it will be Yuji vs Sukuna. Sukuna will kill everybody Yuji knew and love, proving that strength comes from selfishness and a strong sense of self and one’s ideals while ignoring everybody else, putting yourself and only yourself first. Sukuna will think he won and destroyed Yuji ideals and spirit but just as Sukuna said Yujis will/soul is as strong as his and so Yuji will carry everbody that has died will and live for them despite losing them all, gaining strength from selflessness defeating Sukuna proving his ideals is wrong. Strength wise I assume before all the sorcerers die Sukuna will be somewhat weakened and Yuji will be able to use Sukuna technique along with any power he may have gained from consuming the cursed wombs and use of control over the soul he learned from Yukis book, defeating Sukuna. And as we know in JJK nobody reaches their goal and so Yuji will be left by himself and die surrounded by no one.

i believe that yuji will be put in a situation where he is pushed and pushed until he finally abandons the curse that his grandpa placed on him and decides to fight, act and in a broader sense even live the way he wants to (selfishly) which will lead to him to gaining insane amounts of power that will help him defeat sukuna only for him to poetically take sukunas place as the strongest with little to no competition

I dont mind a villain winning from time to time, as that can be a great way to plant possible training arcs and redemption arcs for the main cast
But to me the villains winning all the time does not make an interesting story, it makes a story who is trying way too hard to be interesting while still taking the simplest route on how to ro this, my theory is thats gege akutami saw how successful the shibuya incident was and thought that thats was what the community wanted to see all of the time, but he couldn't have been more wrong, and now there are barely no possible ways for the story to actually have a satisfying ending

There is no narrative indication that this is going to happen. They have set up Yuji, Yuta, and Maki (and potentially Megumi and Gojo if they somehow survive-Gojo at half power because of RCT and Megumi with a full understanding of the 10 shadows) as those who will face Tengen. My speculation is that Sukuna will activate Tengen if things go left or he is near death. So it could end up with Sukuna fighting alongside the new powerhouses.

If Sukuna wins it wouldn’t ruin shit. It would honestly be one of the best endings I’ve ever seen. An anime where the good guys don’t win is an anime ive been wanting to see for a long time, bc the reality is that the good guys don’t always win. Honestly, more often than not it’s the bad guy who always wins. Sometimes the good guys never even had a chance from the beginning, and i think thats how it should be for Sukuna. I mean in a way Gege already kind of set it up to be like that from the beginning. Anybody Sukuna fought was just a game to him, with Gojo being the only exception. If sukuna were to lose, it would have to be Yuji that beats him. That unfortunately means Yuta has to die, which spit seems like it’s gonna happen anyway.

I do like the world being tragic in comparison to more conventional narratives, but at this point idrc if Sukuna dies or somehow wins and goes ahead to fight Kenjaku's mega-curse-thing

Overthinking, Jjk is just all about action, thats the only thing left, the author him self is not intrested in the managa, i feel like the auther just taking revange on the readers for all the pain he went thru because of tham, people here are thinking it would be sakuna who wins or yuji, but what if there is something else? In the end i just want to say, its a action anime/manga, do not overthink, because just like AOT, YOU GOING TO BE DISSOPOINTED BY THE ENDING.

I said this thing before...this manga is not about two sorcerers fighting, its much more than that...its a clash of philosophies....someone said that sukuna doubting himself os a red flag and hes gonna get cooked ..mthays not how it works ...sukuna is still the same ..cruising through life the way he wants...what irritated him was Yuji's ability to contain him and challenge his ideology even though hes just an insect in front of sukuna....sukuna vs yuji is the battle of collectivism and individualism....sukuna is the imbodiment of individualism...he believes in wiping everything out inorder to achieve peak ...yuji on the other hand is the embodiment of collectivism where he thinks about everyone..not caring sbout himself at all...(we have seen instances like yuji not including himself in pact..)..the ideology of yuji is the exact middle finger to sukuna...sukuna sees this thing as a challenge...sukuna has seen what yuji has gone through in shibuya...and afterwards...his nature to keep movong forward despite not being that powerful is what made sukuna say..his soul is undefeatbale....and sukuna takes the challenge to destroy his soul completely...since strength and power wise, no one can touch him....he challenges homself to defeat the soul of yuji itadori... I'll tell you whats gonna happen...this is just my theory...sukuna will kill everyone...and not kill yuji....just to break his soul....hes gonna start by yuta is think....but he'll keep wiping them out...sukuna also said he's sad becoz that sorcerer died ..why?? Sukuna is a hedonist....he believes in things that gives him pleasure...thats it... after gojo death...sukuna has been purposeless ....seeing higuruma potential excited h a bit....he was having the same feeling of excitement...but then higu died...and his boredom and lack of purpose kicked again...also this is my theory but.....same thing must have happened in heian era...sukuna became so powerful that his life became purposeless....no one was there to challenge him...thats why kenjaku came into play..kenjaku knew that no one can actually defeat sukuna....the only way he can get what he wants if someone challenges his ideology...his philosophy of life....thats why kenjaku took back shots inoreder to create itadori..someone who can control sukuna on his body easily despite not having cursed techniques..kenjaku also had his plans but for sukuna...this is what he thought..
