Can you learn a foreign language on your own? Or would you be better off working with a language tutor? It is a fact that most people learning a foreign language on their own, will still be at beginner level several years after they started. That's not to say you're not among the select few that can get by perfectly okay on their own, but since this is not the case in the vast majority of cases, here are the 6 reasons why I think you would benefit from working with a language tutor. This is like a lesson on how to be come a good teacher. But, I do understand what you mean, a personal teacher would help to progress in the right direction Cindy. We do get laps working alone. I do anyway. So, I will not sign off by saying later!!! Thank you for the tips; you are such lovely French teacher. X

    Dear Cindy,
If you have time, it would be great if you could make a series on actual spoken French vs "Book" French. Things like how "il n'y a pas beaucoup" may just sound like "yapabeaucoup" etc. As in English if one is expecting to hear "what do you want to do?" and instead gets "whachawannado?" it can be frustrating.
Thanks for all you do, J

I know what you mean, that’s a great idea! I’ll make a note and get to it as soon as I resume filming, which shouldn’t be too long now 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion!

@@Frencheezi That would be awesome. I think if we know what to expect to hear, we will be able to understand "real" French faster and sound more natural when we speak.
I mean if an English speaker didn't use contractions when we speak, we would just sound ridiculous, like a robot.

I think this is a good idea to have a tutor but I'm way to shy to do this! I think it would make me learn faster if I could be brave enough.
I hope you are feeling well candy, take care xxx😘

thanks for the tips Cindy, and other videos which have already helped with pronunciation and other points. I've lived in France since a year and am still struggling to learn consistently so will consider freeing up resources to get a tutor, in conjunction with a twice weekly evening course at GRETA which should start next week. How often would you recommend for a tutor .. ? All the best, Derek

I highly recommend total immersion if your hire a tutor regardless of your level. And be honest with your tutor about your literacy skills in your native language.
