It sounds like things have gone downhill for the Sheffield Ski Slope over the years.

I hope this doesn't spread cross country or to the Nordic regions.

Poor Sheffield Ski Slope. Poor Sheffield. What a waste.

I had no idea that dry ski slopes were a thing. So sad that it keeps being destroyed.

Such a shame. I stayed on in Sheffield after leaving university in the mid 80s. Loved the unique feel of the city and this particular place was amazing. For a start I had 6 hours of beginner lessons and bypassed all that going straight to intermediate on day 1 of my first ski holiday. But the place genuinely had an air of a resort in its own right - the buildings all set up as lodges with bars, food, ski shop, equipment hire, T bar lift, coach parties and a special atmosphere under floodlights of the array of slopes of varying difficulty. Loads of fun had. Unbelievable that today when there are more paid for experience type entertainments than ever before that this is no longer available.

Regularly walk up there with the dog. Real shame as it was an amazing place and so popular. Sheffield is a fab city that deserves better.

At least they got some use out of it for a few years, they built one in the 70's at kirkby sports centre in merseyside and it was never used as they built it the wrong way round.

I just watched your other video "what sheffielders think of sheffield" and personally as a british guy born and bred in sheffield I will often make jokes about how i hate it but tbh it is a great place, lots of surrounding countryside with beautiful views. plenty of entertainment. the only thing that makes me sad is losing places i remember as a child. The ski village for one is a place i visited a few times. But there is plenty of other places taht are no longer here that i miss.

This all leaves me with a big question: Why? Why was this a target of arsonists, and/or why was it burning on itself/by accident? Things don't just combust.
Was the arson a form of protest or just vandalism? Whyyyy

Yeah, I think we need another video explaining why people set it on fire.

The weirdest story I've heard in a while. You'd think people would leave a ski slope alone; that it would not burn; that authorities would trace the villains; or that proprietors would add security measures (as their insurers would no doubt insist). Then again, there used to be a restaurant in my town that had a kitchen fire every few months and everyone was convinced of foul play. So I guess Sheffield can be that one place where ski slopes are prone to spontaneous combustion.

I had to look up what a fly tipper is. In the US, we just call them litterers. Someone with a sense of humor registered a domain just to make a joke. That's awesome. I worked for AOL in the late 90s. I used to prank coworkers by making a screen name like SorryYoureFired and message them, "Clean out your cubicle and leave your badge with security on your way out. Take care, now." What a strange thing. I imagine the first couple of arsons were by the same person but then people probably just did it to keep the story going. What a strange place.

Great video! Very interesting and well made. The only thing that is not top notch is visual quality but I would say it's (paradoxically) the least important part of the video, especially that editing is very good so it's still pleasure to watch.

I hope that the arsonists haven’t won - hopefully it can rise up out of the fly tipping !

That's really a shame. Vandals or now kids of original vandals continuing on the tradition of wrecking things for a joke. An off beat interesting story. 👍⛷
