Paul needs to oppose it, knowing it'll be carried.
    Hyperbole of the finest quality.

    Drop Westminster.
    They shafted the Unionists.

Could you please advise people in Northern Ireland where we are going to find ten billion pounds from? Not just this year, but next year, and the year after that. We are not in an economic position to ditch Westminster. Subvention is an unwelcome reality - but even unwelcome realities are realities nevertheless.

@jvbt331 Yes Mate, this certainly brings reality back to base.
I heard an economist once state, Northern Ireland couldn't survive one day without subvention, which makes the Jurisdiction pointless.
The solution is as clear as day mate to us outsiders.

@Somerset-uf2nw The problem with that logic is that, if applied, all countries would start to cut off parts of their own jurisdictions that were economically falling behind - with no regard for the democratically expressed wishes of locals. Should Italy get rid of Sardinia because it's an economic drag on Milan? Should Spain get rid of Andalucía or Extremadura because it's a net-drain on Madrid? Should Turkey relinquish sovereignty over most of Anatolia for the same reason? What about France pulling out of le Massif Central? Or Germany withdrawing from the (once upon a time Socialist) East Germany? Transylvania is a huge burden on the taxpayers of Bucharest. Ionia is financially holding the people of Athens back. The Rif region of Morocco is decades behind Rabat at Casablanca. Developing rural China is costing Beijing and Shanghai an arm and a leg. The so-called fly-over states in the US are economically lightyears behind the coastal states. Lower Egypt foots the bill for Upper Egypt. Java subvents most of the rest of Indonesia. Northern India is wealthier than southern India. Outside Nairobi and Mumbassa, Kenya is losing hundreds of millions each year. Closer to home, GDP per capita in Northern Ireland is lower than the UK average. But it's comparable with Wales and NE England, and yet I have yet to hear anybody advancing the idea that London should sever ties with Swansea and Tyneside. Is Scotland being "held back" by the weight (and costs!) of the Highlands and Islands? Similarly, over the border, Counties Donegal, Mayo and Leitrim are net-beneficiaries of the Irish tax system - I didn't hear any political party in the ROI's general election last month (Dec 2024) suggest chucking them out of the house with their tails between the legs.
Either we are democrats or we are not. Either we accept that it is the freely expressed democratically demonstrated will of the majority of the population of this part of the archipelago to stay in the UK or we force them, against their democratically expressed will, into a constitutional framework that they have repeatedly and consistently opposed. But we can't have it both ways. We can't seek to uphold democracy only when it suits us.

@jvbt331 Now you understand the Irish Natives on the Island of Ireland.
They never received their Vote in 1921, the Six Counties ie, 2/3rd of Ulster was completely annexed off, without the consent of the Majority of the Irish People on the Island.
If immigrants in every Country had this entitlement, simply to draw an Artificial Line around where they congregate in any country, and then annex it as an Artificial Majority, there wouldn't be a Nation in the World.
Those double Standards keep haunting us.

@@jvbt331 A majority of Northern Ireland's MLAs have voted to retain the WF/NIP. That is democracy.
