The variations in science fiction are huge & interesting in themselves. The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin is a story of economic dichotomies. Voyage from Yesteryear by James Hogan is similar in theme but vastly different in detail. Hogan wrote hard SF. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyage_from_Yesteryear Since The Dispossessed was from 1974 there is no influence from the microelectronic revolution. But VfY is from 1982 and Hogan knew computers so the future society cut off from history is more realistic. However in the real world that we must live in we have technology but are stuck with the dead hand of history.
this is such a fantastic resource! thank you :)

It’s a bit like North and South Korea, two worlds so different and opposed yet so close
