question: why my kicks are weaker compared to songs by kendrick or drake , do they follow the -12 rule on the kick or do they limit it with -0.01 and also send it to parallel compression to fully brink it up in the mix .... or they simply mix the kick at -12 and everything else except vocals snare and bass goes way down to -18 i would guess... HELP :S i m confused
I don’t think that -12 thing is followed. Watching the engineers who work on those songs the don’t have a set rule usually. It’s just different every song. But for kicks to stand out you need room for it. If there is a 808 that is balancing thing. Then in you master how you limit and bring up all level will also affect the sound.
