Shaolin monks was their best spin off and I wanted more
They were gonna make one called Fire and Ice with Sub and Scorp as the main characters but backed out for unknown reasons.
Fire and Ice was in initial development but the studio closed down there are actually screenshots of a few pre level design images look it up
I'd like them to retry this particular game now. Neatherrealm would blow it out of the park these days. Then do a Shaolin Monks/Mythologies type of game. That way they won't get burned out on fighting games.
Remember seeing this is magazines thinking it looked amazing. Never found it in stores, years later I saw it mentioned and learning it was terrible.. guess I didn’t miss out on much.. but could be cool seeing MK branch out today with higher budgets

Mortal Kombat at the point where they should be able to make a great spinoff game. Just about every character would be interesting as the lead in different ways
Judging by how they keep rebooting every game since MK9 back to the vent of 2D Era MK1to3 game its better they don't make spin offs.
I played this game back on the PS1 and I think I reached the first boss level and then quit after that because of how horrendous the controls and camera angles were.
I thought I played every MK spinoff.. but strangely I've never even heard of this one.
Good, its not worth playing either. The controls are wanky, the enemies ai is really bad, the story is not canon.
In all my years playing the MK games, the only game I never played or owned was MK: Special Forces. It never appeal to me when it was new. And judging from past reviews & research, I don't think I really missed much, aside from the introductions to a few Black Dragon members...
Mortal Kombat really needs another game that's not just a fighter, hell I'd even take a MK Kombat Kart game at this point just try some new shit with the franchise ya know. 😏

No, Special Forces was just a mess with the worst version of Jax where he rides a pimp mobile, wears a durag and underwear outside his pants and say "aww yeah" and "looking good" in VERY fruity way.

John Tobias leaving Midway during the game's development is what made special forces become a bad game
Also, Jax is a really mediocre character. Like he is every generic military dude with metal sleeves.

I loved the MK games at the time this came out but had zero interest in Special Forces, Jax has always been a boring character

I think it's just "cool" to say this game sucked. Sure, it wasn't the best, but play it if you haven't. It's fun.
