Watching an episode of Hey Arnold saved my life. It was a valentine episode and Helga was choking on a piece of chocolate and did the self heimlich. About I week later I was eating steak in my room alone and started choking and I remembered watching Helga do it and it worked! I saved myself! Cartoons can save lives!
TIFU by listening to a story and following instructions. I was sitting with my girlfriend on the balcony listening to the choking story. As rslash started to give us instructions, I started following the self heimlich routine on auto pilot, not thinking about where it would lead me. When it final reached the last point, I sharply palmed my fist sitting below the sternum. My girlfriend looks at me as I lurch forward and make a face akin to that of "oh God what the fuck did i do" and because she was listening in with me she quickly realised what had happened and just lost it.

Put your fingers around the thumb of your dominant hand, place the thumb bump just above the belly button, grip the opposite side of your first with your other hand. PUSH HARD FAST AND SHARP. If doing it to someone else, place one of your feet between theirs and stand straight. Never do this to someone who is coughing, it could get fully lodged. Get them to cough first.
What concerns me is the fact the girls said her dog “when to live on a farm” before they moved. Does that mean the parents put the dog down just because they didn’t want to take it with them?? That pisses me off so much. People like that don’t deserve animals if they treat them like disposable property they don’t want anymore.

I've had so many scary moments where I wasn't incapable of breathing but I couldn't swallow whatever food was going down my throat. Like I remember I was going to this awesome Mexican restaurant with my dad and I couldn't eat anything because there was something just absolutely lodged on top of a bubble in my throat so I was breathing shallow through a tiny gap in the food barrier.
I had a terrifying experience when I had some pork stuck with some hot sauce stuck in my throat and it just wouldn't go down. Starting coughing up blood and my entire throat was burning. I had to run into the bathroom to try and force it out. A nasty, scary experience. I'm in the UK so free health care but if you have trouble swallowing, it might be worth visiting your GP.
Reminds me of the time I went all day without eating due to being very busy all day and I went out to eat with friends at 10pm and drank 2 large margaritas on an empty stomach. My behavior was classless and I apparently grabbed somebody’s drink who I didn’t even know and proceeded to stick my fingers in it and lick them. I’m still ashamed.
I'll never understand parents lying about a dead pet. My parents were always open with me when a pet died, and, well, I cried, it hurt, and I eventually grew and got over it. Now, not every kid will be the same, that's a given, however, it is good to learn to cope as a kid before something and someone even more important passes.

But I used to walk from my elementary school to my "aunt"(family friend)'s house after school. One day, I was eating a jawbreaker, a medium sized one. You know, one thats JUST BIG ENOUGH to lodge inside a throat? Yeah, that size. I did something and somehow I swallowed the jawbreaker, and it ended up stuck in my throat. and I, a tiny child, started freaking out and choking of course. My cousin who was there(she's like.. 2/3 years older than me) started panicking because she couldn't figure out what was wrong as I choked in front of her. Literally the only thing that saved me was the excitement of my mom arriving to pick me up. I bent over and slammed my chest so hard I bruised a couple ribs and was able to cough up the stupid jawbreaker. That was probably the closest I'd ever seriously come to dying(though I definitely had some close calls otherwise). You don't ever really forget the feeling of choking and being so desperate to breath. I remember that feeling perfectly.

That was probably the closest I'd ever seriously come to dying(though I definitely had some close calls otherwise). You don't ever really forget the feeling of choking and being so desperate to breath. I remember that feeling perfectly.
