  • *** YOU MUST CONTACT SULU PROVINCIAL TOURISM BEFORE THINKING OF TRAVELING TO THIS PART OF THE PHILIPPINES.
    I joined up with my good friend from the DOT (Department of Tourism) Usec Myra Paz, and headed for Sulu. This is my journey to the last Province I haven't visited in the Philippines. Starting on a coast guard boat, we end up spotting an unbelievable sight... WHALES! This was surreal, and so beautiful seeing two swimming so gracefully off the coast of Basilan. Aftre a 6 hour boat ride, we arrive in Jolo, Sulu, and visit the Provincial Capital to talk with the tourism office and Governor.
    Then... it is off to explore the Province!
    In this video, we get to experience an amazing Tausug lunch, find ourselves witnessing beautiful artistry and a stunning beach side sunset in the Municipality of Parang.
    Sulu has had some incredibly difficult times in the past with extremism. But certainly it is on its way to becoming a place for tourism. I am so excited for the future of this place!

      Since Kulas is already a Filipino citizen, he can become a national hero for leading the effort to change the badly tainted image of the region from terrorism. Nobody has done such tremendous effort, even the tourism board can't do it alone. It is indeed a heroic act regardless if he do it for personal interest or not.

If not for him this place remains a scary place for the residents there as well as for tourists both local and international. With their airport being done, it's now faster and more accessible to get there. Another hidden gem in the PH and their food looks amazing! We should visit Sulu and help boost their tourism 😊

    What I'm struck by the most is how similar Sulu is to the rest of the Philippines. The innate hospitality and the lack of camera-shyness. The tricycles. The way the streets look. The cleaning of the graves. The bangkas. The white sand beaches. Even the kids playing and following around.
    There are striking differences, like the main course food (which look delicious), the sunduk markers, the giant mosque instead of a cathedral, the embroidered (rather than woven) patterns on the clothing. But overall, it doesn't feel as strange as I thought it would be in my prejudiced mental image of Sulu. I really really hope someday, the conflicts end for good, and people can freely visit without fear.

    Sulu is absolutely breathtaking. Probably even rivals Palawan and Boracay. It's a huge shame that terrorism is hindering it from realizing its true potential. That white sand is phenomenal. As someone who has only went as far as Visayas, I'm hoping for more good things to come for Mindanao so that the next decade would be their time to shine.

      @@Blairezz98 Flare ups still happen here and there so vigilance is important. However, I could probably compare the security situation to how Manila was during the Rizal day bombings. That is, it's generally safe with heightened vigilance and security alerts.

    • @Blairezz98
      @Blairezz98 2 месяца назад

      @@rhyanjill Nah. It's gone. People who talk negatively about Mindanoa these days are only generating unnecessary fear. In 2024, I would feel safer in Sulu and Manila than in NYC or any parts of America where there's shooting here and there. And needless to say vigilance is a must wherever you go. It does not only apply to the Philippines.

    • @rhyanjill
      @rhyanjill 2 месяца назад

      @@Blairezz98 I would say it's definitely safer than NYC since the Americans foolishly welcomed illegals who hated them while weakening their police powers and passing ridiculous laws that decriminalizes a lot of criminal behavior. That said, I would still insist on comparing it to Manila during after the bombings, given what recently happened in the Mindanao State University in 2023. It is safe, but with heightened security alert. And that's the difference. NYC has weak law enforcement so a minor crime becomes dangerous while Mindanao has terror threats but law enforcement makes it safer.

    Congrats on finally completing 81 provinces, man. You finally did it.
    Also, those whales looked majestic. I initially thought that they were Blue Whales when you posted pictures on facebook but looking at in this vlog, they look like a different species; probably Bryde's or Fin Whales. All three species can be found in Philippine waters. Whatever those whales are, they seem to belong to the Balaenoptera genus, which is the same genus the three aforementioned whales belong to.

    I Went there in Sulu 2 weeks ago and the beaches there are amazing but what's more amazing is the two beaches we visited(Sani-sani andTanduh) are just only a few of them. Sulu is definitely worth the long travel.
