- Thea Gilmore performs ‘She Speaks In Colours’ to Delyth Raffell and family.
The song was written by Thea as part of 21st Century Folk, Radio 2’s series that sees five people have songs written about their lives.
Delyth’s daughter Ellen passed away in 2019 at the age of 16, after suffering an allergic reaction. The family have been inspired by Ellen’s young life to run a charity, Ellen’s Gift of Hope, which helps children facing challenges in the North East of England.
To hear Delyth’s full story, find 21st Century Folk on BBC Sounds: www.bbc.co.uk/...
Filmed at the Woodhorn Museum, Ashington, Northumberland.
Maybe this will go someway towards a bigger audience discovering this woman's unique and beautiful gift.
Totally agree
Totally agree as well met her amazingly talented and beautiful song.x
Heard this on Mark’s folk show when I was driving up to Glenshee. In many ways it’s a relaxing peaceful piece but also heartbreaking when you know the context. If the family are here I’m sorry for your loss, and I’m sure Ellen would be immensely proud of your strength and proud of Thea for this amazing piece.
This song will live on for the rest of time now. A beautiful piece. Thanks to radio 2 for this chance to glimpse into the lives of others.
Jesus ! I would recommend this song to anyone but this live version is the best she is outstanding!
Such a beautiful and moving song, and a wonderful tribute to Ellen - wow. The whole R2 series was an inspired idea. Congrats to all who took part.
Quality from start to finish, I feel I've actually got some value from the t.v. licence.
In was moved to tears by this beautiful song , and by the sad reason for its creation. The loss of such a young person is beyond cruel. I hope that Ellens family realise , although we don’t know each other , they are in our thoughts. Thea captures the moment , as always ❤️🙏.
This is purely an outstanding and emotional tribute to a young lady. Fantastic song. Bloody well done xx
A beautifully written song, performed flawlessly and a moving tribute to Ellen and her family.
Best meaningful song I have Heard in years the first time I heard it was on Jeremy Vine BBC 2 Very amazing song.
I discovered the whole BBC project a few weeks ago and found this song to be my musical goosebumps and something-in-the-eye moment of the year. Great idea, BBC, great work, artists and love and best wishes for the new year from Germany to all those silent heroes these songs are about.
