OMG last night, my daughter pulled the conversation card at dinner. She asked "what's something you'd go back in time and tell yourself." Maybe I'm just not over it, but my first thought was "I'd go back to the day I got my braces off and tell myself to put my retainer away because soon, your dog will chew it up and you'll take the money to buy concert tickets instead of replacing it and in 25 years you'll have to get braces again!"
I am really loving this series! As someone who tends to vacillate between extremes, this is helping me to practice consistent small steps. Thank you! Also, I love your triumphant sound after every decluttering victory! It's become my sound too. I hear it in my head after small victories.
LOL! My son's orthodontist actually asked us if we had dogs. When we answered yes, she told us that for some reason some dogs are just drawn to these and will chew on or even eat them! So YES, it IS a thing. She even warned us that they some dogs are SO persistent that my son should put it in the container AND a drawer, otherwise, it was very likely the dog might get it 😆
Well, despite testing positive for Covid last night, I’m having a low symptom load so I sprang into action to get this done today. My bedside table is not cluttered BUT, the large jewelry box that sits on top of it hasn’t been sorted in years (literally). I cleaned it up and tossed a good number of items - maybe 15-20 - and set some aside to go to the donation box - maybe another 25-30. Sounds like a success to me! Thanks Cas, I’m staying in the game!
... My bedside table used to be a problem. Then I replaced it with a small three legged stool. Now it holds... One lamp. Also, my charger cable lies at its foot. That's it. I charge my phone lying on the foot of the lamp. Feeling very proud of myself right now 😎
I’ve been wearing a mouthguard religiously for 20 years. This habit works for me…. The second I get out of bed I walk to the bathroom, put it in its case with a denture tablet and add water. Put it in the closet and it’s there when I get ready for bed that night. (I have two large dogs who would also eat it if I left it out)
I have a mouth guard too. When my Dentist recommended it the first thing he asked was do you have a dog? I thought it was a strange question and I asked him why he wanted to know. He said because dogs love to eat mouth guards. I don’t have one. L O L Love this series
I never have and never will touch my wife’s “stuff”. We are both 60yrs and have been married for 24yrs. I have enough to do with decluttering my crap. I can only hope that she sees how much better I feel with having less crap to deal with every day. Thank you Cas for helping me.
My wife(45+) had cataract surgery last year. We opted for the "expensive" lenses that act similar to tri-focals. $5000 an eye! TOTALLY WORTH IT! First time she hasn't needed glasses since the fourth grade. We just got rid of 8 reading glasses, and 4 old pair of glasses from off her bedside table. Drawers hide a lot! (Not to mention the ones off her desk, and our bathroom counter, and the emergency ones in the vehicles...)
My furbaby pup chewed up my hubby’s hearing aids. Didn’t eat them, just chewed them up, proudly showed me the pieces in his bed and then begged for a treat. 🐶
6 items out plus lots of trash. I have a drawer and a cabinet and I found 3 different half-used bag of coin rolls. Who needs all that?! The worst of it- I found one of the kids' baby teeth in my drawer! (my youngest is 16 so it's been hanging out there for a while) Obviously I have been neglecting this space. Thanks for the motivation, Cass!
I'm seriously decluttering. My 3rd load is going out for pickup tonight and I'm still adding to it with these challenges. I've come to realize that space and order is more satisfying than keeping things just in case. Loving my home again.
My dog jumped up onto mine yesterday and knocked everything on the floor. I took that as the opportunity to declutter! So do I get a day off decluttering today? 🤔 😊

I didn’t think I would but I did find five things, and they were not even garbage. 10 days and still going strong. I enjoy this little declutter game. We all have already said goodbye to 50 items all together. 🎉
I love this series. Just a few days before this series started I had already decluttered my closet. On the days Cass was decluttering her closet I thought there is no way I have any pj's, socks or underwear to declutter, but I went and looked again. Sure enough I was able to get rid of 2 more pj bottoms, 2 pair of underwear and a half dozen pair of socks.
Boy have I needed to declutter my bedside table! I added a tray table to my bedside because my night table was so cluttered. Not only is the tray table back in the kitchen where it belongs but my actual night table is decluttered as well. I tossed more than 5 things but only took 15 minutes and I’m done. Great way to start my morning.
I have retainers that I wear at night. I keep the container in my bathroom in the drawer with the toothpaste. After I brush my teeth, I put in my retainers. Every morning I take them out put them back in the container. No dogs go in my vanity drawers! ❤
This is a good one!!! I got off track over the weekend, but caught up yesterday. Done with all or nothing thinking! ADHDer here embracing doing things crappy 😂❤
My brother’s dog didn’t eat my daughter’s retainer, but she did rescue it from the garbage and but it in her doggy bed because someone had thrown it out because it was wrapped in a paper napkin and they thought it was garbage. The dog saved my a few hundred dollars. I loved that dog even more after that.❤
Hubby's bedside table. No decluttering there. 3 items all day every day. He would prefer fewer, but the TV remote _must_ stay on his bedside. It would be lost forever if it fell into mine. 😂 😳
I bought mouthguards for my husband to stop snoring. They help, WHEN he uses them! Regardless, he is now more aware and courteous . 😮 Maybe you can store your guards inside a drawer or closer bin to stop your doggie from thinking they are chew toys! 😮
It took me a couple weeks to get there but I have kept my bedroom dresser & nightstands clear since 2022! My bedroom used to be the dumping ground until I decided it would no longer be. I’m proud of myself for staying up on it daily - it makes a huge difference in my mood at bedtime and also when I wake up. My son loves relaxing in my room because it’s free of clutter, which for the first 45 years of my life, would never have been true. All thanks to Cas! Through her, I heard about Dawn & Dana and then everything changed! Cas, you are changing lives! Keep up the good work!
Great series, Cas! I am loving these tiny victories each day even when my daily schedule is already jam-packed with all the things I already have to do. Thanks so much!
Im at day 10 in one day. And 8 bags of stuff is gone. I feel so relieved. I couldn't believe, how many things I found in every section, because I thought I decluttered already before enough. Im so happy now and so thankful to you Cas.
Cass, I so look forward to our decluttering time together every day. It is amazing what gets done in 5 minutes! I am loving the cumulative feel good vibes I am getting from making all of this progress!!
Ok so I watched this thinking I don't have anything beside my bed but I will look anyway. I found 10 things including a booklet from 2011. This series is truly motivating. Thanks Cas.
I first heard about you 5 days ago, but I decided to join the challenge and almost catched up! Got rid of old earplugs, empty medicine boxes, a water bottle and some other random junk. I'm going to put some nice shoes I never wear on sale today. Feels so good!
You did it Cas! You dragged me out of my rut of not keeping up with decluttering!! I’m not always doing the same areas as you but I’m back on track with the 5 minutes a day! Thank you!!!!!
6 things. 2 scrap paper, 2 pins, and the pencil case and calculator from my Masters I got in 2013. Time to release that stuff to someone who will currently use them.
I didn't have anything to declutter but I ordered a bedside table. And that is a good thing too. Till now I hardly decluttered anything but what I do is organizing, cleaning and making the area better when possible. Thanks for the challenge! I like it!
Been there with the chewed night guard - TWICE! Needless to say I now don't take it out until I get to the bathroom. Thanks for the always funny stories!
Ready? On your mark, get set, let's declutter! 🎉 Jewelry, medicine, one lost used ear plug, two dirty tissues...... I try to trash them every day but I sometimes fail... honestly I don't know how to make it better for now. My husband is always picking on me for my used tissues, I found a way in my office: I placed a small trash can with lid that I empty when it is full. I have the habit to use it more than once (when I only have a quick dry sneeze, I feel like I should use the other clean half in the next couple hours... grew up in poverty and my mother had that habit to save money), am I a weirdo? 🥳Probably! Am I alone? I don't think so! Any thoughts friends, please? 🙏 Anyway, I successfully declutter and deep clean my bedside table about once every month, and that is a good achievement. But I wonder if I should do it every week... if I can find the power to do it. I will ask the ADHD god about that! 😅
I'll use a tissue more than once but don't want them piling up. Put a little trash can or some type of container on/under/behind your bedside table. My dad used 2 tissue boxes on his side table. The second wasn't a backup supply, it was an emptied one used like a little trash bin for used tissues.
@@JILLCritterologist yes I may put a trash can there too, like in my office. Cats like to play with tissues boxes so I will use a trash can with a lid!
I'm running behind, but caught up over weekend -- bedside table is complicated with CPAP -- but progress is happening. This is an excellent approach for recovery period after hand surgery -- nothing too heavy, nothing too hard to do one-handed -- an it really improves the house. Thank you.
I now have a small bamboo tray on my bedside table for my glass of water, some night pills etc. Also found this nice "bed folder" that you slip one side under the mattress, so it stays in place. I put my book, glasses and phone there. Super practical. I think Penny is just trying to see if the mouth pieces fit her! ...nope, maybe next one?! 😆😅🐶
We keep mouthguards behind a bathroom cabinet door so no problem there, however, our male dog has a sock obsession so they cannot be left out or they will end up with holes. He also takes a toy with him every time he goes outside, lays it down and goes about his business. Our other pooch is obsessed with catching lizards outdoors as if it is her prime mission in life. She also goes crazy with excitement when we spray the backyard hose and wants to be right in the middle of the spray. One of them did crunch my eye-glasses as a puppy shortly after I purchased them.
My cat dumped everything on the floor in one jump. It was time to declutter the top of my side table. He forces me to keep it simple. I am away from home at the moment. I can't wait to get back home and go through the 3 drawers of my side table while playing this video again and again. Thank you!!!!🎉
I leave a bottle of meds out. I have to take one at night and one in the morning. And I have foot cream, lip balm, a box of tissues. My glasses… my side table is starting to look like my grandmas. Lol
Your dog is not the only one. I used to have a dog growing up who would chew up my mouth guards and also my friends. What worked best was putting the mouth guard up in the medicine cabinet. Someplace up high definitely! But the medicine cabinet or somewhere in the bathroom up high is best so you can take it out right before brushing teeth.
Ohhh, expensive puppy! I thought mine was bad - she ate one pair of progressive glasses (but not the glass, thankfully) and a pair of Birkenstocks (not the buckle), some flooring, the edge of my sofa and some other furniture, some drywall, and a few towels and clothes, but she has settled down now, after two years. I hope yours does too! Those first couple of years can be VERY expensive. Oh, and P. S., I did give her the expensive chew sticks (collagen chews, bully sticks, nylabones, etc.) but she preferred the other items! P. P. S. I love how you have broken this big, overwhelming job into little easy tasks. It just seems so do-able now. I don't know what took me so long!
The mouth guard story is so relatable because my dog will eat my husband’s ear plugs if he leaves them on his nightstand. He had to start putting them on the bathroom counter in a little tray. I know they make denture holders so maybe try 1 of those for the mouth guard. I’m loving the 30 day decluttering videos. Thanks Cas for sharing and helping so many of us.
Here I am! Day 10. I was out all day ( unusual). I just watched this video. I am tired. So, I have two bedside tables one on each side of the bed. So, being tired I managed to get one completely done, cleaned and put back what was needed. Tomorrow, I will be home all day and I will do the other one, plus day 11 thing. I am 71 so I need a little grace here Cass.
Hey, remember, it's not a "do the task completely" challenge. It's "Find FIVE things that will leave your home (trash or donate)." And only work for 5 minutes -- set a timer, or replay the day's video while you work. When the 5 minutes are up, put things in the trash, put away items that live elsewhere, and you're DONE. The second table can wait for another day. The space will look better than it did! I'm already thinking I should start the 30 days again on October 1.
Geez, this was the hardest one yet! I have a bedside table with drawers…full of books and religious books at that….ugh! So hard to let them go. And my husbands bedside table is full of crap he loves to use to try to get me in the mood😂😂. We have the angel 😇 on one side and the little devil 😈 on the other side! 😂😂😂
Cass thank you so much for this challenge. We’re 1/3 through and I feel like I accomplished so much already! Although most of the stuff was hidden clutter behind doors (pantry, fridge, dresser drawers, nightstand, etc) just knowing that those spaces are better is so motivating and I feel like I’m actually making progress! So thank you so much for making this 30 day challenge! I really enjoy looking forward to the 5 mins each day
I keep my 2 retainers in my medicine cabinet in the bathroom. I only wear them at night while I sleep, so I brush before bed and then put my retainers in while I’m in the bathroom. I return the case to the medicine cabinet and then in the morning, I return the rinsed off retainers to the case where they sit safely the entire day. At night, I soak my retainers in a cleaning bath and brush them while I’m brushing my teeth. And the process begins all over. I also find this helpful when you are wanting a late night snack, because “you can’t”…unless you want to go through the cleaning process again🥴 I don’t know if this would help you, but it’s a perfect system for me!❤
This is my third five minute declutter today. I am catching up. I have removed 30 items. I had pins, jewelry, paper (included receipts), a shoehorn, eyeglass case , some boxes and a small souvenir bank. And it was easy to hide them all because I have drawers. I am really enjoying these five minute declutters. Cass I am really liking the end stories always have❤
Our dog ate my mouthguard and then my mom was visiting us and I'd put my new replacement one in a clear measuring cup by the sink (with a denture tablet) and she dumped it in the garbage disposal and ground it up! Now I leave the guard in until I brush my teeth and then I put it in the container, clean it in the container and put that in a plastic box in my drawer!
I’m on your paid for course I’m watching the replays of you decluttering different areas my house is getting so much better after decluttering for years there’s still things I’ve held on to and your videos have given me permission to let go and put things in the trash!!! Thank you so much ❤
My friend's dog also tried to eat my retainer at a sleepover in the 5th grade but thankfully he never made it through the case! Gotta keep them in a drawer, opposable thumbs for the win
Before opening your Day 10 video, I spilled a bit of coffee on my bedside table, and cleaned it out to wipe the coffee spot!!! Then opened the video! Kismet! LOL!
I saw the title and checked my bedside table before I watched the video. I can't Believe I actually found more than 5 things to throw away! My drawers were mostly empty to begin with
Yep. We were told by the orthodontist YEARS ago. that dogs love retainers. Has something to do with the saliva. We lost a few and the kids learned to never leave them where the dog could get them. PUT THEM AWAY. :)😊
I opted for cheap mouthguards. My routine is to leave them in my mouth until I get to the bathroom, where I then drop them in a mason jar. I have 4 mouthguards, so when all 4 are in there I drop in a denture tablet and water to clean them. I have 2 cases. I like having this rotation system...clean ones go in the bedroom in a case, but if I were you I think I would use a mason jar for the ones in the bedroom. They do make one-piece mason jar lids, if that makes it easier. Depends on if just the mason jar itself would do enough to keep the dog away.
Just start tomorrow with the Day 11 challenge... at the beginning of October, go back and do days 1-10. Yes, it's looking a little better around here, 1 area at a time, but I think the real value of this challenge is in building a new habit of doing just a little bit every day. I'm in the midst of some major "take my house back" decluttering also, but if I can get in the habit of doing 5 minute decluttering tasks, I'll be able to keep my house in its new (hopefully) decluttered and organized state! (Hope springs eternal.)
OMG! I'm late on this task because I thought I had recently done it. Apparently not. I found an envelope from 2021 with $$$ in it! I knew what it was from because I wrote on the envelope. I never keep cash in that drawer (but apparently I do?) I had totally forgotten about it. Decluttering WIN! Now I'm really stoked to see what else I might find in random places. Thanks, Cas!
I have reading glasses in every room, including bathrooms, and I have a pair in every purse as well as my cars. Quite frankly I think a trip to the eye doctor is called for!😊
I recommend an end table with drawers. Unless your pet opens drawers you should be fine. Plus you get to clear off your end table and make your room look less busy.
That noise you make is cute. It also reminds me of Tia of One Pack Wanderers. She is adorable too! YES to the reading glasses EVERYWHERE!!!! I think I truly have around 30 pairs of them in my home, car, bags, bedside table, bathroom and craft area. Oh yeah, and in my friend's car! Can you believe I still have times when there are no reading glasses near me when I need them! Have to buy another pair! People, don't take your eyes for granted LOL.
Hmm… this old lady has had 3 of the best dentist in the universe - I absolutely love these guys. I’ve, also, had a lifelong habit of grinding my teeth (even during my waking hours) & none have ever suggested a guard, not even the dentist that I dated a few years ago.
I've developed a shopping addiction. I have more clothes jewelry and shoes that I could ever wear in one lifetime! My bedroom looks like a darn warehouse! I'm trying to grab 5 items a day I know I'll never wear and donate ! It hasn't been easy "maybe I'll wear this someday" but my sister found a place on her way to work that takes donations for an abused women's shelter. It has been life changing for me. I've always wanted to donate my new & lightly used items I know darn well I'll never wear. And if it's something I'm struggling with, I say to myself 'who will appreciate this more, me or someone trying to rebuild their life" and that has made it so much easier to get rid of stuff ! Especially when it's new with tags ! These ladies deserve brand new clothing too ! It was because of this 30 day challenge that I got more serious and I'm slowly ( my home is REALLY cluttered lol😭) getting my home back ! My 16 yr old son has also jumped in on the challenge and gets rid of 5 things a day, in his bedroom!
Just for grins I’ve been keeping two running totals throughout the challenge. One with the items I declutter within the challenge and another of anything I declutter outside of the challenge. I’m up to about 250 items on day 10. Only about 30 of those are outside the challenge. The total itself is fun.
I didn't have any clutter on my bedside table, so I cleaned something else and continued decluttering in the kitchen. Looks like I will have lots of bags for the garbage pickup this week.
Oh I needed this challenge today. One of my bedside tables was just horrible. I would always bypass it doing other decluttering challenges because it was overwhelming. I loved that I only had to spend 5 minutes but let me tell you I found lots of stuff to get rid of (as well as tidy), and yes I found two used tissues. Yikes.
Did this without leaving bed! As bin is here and i have shelves drawers at bedside and a veg rack of meds....my daughters mouth guard is free here and she has no dog but my sisters puppy ate my dads glasses once......thankyou
Try seeing a chiropractor! I grinded my teeth for almost a decade until I was pregnant with my first baby and had really bad sciatic pain and my OB told me to see a chiropractor. When I went the initial visit they asked me, basically about my entire life, but one of the questions was did I grind my teeth and of course I said yes. In the first visit, the very first adjustment the Dr did on my neck, it completely fixed the issue, and I haven't grinded my teeth since. It's been 3.5 years and still not grinding my teeth. Totally recommend trying it out!
I have a bunk bed style loft bed. My bf and I made a little shelf to hang off the railing. There are at any time at most three items up there, mostly because I don't allow myself a phone charger up there. So I don't naturally hang out there, but at my desk underneath my bed where the charger is. :))
It would take me an hour to clear off the top of my night stand. That being said, I sat down to listen and spent 10ish minutes clearing out all the receipts that were PILED up. Win.
I would recommend cats to keep your beside table clear 😂😂😂
Yup, mine likes to sit on mine and stare at me so I get up to feed them 😂
😂
Yep, and windowsills!! 😂

A friend’s dogs “ate” two sets of very expensive dentures. Why she didn’t learn to put them after the first set I’ll never understand.
Our orthodontist said that the acrylic material it is made of smells for dogs very attracting.
It took me an hour to declutter and reorganize my nightstand! But I found some money! Lol 😂👍🏾

Yep, me too. Dogs love the smell of a humans mouth (or breath) or anything that involves it, like toothbrushes and retainers.
Our cat loves to carry mine around! I find it in the oddest of places.

Mouth guard & retainers: IN YOUR FACE OR IN THE CASE. That montra has kept my mouth guard and my daughter's retainers safe for years.
You did it Cas! You dragged me out of my rut of not keeping up with decluttering!! I’m not always doing the same areas as you but I’m back on track with the 5 minutes a day! Thank you!!!!!
This has been extremely motivating, I got up this morning ridiculously excited to find out what I was going to declutter today.
6 things.
2 scrap paper, 2 pins, and the pencil case and calculator from my Masters I got in 2013. Time to release that stuff to someone who will currently use them.
great job!
I didn't have anything to declutter but I ordered a bedside table. And that is a good thing too. Till now I hardly decluttered anything but what I do is organizing, cleaning and making the area better when possible. Thanks for the challenge! I like it!
I love this series
So glad to hear that!
Been there with the chewed night guard - TWICE! Needless to say I now don't take it out until I get to the bathroom. Thanks for the always funny stories!
Only four things on my bedside table - three of which need to stay! Easy day :o)
My bf does this tissues too 😂
@@pippipants Yeessss I'm not alone!
Thank you.
Hi Cass! I've done all 10 days and it feels so good! I love the check off list and the short motivational videos every day. Thank you! 🥰
You're welcome!
Could you keep this playlist and Facebook group up next month? It is SO AWESOME. just makes me want to do more every day!
Thank you!!!!🎉
We like the victory trumpet and the funny story, and the encouragement
I have glasses everywhere! Including on top of my head!
Cas, I am loving this series. Thanks for doing this!
You''re so welcome!
I leave a bottle of meds out. I have to take one at night and one in the morning. And I have foot cream, lip balm, a box of tissues. My glasses… my side table is starting to look like my grandmas. Lol
@cjhoward409 😂😆🤣
I have dozens of reading glasses, but they still end up everywhere except where I need a pair! 😂
A couple of years ago, my bedside table was always full of junk. I cleaned it out and decluttered the actual bedside tables. I love it now.
@@JILLCritterologist thank you! This challenge has been so helpful! I can get stuff done, and quit after 5 minutes so good.
I also find this helpful when you are wanting a late night snack, because “you can’t”…unless you want to go through the cleaning process again🥴 I don’t know if this would help you, but it’s a perfect system for me!❤
I got rid of my bedside table last year and have no regrets. I keep alarm clock on my headboard and that's it.
I love this series ❤️
Everyday after decluttering for 5 minutes, my space looks very clean.
I too make your victory sound Cass. Absolutely love it
This is my third five minute declutter today. I am catching up. I have removed 30 items. I had pins, jewelry, paper (included receipts), a shoehorn, eyeglass case , some boxes and a small souvenir bank. And it was easy to hide them all because I have drawers.
I am really enjoying these five minute declutters. Cass I am really liking the end stories always have❤
These five minutes declutters are fun. Thanks Cas! I love your curtains and the little bit of yellow in your white bedding... So pretty. 😊
Ooooh, my bedside table is a wreck. I might be better off burning it and starting over. 😂
Thank you so much ❤
You're so welcome!
Love the little declutter song you sing Cas! My daughter even sings it sometimes😢❤
I love this 5 mins 5 items. My nightstand is a disaster. So this is good for me. Every month 5 mins 5 items.
Glad you like it!
My friend's dog also tried to eat my retainer at a sleepover in the 5th grade but thankfully he never made it through the case! Gotta keep them in a drawer, opposable thumbs for the win
Yes! My mom’s dog ate my mouth guard while I was staying with her, BUT her homeowners insurance covered it! We were pleasantly surprised!
I confess i haven't been following along. But i think ill go back and do it. Yay!
Dog's love that smell! Keep them in a metal case to help. They won't bite metal.
Don't stop making the sound!❤
I have reading glasses in every room, including bathrooms, and I have a pair in every purse as well as my cars. Quite frankly I think a trip to the eye doctor is called for!😊
Lol!
I recommend an end table with drawers. Unless your pet opens drawers you should be fine. Plus you get to clear off your end table and make your room look less busy.
Great series to watch and partake in. Plus a good laugh about the 30 mouthguards😂
I removed dirty tissues, cough drops wrappers, underware that were ripped, and old tags from clothes.
Hey Cass. No bedside table but cabinet in room, 5 things gone. Loving this series.❤❤❤❤
Yes!!! My dog ate part of my mouthguard too! And he is only a little Yorkie.
Yikes.
I soooo relate to Cas! What a help she has been ! Thank you
Did this without leaving bed!
Win.
