This song is about having the mental strength and will power to overcome your own personal insecurities and self loathing. At least that's how I interpret it. Thank you, Disturbed. This song really helps.
It's exactly what it is.
I can relate, in October and November 2021 I made 2 suicide attempts, after having struggled for years with social anxiety, anxiety in general and agoraphobia, as well as porn addiction, all as a result of physical and mental torture in a younger age, which I never really recovered from, and it only grew ever stronger throughout my teenage years and early adulthood, preventing me from actually living throughout that period. I was stuck inside an empty shell, always alone and isolated from others.
Yet, the feeling of always being in danger, always being judged and measured, the sound of a "thousand voices sharing their laughter at my demise"... Now at 25 I've finally decided to start working on it, got some perscriptions, psycho-therapy with a goddess of a woman who knows exactly what she's talking about, I work out, meditate, try to do stuff and fulfill my day, fight my demons and wrong images of the world and myself that I've built over the years... Time to make a change and overcome "this demon of mine."

@@drunkdrag0n Thanks for the support mate. I'll do my best ti grind my way out of this. Even though you're just a random stranger on the internet, the support means a lot. It's nice knowing that you're not alone, that there are others out there who feel the same or at least feel with you and are cheering you on.
@@ragingsaviorkami9862 keep at it. Disturbed got me thru a lot of very rough spots and a few very tight uncomfortable spots. Stay strong brother, your not alone in your fight with the darkness. Just remember not to dwell to long in your thoughts.

Thanks for the support. I'm still going forward. Ever since I started this self-improvement journey, it's like I stepped into unknown or jumped down the rabbit hole, from which there is no return. Only going forward. So I'm pushing worward, day by day. But sometimes I have to dwell on my thoughts so I can analyse them. Only by getting to know this demon which is my ego, can I truly exterminate it. Or better yet, since it's a part of me, I have to make it grow up and change along with me.
The infection is Depression, stress, mindless hatred, anxiety or insanity and self loathing and insecurities the song brings YOU the power to fight it.
Anything that eats you from the inside

As a schizophrenic I'm in tears when I listen to and sing along to this song. It REALLY hits the mark.

This song really changed my life. Depression isn't an infliction I'm trying to survive. It's a monster I have to kill.
Thats very true. i also suffer from depression and some mental illnesses, and i have to fight with my family constantly every day. If I am to kill this "monster" i have to find a way to bring peace in between my family members and be able to be mentally free. This song has also changed my life.
Same M8, ever since my father abandoned me and my wife left me i have been torn apart by depression and anxiety...
But now I'm not afraid to show my true colors to anyone that provokes the inner demon that is my anxiety...

Depression really isn't something you can destroy, but you have to make a peace with it. Its part of you that has made you the person you are.
@@drkn9t If a cancer patient were told to make peace, it would be because they're dying. Don't tell me what makes me as a person. The depression is actively making me worse, and so are presumptuous statements by assholes.
Why no one talks about how amazing the guitar solo is?

my life in a song, it talks about being so consumed by someone or something you forget what life is besides that someone or something is, I say i relate to this because im so consumed by stuff in my house like fighting with my family daily, i forgot what its like to be free from arguing all the time. "The Infection", David means that by Depression which is something that i am going through.

I stay in my room 23 hours a day and it looks like I have a melanoma. I feel really baaad today. I know I'm not depressed but I've been crying a lot. Theses guys sure can evoke some emotion.

This song is so very good, a priceless contribution to the music world.
This album is both one of my favorites... and one of the most dangerous for me to listen to... As a non-neurotypical, I have a hard time coping with stress and articulating my thoughts the way I mean to, which often leads to MORE stress as I say stupid shit to people without meaning to and they get angry with me. A lot of songs on Asylum--particularly "Asylum" itself and "The Infection"--resonate VERY strongly with me in both good and bad ways. On the good hand, they help me to gain a certain type of clarity that helps me figure out what I need to do when I've crossed the line separating "fractured" from "broken", but on the bad hand, they always push me HARD past my breaking point before that clarity comes...
I feel you, i have Asperger's and music has always helped me communicate what I struggled to say. Music has been my muse since I was a little boy, For better and worse. It help me make sense of the world I struggled to understand, The feelings if alienation and abnormality and not belonging.
As a guy with Autism I have isolated myself for many years and have let my insecurities eat at me, I'm trying to escape from the hole i created for myself.
I'm also autistic and disturbed helped a lot for me

This song gives me the feeling of a world fallen into an apocalypse and where everyday people must fight to survive. That is an interesting interpretation, and I'll be sure to use it for a future project.

I recently had to drop somebody bc of how they were affecting my mental health, she made me feel like I wasn’t important and was only there when she needed something. This song gave me the strength to leave and move on with my life.
