    I am typically not someone who comments, but I have to say Daniel is by far the most effective teacher of chess I have come across on RUclips. I’ve been watching some of the other main personalities for months… and none of them come close to his ability in explaining complex ideas to beginners. I also love how regardless of the opening, there are so many instructive moments that present themselves in the middle and end game.
    In the past 2 weeks I’ve been bingeing this speed run and have gone from 1100 to 1200! Thank you Daniel 🙏

    13:25 i don't know if Danya saw it, but there's another checkmate sequence that wins you the game. You can attack the bishop with the rook in D3, then the opponent will have to take it with pawn or their rook, then you throw the other rook to e2, which leads to a checkmate sequence with Queen+Rook

    • @StarburstExpress
      @StarburstExpress 2 года назад

      throw the other rook to E2 and then the opponent goes rook D8 check and you get mated

    • @TuequoiseQueso

      No you actually _get_ mated. After rook e2, black plays rook d8.

      After Rxd3 Rxd3 Re2 is a blunder because Re2?? Rd8+ Kg7 Qh8#, so you can't play Re2 (thanks @Michael Finch for pointing out the error in my original comment and Qa1+ after Rxd3). Any other move and Black is down an exchange. You could try Re1+ instead of Re2 but after Kd2 Qa5+ Rc3 I think white can hold on for longer

  • @raphaelhudson
    @raphaelhudson 2 года назад

    Nc3 would be hard to find over the board as the best move against this line. Would love to see a little mini course where you play the kings gambit yourself. I watched Nepo's recent course and did not find it very helpful. He dismisses a lot of lines I find difficult as white, getting to a certain position and just saying "white is better" or "white is winning", where it is far from obvious, then he gets most worried about g5, because he thinks with best play white is heading into forced draw territory by move 20+. I actually find g5 or the Fischer not a problem at all in practice, it is my preferred line to face as white. I have tried it as black, and even if I am heavily booked on the kings gambit, I tend to lose as black because the position gives so much explosive tactical play to white.

    Kind of interesting that he says the Falkbeer Countergambit is just bad when the engine doesn't think so and if you look at a opening's database you can also see that Black wins more often than White in that opening - in fact there's only one rare line with d4 that wins more often with White and all other lines favor Black from a practical statistic point of view - would this not suggest that the Falkbeer Countergambit is objectively and by definition a very good response to the King's Gambit? Unless of course we are talking about only 2500+ rated players in which case it does indeed score rather poorly, but I don't think that is going to affect 99% of players when giving practical opening advice.

    Have you ever played 2. Nf6 against the Kings Gambit? I’ve found it’s a very solid weapon. It’s a tad boring, as it is just a version of the petrov, but it definitely offers chances for both sides, and on top of that it’s objectively better than 2.c6, and as black you meet the kings gambit rarely enough that you don’t mind a boring game once in a while
