One time years ago I called Microsoft and they had me installed something so they could control my computer. They installed Microsoft office. And then they had me uninstall the program for them control my computer. It kind of freaked me out at the time. I had never heard of these scams back then. I dont think anything bad happened though. I paid regular price for the software...
@@charliepetersen2815 Yes, that's true I called them. I try not to be judgemental of others, but I can't imagine believing someone who calls me and says "this is Microsoft, Amazon, etc." One tricky thing is when you enter a website incorrectly and it takes you to a scam. I'm glad I didnt misspell "Microsoft" and then call a fake number... My friend fell for the "Roku Scam" she said she was following the instructions on the box, it had a phone number or website to set it up.
@@username9999 I'm sure they didn't black out your screen, right? The person helping you let you see what they were doing to your computer to fix it. I had to contact HP customer service a few months ago regarding a new laptop I just purchased from them. HP customer service had me installed team-viewer so they could determined what was wrong with my laptop and fixed it or if I needed to mail it back to them so they can take a look at it. I saw everything he was doing to my laptop and asked me if I had any question regarding what he were doing to fix my laptop. He never blacked out my screen either so I saw everything he were doing. Once done, he had me uninstalled team-viewer.
If a stranger calls, ask who they're trying to reach. 99% of the time they don't know your name, the rest falls apart after that. Encourage seniors to call someone they trust (their child, the bank) if they get a strange call. And the third thing I'd add is if someone asks you to lie for them, that's reason enough not to trust them. If there is a legitimate problem, discuss it with your bank.
Probably the government is involved somehow. Probably, because it gives them the perception that immigrants have "jobs". That perception is not shared by the general public, though, but they don't care.
My disabled mother was the victim of a scam and lost $8000 to them. I am so very grateful for all of your hard work. Please don’t stop, every time you can catch one of these criminals you are saving the retirement money of hundreds of elderly people just like my Mom. Thank you so much!!!
Your mother would have been so shocked and really gutted by this. Well the whole family I guess would be affected, I hope you are all supporting each other. It almost happened to me and it was a horrible feeling. I can understand your anger, chin up and on we go.
This is such a fantastic grass-roots effort. All of these channels working together is more efficient and interesting than much of the content thats on TV anyway. BUT - Netflix/Amazon/Hulu, etc provides a MUCH bigger audience. I am all for it.
@@Gavin-mr1zs Are you kidding? I get around 5 scammer calls per day on most days-- yesterday Social Security, Amazon, car warranty, and cash buyer for my home. And I never answer them, but let them go to voice mail. . If I started answering them, the numbers would most probably increase since they sell and share lists.
She's really good. Empathy, flattery, well spoken, good command of English, friendly, but also viciously manipulative . She's like your perfect foil. The anti-scammer-payback. Much more glitter bombs!!
Terrifying good in keeping the accent consistent through the conversation. One detail though struck me: she was trying to keep a British accent, although she said she was living in Florida.
Not really true, its just difficult finding out how to call them, and you cant really blame them or they would get millions of calls a day. Stupid people who dont read the directions on what they bought and are having some simple problem, or they dont read the description and are mad somethings not black when it says its purple
Not to mention that almost everyone of these scammers seem to only speak with an Indian accent. I’m not saying that all scammers are Indian but these days you can’t be too careful.
“You are such a sweet woman, I can’t help but”…. scam you and rob you blind! Pretending to be kind and loving while you are scamming someone is particularly sinister and heartless.
These films should be shown to oldies while they are waiting for their vaccinated spots on their arms to dry up. Who has the patience to go through getting scammed like this? - even if they are extremely lonely and inherited lots and lots from their husband.
@@ytcomms3945 it’s a difference in mentality between their generation and younger people. If I had some place in India dump $50,000 in my bank account I’d tell ‘em to screw off and get a lawyer but people from older generations were conditioned to pay all their bills and take care of debts. That’s why they’re easy targets.
I remember reading somewhere that someones relative committed suicide because they got scammed out of a lot of money. They were heartbroken and depressed and just couldn't deal with it anymore. Remember who you're fighting for. God bless.
I used to participate in 419 scam baiting - that's the 'nigerian prince' type scams. There were many victims who committed suicide. These scum persuade them to lie to family and friends, borrowing more and more money and they don't stop until everything has dried up, leaving victims homeless, without friends, shunning family, feeling shame and desperation and suicidal. They are not all elderly victims and many are not stupid people, but scammers play on lonliness, or faith in god, or desire to do good for a (fake) charity, whatever the scammer thinks is the victim's weakness. It's horrible. And the deeper baiters like Perogi dig, the more horrible it becomes.
This scammer called my grandmother yesterday. I recognized her voice immediately. She was trying to do the windows computer bit. My grandmother and I have watched your videos together so she knew what to do
The same bastards will keep calling to get the old person they want to speak to, since they have auto dial numbers from a list. They try to call my 91 year old mom, where I live. You recognize the voices. A few actually have the name and say can you put "xxxx" on. Literally just ask them who the fuck are you, at that point. You already see the unknown number on caller ID, and any legitimate person would announce who they are. Only good thing is that it seems possible that the phone company or whoever gives them the numbers, somehow knows there's something going on. They shouldn't give them the numbers, but most of the numbers seem to be from economically devastated river towns from around the area, with major drug problems. They're not local scammers, but they want local numbers to call people from, thinking it will help them. It's as if whoever gives them the numbers knows something isn't right, and figures that the least they can do is give them a "special" number. When you see the location, it would be like seeing "Camden NJ" on your caller ID, if you lived in the suburbs of Philly. Hopefully most would say "Hmm, looks questionable".
I was scammed about 10 years ago for about $500 in this same way. I now tell people how it happens and what to watch out for. Thank you for all you do.
I was almost taken for $79….luckily I accidentally hit the wrong button (they would freeze your screen back then but all you had to do was close the window). I accidentally closed the window and EVERYTHING clicked in together in my head like dominoes lined up. My computer worked so I no longer need to pay for emergency support. Flash forward 15 years and when comcast or any other company connects me to India or the Philippines for tech and I immediately feel the hair on the back of my neck rise up. And then voila I am practically in a murderous rage.
My father was scammed and he said he felt so ashamed. It broke my heart that he should be the one feeling ashamed! He was 87 years old. Thank you so much for all that you do.💓
Yeah, one of those “Microsoft Technicians” called one morning and got my husband (knows zip about computers) all kinds of worried about the “virus detected on my computer”. But he told them he’d have to have his wife call back and took their number. I promptly reported the number to my state Attorney General’s scammer line. Some states do have some law enforcement looking into this awful issue... I’m waiting for INDIA to man-up and do something about their population of scammers. If Trump was in his 2nd term like he should be - he’d do something about these criminals.
That’s awful. I think some of the most kindhearted people fall for these scams because they trust people and can’t imagine someone would betray them like this.
As someone who uses scripted patter for very different purposes (namely close-up street magic), it can be very easy to get caught up in going from step a, to step b, all the way to steps g and h, all while making sure your hands are in the right positions, your patter (essentially your scripted talk through the trick), and your angles are all correct. So easy, that if you’re not practiced enough or if you’re overly nervous, it can be very easy to miss nuanced responses from the marks. Im not saying we should feel bad for her. Not at all. What she is doing is despicable and deserves condemnation. I’m merely providing a bit of insight into how/why she missed it.

@@davidwilson6577 Very high chance that the organization behind the scam operation is buying off the police, so police will leave them alone unless it gets social/media attention.

They need awards for people like you that nail these people. If you can get the information than they should have a place in the police dept. Oh ya, they do...isn't it the fraud dept?
I would love to be as skilled as Jim Browning, or Perogi, all I can do is increase their blood pressure, and stress, by being VERY irritating, and offensive on the phone with them. All about education. I am constantly telling my parents to NEVER give information over the phone and to tell their friends the same stuff. It will continue until we can show them that these people are trying to hurt them.
I can just imagine an elderly person thinking that they are dealing with a wonderful person...and being manipulated and fleeced for their kindness. Infuriates me

You guys are making real law enforcement investigators look real bad with how you're able to track these people down. Major kudos to you, Jim Browning, and Mark Rober, and all the other scam baiters. Make them fear you, rather than just seeing you as an annoyance. LOVE IT! 👏👏👏
That just shows how much corruption there is in law enforcement in India. If they really wanted to catch these guys, they could, and they have caught a few. When Jim Browning was featured in a BBC documentary, It got the attention of at least 1 official, who went after the call center Jim found for them. Unfortunately many of the police agencies in India are not above accepting a bit of bribery.

They do pretend that they care to the customers. Such as giving you a refund on things during the pandemic without you sending it back. Or if you have a problem with the delivery always ask for a inconvenience credit. Also they do give a moderate discount if you have food stamps even if you don't use Amazon fresh just load your food stamp card into your card revenue and you get a decent discount you have to redo it every time your account lapses though. Granted it is just pretending considering that I also have been getting charges for Amazon music over and over and over again no matter how many times I canceled call into cancel it call into canceled again call in to cancel it again I continue getting the charges so clearly they're trying to charge me on the back end without me noticing it... Most recently they were supposed to refund me for 8 months of Amazon music that I did not want and I had canceled beforehand but I only got 3 months back so far.

The trouble with "Christine" is that she sounds like so many other legitimate tech support voices. Not long ago I spoke to her when I called Home Depot's customer support line. "Christine" (forgot her real name) was great and resolved my issue without trouble. Just last week I spoke to a "Christine" who wanted to talk to me about my insurance plan. She couldn't or wouldn't go into detail about who she was with so I hung up. Keep up the good work.

I had a scammer yesterday that I could have sworn was in America. His English was perfect. As soon as I heard a hint of an Indian accent, I asked him when the US started hiring FBI officers in India. Sadly they don't care. As much was shown on one of Pierogi's earlier videos where he stole files from the scammer and found out an elderly man was scammed just moments before they tried him. As seen in a previous video one scammer went into a big justification bc of how evil the USA is... the evil west who rips off the rest of the world. I agree with others, this should be a series on Netflix. Also, the glitter bomb needs to be nastier. Should spray out glue as well as glitters and the smell is not bad enough. They should vomit from the smell :)
There are some chemicals that can make you vomit off of just one whiff....buuuuut, they're quite specialized, and hard to create. Since Rober is likely working on a budget, and these glitter bombs are already a pretty penny to make, using these specialized chemicals would drive up the production costs of each one to a stupid amount. Plus, the whole point of the glitter bomb is to be as annoying as possible without causing any real damage. Those chemicals could potentially cause actual harm, which Rober simply won't stoop to that level.
Needs to spray out permanent blue dye, honestly. But no they have to use glitter and fart spray and even not-too-loud sirens because otherwise they could get charged with assault and destruction of property. But making a mess (even an annoying one) is not against the law.
if they'd make any physical harm to the scammer (even if they deserve it), they'd be the same level as them. It's not the point i guess. Annoying badly is enough
I'm hoping to host a "avoiding being scammed" discussion in a local centre for seniors in assisted living near me. It just drives me nuts that the scammers usually are targeting more vulnerable people who aren't as tech savvy, more trusting, and more inclined to fall for a sob story. If covid keeps getting in the way of a group discussion, I'll get permission and go knocking on doors to talk to people about it.

@@username9999 I'm sure they didn't black out your screen, right? The person helping you let you see what they were doing to your computer to fix it.
The government is not ever going to do anything about these scammers! So glad we have you!

Imagine that money mule attempted to outrun you guys, while holding back gaging and puking from the fart spray in the glitter bomb.
To be honest the fart spray probably wasn't bothering them.
Mark's fart spray also has some skunk musk added. Mark Roper does glitter bombs for porch pirates. They are hysterical.
Ye i`m sure that put them off collecting more packages....not
I don't imagine it could stink any worse than the sewer he crawled out of.
I just feel bad for the money mule. You don't stop the scams by hitting the desperate pawns of the operation, the leader's just get a new one and continue. You're punishing the gas station clerk for the gas company destroying the environment.
I had a scam call once, i decided to see how it went if i actually played along, as soon as she asked me my age and i told her, she whispered, "scam, it's a scam!" and hung up.
moral of the story, if you get a call about some vague money issue, and they ask for your age, just tell them some age that sounds similar enough to what they sound like. maybe see if that will freak them out, or theyll just move on to try the scam on someone older
No it's obviously because the person was a kid at the time. I think she knew scamming kids is too far
She's the nicest sounding scammer I've heard on this channel (I'm new here but binging currently). I hope she gets out of this horrible industry and can make an honest living for herself (after punishment I guess?).
Mad how these RUclipsrs are doing more than the police and government. Keep up the great work 👍
Well, Mark settles for chastisement via shaming - They need to be wiped out financially via bank accounts
It's the POWER OF THE PEOPLE.
It's kinda scary how scammers who are well mannered, patient, understanding and agreeable are much more threatening than a loud, rude, impatient and entitled scammer
Checkout another scambaitor `The Hoax Hotel` he gets really good ones from Ghana mainly who are not the most patient or clued-up people on the Planet.
The devil doesn't come around dressed as the devil.
GO TO THE UPS WHY DON’T YOU GO TO THE UPS?
You and Mark Rober make a great team. When he came out with his first glitter bomb I thought it was great pay back, but now you guys have found a way to actually bring these thieves to justice. Kudos!😊
You're awesome. My friends father with dementia got scammed out of all the inheritance my friend would have received. His father hid the truth until it already happened. The family was devastated, because the inheritance was the only thing that could allow my friend to buy a house in this crazy market. His father was so upset, because he really wanted to help his son. He thought he was getting more money for his son, not losing all of it.
😂"I'm never gonna give you up honey, I'm never gonna let you down I wouldn't hurt you I wouldn't run around and desert you"
This cracked me up as well, by the way I love potatoes!
@@LanaKennedy121 best Rick Roll ever

@@jacobmees8040 Yes best rick roll ever.
Yeah, I caught that.
The dislikes are Scammers who don't like being exposed!
And their mules!
I worked +3 years in a call center while studying computer engineering and as professional as the call might sound we weren't allowed to be this long on a call.
I'm so glad you and your team are out there doing what you do. The world needs men and women like you. GOD BLESS YOU!
I just want to tell you I appreciate everything your doing ! I was scammed with the IRS scam for more than 7,000 ,during the start of the colvid and we still are feeling the pain from it ,I work real hard for my moneyan it was all I had saved ,I have done nothing but been talked down because I was scammed and you make me feel real better about it and I couldn't hug you enough and makes me feel like to cry watching you do this to them, thank you so much from our hearts God bless you brother and please never stop🙏
Send your information and all the details to him. Maybe he could try to make you whole. Doesn't hurt to try in any case.
This can happen to anyone!!! One lady had a PhD and used to think less of anybody that fell for it, until it happened to her!
It's happened to me. It happened to my boyfriend. AND It almost happened to my Son when he was going to rent an apartment. He told me about it and I Googled it and warned him and sent him the Google link about the rental scams. Remember AND Let people know that if they have any suspicions that they are being scammed, hang up and search Google. Type in Scams involving rentals, or social security, or a loan from "Bank name ", etc.. Usually scams will show up immediately in your Google search.
Would be great if all the scammers would one day "meet their equal" when they are way older, and get scammed out of their mind...
bro ...do u even know... that u have knowingly or unknowingly said the ultimate truth of life
That or be found in a ditch the morning after a captive boltgun takes out the base of the brain. I'd be happy with either.
Karma
I don't think they last much
mmm no. I believe in forgiveness, and even if they are horrible people I don't wish for anyone to be horribly taken advantage of.
I noticed she slipped being nice when she was told that they were giving him a hard time about it being a scam, then the relief in her voice when he told no she's my soon to be granddaughter.
Sometimes I can't believe how long Pierogi keeps these people on the hook! But it shows how determined they are to make the scam work.
Makes me so grateful my 82 yr old mother lives with me and does not have internet access! She said she didn't want it! Bless you for all of those you help!
This is how a family member of mine was scammed, with an Amazon refund scam. Thankfully my partner was suspicious enough to go straight round and help his grandad. I think he only sent a few hundred and they got it back from the bank.
It’s scary how older generations get sucked into this so easily 😢
I am so sorry to hear that ma’am. When you are ready to start recovery of the funds, purchase 5 amazon gift cards of $500 and let me know when ready to proceed.
If anyone ever reaches out to you to say there is "fraudulent activity" on your account, hang up and call the company back directly.
Actually, best thing to do is hang up, access on a separate device known contacts, like get a call access the website on a pc and use the in system help to figure it out.
This girl has been on "freelancer" business. Her English and style of communicating is way too good for Indian call center.
Or, most likely she used to work in a real call center before, will accent trained as such. Consider the riduculous net profit those scammer can made compare to customer support with fixed contracts, no surprise a professional receptionist will prefer a criminal group, the scammer has way higher salary.
I had a scammer yesterday that I could have sworn was in America. His English was perfect. As soon as I heard a hint of an Indian accent, I asked him when the US started hiring FBI officers in India. He shouted, "How do you know I'm in India? "HOW DO YOU KN..." The call was cut at that point. Because it was mid-sentence, I felt like someone else was listening and cut the call.
what does "freelancer" imply?
@@sweetmelon3365 No contract. Just work whenever, means they get paid more than regular employees but have no job security
@@jsm5166 THIS happened to me! when scammers call me I answer to waste their time and I was shocked when one guy, "John" sounded like an actual American, the second he said a word with a D in it, I knew he was Indian because of how much he emphasized it. I triggered him when I asked him "wait are you Indian?" and he was like "WHAT MAKES YOU THINK IM INDIAN?? I AM NOT INDIAN" and he was yelling and so defensive.
imagine going to sleep at night knowing that you scammed and old lady for all her savings. how sad do you have to be.
Sadly they don't care. As much was shown on one of Pierogi's earlier videos where he stole files from the scammer and found out an elderly man was scammed just moments before they tried him. Pierogi actually talked personally with the scammer and he lied out his butt about making a change for the better and instead tried to scam the old man the very next morning. They do NOT give a single F*#$
Well... from what I gather, they feel pride and some sort of self importance...
It is quite bizarre.
( I was scammed for a green card)
Same tactics mentally, emotionally, etc.
It is more elaborate, but overall it is all same tricks.
They have no Hearts. They are sleeping happy like Babys.
As seen in a previous video one scammer went into a big justification bc of how evil the USA is... the evil west who rips off the rest of the world. I guarantee they see us (US) as a shit hole country of the world, scamming the rest of the developing world... And that is a *legit" discussion for another day 👍😉 💙
@@TheStarBlack well, we R 4% of the global population, use 25%+ world's resources (and create at least that much in waste) *sigh* 🙄😞
Thank you so much for all you do to educate us. I stopped a relative from three scams but unfortunately, a client didn't listen and fell for the publishers clearing house scam and gave up $53,000
$53,000?!!!!!! Dear God.
Ooof! So sad and infuriating! Glad for your relative though!
Just last week I got four texts from Amazon asking if I had spent so much money in a Amazon order. But thanks to your Videos I knew from the start they were all sent to me by Scammers. Needless to say I called them and let them lead me in for several minutes before I told them I knew they were Scammers and not to try and take me for anything ever again. Thank you for giving me the knowledge to know I was being scammed..
Bless you "Pirogi" or the work you and others are equally burdened to do.
You make it entertaining while at the same time doing such good for older folks that are easily manipulated by the filth that preys on them.
You make me have hope for the world when it appears so dark at times.
My favorite way to start the day: Breakfast and a nice cup of scammer tears. *sipity sip*
WHY IS THIS SO FUNNY
Lol yea
@@E-qv4ii Thanks, haha
In my part of the world, it helps me sleep well.
Yes
Should spray out tar and feathers.
pepper spray, anyone?
if they'd make any physical harm to the scammer (even if they deserve it), they'd be the same level as them. It's not the point i guess. Annoying badly is enough
I honestly almost feel sorry for some of these guys.. But my morals say "good you deserve this".
I hope it works out! My wonderful grandma was scammed several years ago - social security number, bank account information, and other information extorted 😔 she had dementia at the time and answered a phone call with someone who sounded legitimate to her. Help if you can 🙏🏻 I very much appreciate these RUclips channels exist now
These grubs are persistent. They are that concerned about the money that any logic goes out the window.
As others have said this should be Netflix or Mainstream TV series that way people would know how it works. Not everyone gets to see these on youtube.
Kudos to you guys. Top work.
I’m pretty sure “Christine” was the same woman that kitboga talked to a couple times. Unfortunately she seems to be really good. And imo she doesn’t seem like someone who is down on their luck and is doing scamming because they are in a hard time. She seems like someone who knows exactly what they’re doing and enjoys it. So sad to see
Probably not. It’s just that most of these callers take a similar intonation when they pretend to be customer service employees.
No one I know scam people because they are having a hard time. That’s the most cheap excuse they can use. Believe me they choose the dark side because is easier.
I'm just always so impressed with how good Perogi's "Old Woman" voice is. I know he does a few different voices, but the 'old woman' is uncanny!
Pierogi, you and Mark are an epic team! This was one of the most intense things I've ever seen. Scambaiting has excelled beyond just wasting their time and syskeying their computers, it's all about making sure these guys are put behind the bars where they belong!
Never in my life I had legit customer support talk to me about their personal lives or ask me about mine
Same. They're on a schedule.
@@kippen64 no they arent on a schedule lol. It takes however long it takes to deal with the issues and every customer is different
I often have chats with customer support people. I'm a chatty person. I think it depends on your own manner with formal calls really. (not saying either is right or wrong, just different ppl handle it differently). :)
I had a Comcast guy from down south tell me about how he shot a junky with a shotgun for stealing stuff out of his yard. Said he was well known and told locals he got bit by an alligator.
Said he waited and waited for the guy. He knew that he knew him personally because the guy would undo his dogs tether to avoid it barking too loud.
He said when he finally saw the guy he dumped every round he loaded(birdshot) into the treeline as he was running away. I was like "you hit him?!" He said "hell yeah I hit him!" Shits different down south.
Yea as some one who works with the elderly these type of things happen elderly people love to talk when they get you on the phone
He really just rickrolled the scammer without her noticing, I could never.
