The G.O.A.T. of pepper advice....
Thanks ☺️
I have two orange habaneros, one cayenne, one jalapeno, one moruga scorpion and one generic chili from a supermarket seed this year, my first year growing, I have them in a greenhouse already and I have good hopes so far, they're looking really nice and already eager to fruit. I'm still picking off flowers and fruits to give them a bit more time to develop more foliage but in a week I'm probably gonna let them go at it. Planted in mid march, hoping for a nice harvest. Good luck to all you other wonderful chili growers!
I never thought that squishing aphids with my fingers would be so satisfying lol
Zone 6b. Last year had only 2 blossoms on my Bell. Picked them off and POW. It was really fruitful all season. Covered them when it got cold and produced into November. Saved seeds and got 100 % germination this spring. Thanks for all your help.
I’m in zone 6B as well! planting peppers for the first time this year, thought I was in the clear cold weather wise a couple weeks ago….guess not hahaha
My starts are in the ground as of two weeks ago here in SouthEast Saskatchewan. Got 42 in the kitchen garden. Pinchin flowers and watching the plants explode in this humid 88F. Thanks for your great vids.
Awesome! Love this time of year. Thanks for watching!
Because of your videos I am going pepper crazy this year! Have always loved peppers. Thanks for the great content
Such GREAT advice. Looking forward to seeing greater yields.
I just did this to my tomato plants this past weekend 😊👍
So glad I've found your channel. It has answered so many of my pepper growing questions!
Another great video! My jalapeno is 40cm right now, so I'm moving it to its final container in a few days. It's looking super good so far and I'm binging this channel's videos for help :D Thank you for it all!
This is my first time growing peppers and theyre just getting to this stage!
One big thing that I have done differently this spring is more water!! It’s hot here in Tennessee. The June Sun is just so strong from morning to dark! I have lots of clay. Pretty good soil. But it dries out fast. So tons of water. My plants are much bigger already. Thanks.
I use sterilized straw and mulch few inches thick. A time and water saver. Grass clippings as long as they weren't sprayed with herbicide should be great but look that up first.
I’m trying pepper crops in both our high tunnel with shade cloth and out in raised beds this year. The shade cloth tends to make their ripening go much slower, so I was hoping to have maybe an earlier crop before the grasshoppers take over out in the raised beds… Last year we trellised our poblano‘s and our jalapeños on cattle panels in the high tunnel, and they got up to higher than I could reach from standing on the side of the raised bed! I’m sure yours will do awesome!
First year growing peppers very helpful thank you
Great to hear! Good luck this year
Growing a Habanero, Serrano and Jalepeno for my first year! Wish me luck!
This yr I am growing mini Mexican Bell Peppers.
I save the SEEDs from peppers I bought from the store.
So far they have sprouted very well, and are growing into very nice seedlings. I will be up potting them again very soon. Then into the ground in my garden. I hope to get loads of peppers this yr.
In the future I hope to have mini bells & cherry tomatoes to sell.
This was my 1st year dealing with aphids (4th year growing peppers) and WOW do those buggers spread quick! I had a dozen peppers staging outside slowly and they got COVERED. I had to get a spray because squishing 1000 wasn't realistic. Was worried they'd take too much damage but they've been in the ground over a week now, no sign of aphid return, and they're growing happily (even though the wildfire smoke blanketing everywhere)
Ive got ~150 peppers in the ground. Been in ground since May 6th. Lots are still less than 1' tall but are trying to make peppers. Been picking buds but hoping soon theyll actually take off and grow
Mycorrhizal fungi on the roots when transplanting and worm castings for the winning combo!
I'm at the edge of the arctic circle. My ghosts are going in bigger pots today. Already have close to 20 peach ghosts 3.5 inches long. Will be placing outside in the day and bringing inside at night until july. Also have Filipinos and chilies.
My peppers haven't been growing since planting them but I realized they were working on flowering and they are way too small so hopefully they will be better now
Me pepper geek. You have amazing videos and info on peppers. Thank you. I wonder what pepper variety do you recommend for a hot pepper with the most meat. Someone recommended Fresno but I am hoping for something even meatier
Granular organic fertelizer neens a few weeks to breakdown an start to feed the microbes if you don't the feeding is delayed.
I'm in New England too, and these low temps the last week or so are just killing me. I already put some things out and I'm worried they're not going to like the cold, wet weather we keep getting.
Been a big fan of the super cheap, seemingly all inclusive Dawn soap and water for spraying.
💯
Happy to see your ongoing commitment to experiments! Gardening is Science!
I finally started planting a few plants in a friend's allotment with near full sun, a 4x8' raised bed. I'm using it for larger pepper plants (and a few tomatoes) (and the third of the low-riding Dorset Naga plants) that I didn't have room+sun for in my own two gardens. I'm still following a fairly vertical square foot gardening approach -- I know that works for me -- but I'm a little concerned about sunscald and drier conditions than I normally encounter in my forest gardens.
Shade tarp or black netting to dim light intense heat & rays.
Works for me.
Use some dry grass as mulch around plants.
Retains alot of moisture in soil & reduces watering.
@@hannahmaebeaver9521 Thanks for the tips. I am noticing less difference in the sunny allotment than I expected, so far. It seems my part-shade hardening off was enough to let the plants cope with heavier sun. I do expect to have to water more often, but for now we are in a rainy pattern here.
I had a great first harvest of peppers, but I had though they were tomatoes so I did at least prop them vertical. My main issue was that my pepper plants would get eaten quickly, I had hook worms and other insects that wanted my Habaneros more the me. This year I am growing them indoors to see what my yield can be. Thanks for the tips and I will see how my peppers come out. I also have a Ghost Pepper that someone sold me at the Farmer's Market, they used peppers from that plant to make their hot sauce..
great vid, thx....!
I overwintered a bell pepper and planted it out this week (from a 1 gallon bag). It's pretty big and has a lot of leaves and flower buds. Do you recommend picking all the flowers off of a plant like this?
🎉 Glad to See another Video on 🌶️ s
How do you feel about testing raised bed soil. How would the procedure be different?
Keep picking them flowers boys! 😂
This year I am experimenting with snake feces (I have a pet snake) as a fertilizer and so far doing good
3 of my pepper plants were flowering they are too small but I made a mistake topping them off instead of letting the flowers fall off or pinch them off I’m hopping they rebound and grow some branches and grow more flowers this time I’ll leave them alone and do what you did I learned from you thanks for a good informative video!
I saw a video from another channel, they recommended not topping varieties that grow large pods. Topping plants that grow smaller varieties works better.
This channel tested topping off and found it's better not to do that.
@@smas3256 That's just this channel, so not a sample size. Topping really depends of the kind of pepper, growing conditions and what plant size you prefer.
For the first time I've noticed that my chilli plants have zebra jumping spiders on them. These little critters are amazing at keeping the caterpillars and greenfly's at bay. Not sure you have them in your country but they are more than welcome here...
I experienced the same! I live in germany and have some small and dense bushes in front of my little garden. These little zebra jumping spiders live and overwinter there. They are so amazing in eating all aphids! I tested it already 2 years now. Plants inside (lodgia) are full of them and I really struggle to keep the balance. Outside these spiders and other "bush-hotel" residents keep them completely aphid free. These little jumping spiders are my best friends :D
Hello Pepper Geek. I have a problem with some of my plants. My Aji Lemon and Royal Black is producing flowers that turns into fruit. With my Aji Charapita and Piri Piri all the flowers is falling of (we are talking about 50+ flowers per plant that is falling of, not a single one is turning into a fruit). What is the problem with this 2 sorts? They are standing in my windows (just like the Lemon and Royal) here in sweden and I shake the plats every day to help with the pollination. I also add chili nutrience in the water times to times but it doesn´t help. This is frustraiting. But I´m also glad that my Aji Lemon is producing more than I expected. 30+ fruits per plant. Thank you for a great channel and have a nice day!
I over wintered a bell pepper plant and a jalapeño plant and now they have tons of flowers (zone 5b NY) Do you recommend pinching those too? The stems are an inch thick on the bell pepper plant
It unexpectedly got down to 35 degrees here last night. Luckily everything still looks good.
Would you also pick off the flowers of tomato plants if earlier than 2-3 weeks in the ground?
To fight against aphids I make a solution of soap and bakind soda and spray the plants with it. This year I planted veggies in the middle of every two chili plants in a row like; eggplant, cauliflower, celary, parsely and such.
Another good video!
I also pick off those first signs of flowers in order to produce more vegetation. I have this one Thai chili plant performed "surgery" to (that's what my girlfriend said) her and really got in there. Like he said, it's probably better to wait until they get a little bigger, but it's in a pot and I managed to get about 20 of them without any damage. With most of my pepper plants, I use those 3ft bamboo sticks but not until they're bigger. I put them in at an angle that end up going around the whole plant. Ends up looking like an upside down teepee in a way. Doing that, I actually sort of bend the branches down and open up the middle and inside of the plant. To me, it increases air flow and you end up getting a lot more light below the top canopy. That Thai chili plant is going to be a total ornamental beauty but will produce incredibly. Anyway, I train all of them that way and it works fantastic. If I'm lucky, I can get them to where they're almost perfectly symmetrical and opened up. It's awesome.
Personally, I enjoy spraying my plants :-). I think it's important if you're using something like neem oil, to do it even when there are no sightings of any pests. I use neem oil, warm water, Dr bronner's peppermint soap and a dab of fish emulsion. Of course, I only do it either in the morning or just before sundown. That method has been working for me for years and it's fantastic.
Again, great video and happy growing!
Eat those Thai chilies, they're fantastic!
This is great advice! Thanks Rob!
@@cheetos4052 Of course! Wish I could post pics of that chili plant. She's looking incredible!
How do you feel about adding wood ash mixed in water with a little coffee?did this to a banana pepper that was ugly. It's looking so much better one day later.
I appreciate temperature in °C below :)
Hello, did you had grown some bolivian rainbow chillies? Is their something special to know about them like sensitivity or pests or something like that? I'm growing them indoors in a pot and had watched your videos about indoor growing very informative and interesting
Thanks for your answer have a nice evening
Where do you find the best selection of peppers. Some varieties I hear about I can't find
ever consider trying to grow any peppers in an aquaponics system?
I just transplanted the peppers into their permanent location (grow bag). Do I still continue picking off the flowers/buds for a couple more weeks?
I'm trying to grow a different variety of chili peppers and although some issues present themselves, most of the plants are doing fine. Except Habaneros. They just straigh tup refuse to grow for the second year. Last year I've managed like 3 fruits by november. This year I've prepared a better place with more sun, fertilized the soil, left 40 cm space between plants and are being watered yet A - Curly leaves and B - The Habaneroes refused to grow again.
Southern NH here... The yo-yo-ing night temperatures this spring have me pulling my hair out.
And... Now it is hailing... Wtf!!!!....
It was cold and dry for so long indoors that I had to water very often. It got warm and humid and I killed all my seedling with root rot. That really hurt. The shame I felt buying pepper plants haha
Hello I am a new subscriber and I have the white flies problem and I tried everything...form neem oil to the bt spray to the mosquito bites i was told to buy and evne the soap and nothing works...can you tell me what else I can try for white flies?
Hey Pepper Geeks! I have a question.
I live in Alberta, Canada - where we have a pretty short growing season. We are lucky to have anything survive into mid-September, on a good year.
In this case, is it still valuable to prune or 'top off' my peppers at this stage in the season? Or would the lost time in the season recovering that growth seriously impede my yields? I do find my peppers tend to grow quite lanky or leggy most seasons, so I thought i'd ask here.
Thanks for all the tips by the way! Growing 4 varieties of Habenero (including Habanada!), some Chinese 5-color, two 'Cayenetta's, and two varieties of Thai chili this year.
I live in AB also. I have experimented with topping my peppers a little and in my experience it is not worth it. You need to top them quite early, so they have time to regrow - weeks before putting them in the ground. The best plants and yields I have ever had happened when I grew my peppers in a raised bed covered with plastic. I brought in buckets of peppers and my plants looked so healthy and strong.
I'm new to peppers so my little yield is all I can handle this season! LOL but I do have a question about it. I have ghost peppers and I have the plant in a container. I have about 15 peppers. One has ripened. Do they normally ripen one at a time? Thank you for your videos 🙂
Yes usually the first 1-2 peppers will ripen early, but later you should get a few larger flushes of production!
I have been planting marigolds in my garden for years and have never had another aphid.
I’m intrigued about the trellising peppers? More than just the stake? Does it include pruning?
Yes, basically pruning the side shoots at the first or second node keeping 1-2 main leader stems
I had my pepper plants leaves like fold up over itself very weird. Then i noticed the stalk started spouted leaves...i plucked those folded leaves. They seem happier now not sure what that was
My pepper plants have been in grow bags for almost a month n haven’t grown much only about 1ft tall been fert with fox farms liquid any suggestions are they ok
I have a question, I'm growing sweet bell peppers for the first time in my life! I've planted out 6 little transplants that I bought at a nursery, in a large 14 gallon Rubbermaid container. I have three evenly spaced down each side with good potting soil, some compost, and food scraps layered at the bottom. They all look healthy, but now I'm worried that I've put too many in the same container? I am thinking of taking out three and planting them in their own individual pot, as in one each? They've had about 10 days outside in the container, I've mulched them too and so far have dissuaded my chipmunk with tea tree oil after it ate one of the small plants new leaves! Put marigolds nearby too. Anyway, could you please comment on this, should I leave them be will it shock them to be moved, or should I go ahead and move half to their own pots? I see you get better yields and plants if they're on their own... sigh I am a definite newbie! Oh and I'm in Ontario Canada. Thanks, am a new subscriber. 😃😘
How big do the plants need to be to leave the flowers?
What are tips for helping the pepper plants get bigger? Mine stay pretty small.
Personally I fertilize my plants early with miracle gro shake and feed and pinch off any flowers or small fruit. My pepper plants are about 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall now which is what Bonnie plants suggests. They’re still growing and now starting to produce. Oh and water them daily when they are small :3
Hi there, where abouts are you located, I am on Vancouver island
all the leaves of my peppers have died, do you think they are gonners, or will they bounce back.
My plants are really stunted for some reason. They've been in the ground for 3 weeks now, plenty of nutrients, been keeping up on water. But this sun/heat and lack of rain makes me wonder if that's the issue or something else.
@5:15 I have to ask this question because I have heard from other gardeners not to do this. I have heard other gardeners who grew pepper plants claim that smashing aphids on the leaves causes damage to the leaves from the bodily fluids of the aphids, so since I heard this a few years ago, I have refrained from doing this. Is there any truth to this because I have spent quite a bit of money on cold pressed neem oil to combat aphids especially early spring time after I have put my indoor plants outside.
Can I freeze pepper if I have alot???
I didn’t prune here in Colorado the hail did it for me.
My peppers (sweet bells to reapers and ghosts) have been in the ground now for about 4 weeks with many blooms and some peppers but still only around 12". Should I remove those first peppers?
Yes, the plants should be pretty large/bushy when you let them start to produce fruits
if i see aphids infest stuff is just take the whole flower or leaf of if they coming again i just drown it in soft soap and repeat as long i dont see them anymore. And i do nothing else to my plants except for fertilize when they turn a lil yellow. I need those leafs to cower because in my balcony it gets up to 50°C on a good summer day
The flower thing makes some sense, but I also see commercial growers getting good results and somehow doubt they are picking early flowers from a quarter million plants(about 20acres)
It’s mostly about timing the grow. If you start even a week too early, the plants start fruiting and they’ll end up stunted
My pepper plants are a beautiful 2.5 feet tall but zero production! Please help!!
I purchased some Carolina reapers from the greenhouse about a month ago. Kept them inside until we started warmer nights after Mother’s Day. They haven’t grown at all since I planted them in buckets. My soul has a lot of perilite and some fertilizer mixed in. Not sure what I am doing wrong because my other pepper plants are doing great… got any recommendations?
Im having a similar issue, or at least I think I am.....but when watching this geek guy, he does seem to say they are slow to grow at first, then I go to another channel and hear the same thing, another Channel and see the same thing. So, I've decided to not overthink it at this stage and see what happens.
@@Brads-strung-out we got some rain over the last few weeks and mine have almost tripled in size… they are not flowering yet like my other milder peppers but it’s looking better for my reapers as of right now!
I've found that hydrogen peroxide in a 1:4 mix ratio with water works very well for pest control.
Is the addition of some alfalfa pellets to the soil beneficial to pepper plants ?
Sure, they should be fermented first, and they can be pretty nitrogen rich so a little goes a long way
It’s like, almost summer..
I know this is off topic but have you ever grafted peppers? I was curious on your thoughts.
Do it😁 create a Frankenpepper
I’ve got a spider living on a young sugar rush stripey, seems to be keeping the aphids down, shall I leave it to live in the plant?
Yes. Definitely!
Absolutely🕷😃
Thanks a lot I was hoping so lol 😂
Very concise and covered everything! I now know how cold is too cold for peppers. I think I will stick with my guess of 60F. This June is like last June with cold nights but more precipitation. Had a horrible pepper season last year and I blame it on the June weather. The HAARP machines must be working overtime. Tomatoes aren't too happy either. Garlic and peas are like "what's the issue".
My peas and tomatoes are doing fine, in zone 5b Canada way more moist and chillier than there. My peppers are doing fine just slow growing as it’s 8-10c at night still. Perhaps you’re choosing all varieties for climates different than where you live? Cause mine are doing fine chosen with consideration of my micro climate surrounding the area where I live.
@@JingaBBB Since mid-May many nights down to 41 to 43F (just below 8C) and lots of wet weather, too. I'm growing jalapenos, red fresno, italian/cunanelle and a red bell - Marconi. Too cold in my many years of experiences. Peppers to be planted this Sunday as forecast shows a slight warming trend and some sun ! Toms should perk up when warmth returns. Late April to mid May was warmer. HAARP

Hi. My pepper plant is infested by spider mites. Any tips to get rid of it?
Dish soap and water . Mix it and spray it simple stuff . Or get a bunch of ladybugs in another option
I will try it. Thanks 😊
Marigolds are a good way to prevent aphids. Slugs n snails eat marigolds so Lavenders will repel them. Plant these 2 with peppers and there you have pest free
Having an absolute nightmare trying to get rid of all these bugs on my young plants 🫠
I love how you mention hatch chilli, not that pueblo chilli YUCK.
0:50 is that webbing? smite mites?
No those are actually cottonwood tree seeds - you can see them flurrying around in the air during the video!
@@PepperGeek oh brother, that gunk is all over my plants 😂
@@PepperGeek ah okay, wasnt sure thanks for the information by the way your videos have helped a lot in my plant journey since last summer
Romina
Man I wish I could hoe that fast 😂
We don't do anything here. I plant new plants whenever. When they stop producing, I trim them back and let them regrow. Our climate is such that they will just grow and produce all year round without any coddling. I was a bit upset recently that my 4 yr old cayenne plant died for no apparent reason. It's trunk was as thick as my arm. Life goes on. Not for the plant, obviously.
I ant to see what you get when you cross a bell pepper with a hot pepper.
Yields meaning per acre or plant.
1st. Pinching flowers delays
Fruiting.
Topping delays fruiting by 3weeks.
So punching flowers in a short growing season would no recommend.
With long growing seasons your will be ok with maturity & harvest.
Outdoor chili farmers dnt top or pinch flwrs.
Plants grow taller & saves space per acre.
Indoor growers seem to pinch & top. Why ?
Over all topping & pinching flwrs. Can produce bigger harvest of pods. Making short bushy plants that look nicer.
Although..
Topped & pinched produce thinner walled peppers & smaller pods.
Non topped peppers produce alittle less pods with better quality thicker walled bigger peppers.
So pinchin flwrs has no real benefits.
correct me if I'm wrong but you said spring ?
I live in the southern hemisphere, and it just became winter which means I thought it would be summer for u northerners.
why r u talking about spring ?
unless it took 3 months for this video to be edited
I said spring
My plants are sad and stunted outdoors.
Arrrrrrgh I hate aphids!!! They will decimate your crop if left unchecked. Stink bugs are bad, but nothing in comparison to the aphids I have that hit EVERY kind of plant -- peppers, tomatoes, avocados, even some unexpected herbs. Arrrrrgh!!!!
I got about 40 hot pepper plants and 40 sweet ones

Jesus Christ Loves You
We’re ALL Sinners
Romans 3: 10-12
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
The Gospel of Grace
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Christ died (Shedd all his Blood) as a sinless man on the Cross for ALL humans as the final sacrifice. On the third day He Arose according to the scriptures defeating death. And now all who believe that will be saved.
Hell or Heaven is OUR CHOICE
Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 23:13
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
HELL IS A REAL LOCATION UNDER THE EARTH AND ALL NON CHRISTIANS WILL BE THERE AFTER DEATH
It HIS WORK that saves you
Titus 3:5-7
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
If you pray this prayer with faith you will be saved and have eternal life in Christ.
“I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”
If you have prayed this with faith (Wholeheartedly) you are Forgiven and now in the body of Christ.
Welcome brother or sister
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing can ever take you away from our
Lord Jesus Christ when you first believe in your heart.
NOTHING
NOT YOUR FUTURE PRIDE
NOT YOUR PRESENT LUST
NOT YOUR FUTURE LUST
NOTHING MEANS NOTHING
GOD WILL REMAIN FAITHFUL TO YOU
When I learned I was sealed with the Holy Spirit (Eternal Security) I was so happy, because my whole life (30 years of it) I believed a lie that I could lose my salvation by my bad works. Cause of that belief I walked away from the Lord for many years, “so what’s the point if I can’t measure up”. I ran to alcohol, drugs, woman etc, and it made me so depressed. I was longing to fill the hole in my heart that I came to realize only God can fill. Many years went by, then the last day I drank came, and I called out to God and balled my eyes out. From that day I started changing, and I haven’t drunk since. God has helped me through many emotional issues, has made my relationships much better, and if the Lord can save me, I know He can save you. I’m coming up on 7 years alcohol free in July 2023. All because of my loving Father God.
Now that I have better understanding, and realize the truth of His love it makes me want to do more for God. God wants us to do Good works and by our example people will see Christ and potentially come to believe themselves.
God Bless You
