    I have been trying to make some time to record a video for Jonas too. I haven't even congratulated him yet. Shame on me. I think its great that you always honor the longtime VC members Paul. I am planning a 12 year contest at the end of this year. I will be lucky to get three responses. {smile} I tried to get in touch with Mark a few times. We were both born on the the same day {along with that amazing gentleman from Florida David Sequoiaflame} and I always appreciated his excellent input. Its funny Paul. I remember Mark saying to me a while back that the VC would last forever and most of us would go our separate ways. I did not want to believe it at the time. But he was kind of right. There are very few people from the early days that are still posting. I still love him and I will continue to try to get him back. Once again your editing was perfect. I did check out DaVinci Resolve thanks to you. Monk Plays Ellington. You always tune me into at least one new album. Did you pick up 'Raise The Roof'?~

      Hey Rob, if you do a 12 Year Contest, you can definitely count on me for a response. For me it's not so much about the contest, rather than honoring the people that have given me hours of viewing pleasure for so long. The VC is like any type of community in the world. It evolves. It grows. New people come in and other people move on. I plan on sticking with it for some time to come because of the people that still remain here, like yourself, and a few newer members I have discovered. I am so glad you checked out Davinci Resolve. I wouldn't have even messed with it if it didn't get packaged with one of my newer cameras. I was blown away that it was free.
      Raise The Roof - Damn straight! I will never miss anything by Plant but I only have one copy. My collection can't sustain picking up the multitude of colored variants. How about you?

    • @Paneeks1960
      @Paneeks1960 2 года назад +1

      @@BarakaPDub I only got two Paul. I grabbed the pre-order coke bottle green and I grabbed the Walmart edition. Like our brother VK Vance. I will probably grab the red cover. I normally do not buy more than one copy of anyone anymore. Like yourself there really is no need at this point to buy various variants. But the Raise The Roof artwork looks so cool in various colors. I cannot resist. You are right. I should start honoring my friends in the VC who have given me so many hours of pleasure too. Shame on me. I am not the biggest fan of making videos. But I really should be contributing more than I do. Oh, thank you for letting me know that you would do a response to my first contest. Your responses are the creme de la creme of the VC~

    Hey Paul. Very fun tribute to SublimMedia here. 10 years in this community is quite the achievement! Oh dang, I LOVE the drum track on that Free the Robots "Diary." Excellence! Interesting to hear about your best jazz purchase as well. That cover is absolutely pristine! What is your most listened to jazz record...one you will revisit over and over and not tire of? I need to go back and check out some of DoctorDeadwax's prior videos. Any fun weekend plans? Catch ya later! 🙂

    • @BarakaPDub
      @BarakaPDub  2 года назад +1

      Most listened too Jazz record. That's a tough one and a bit of a loaded question. Even within Jazz, it can be mood driven for me. I would probably say that likely the most listened to Jazz album would be Kind Of Blue, without a doubt. As much as I like Jazz, I will concede that very few albums are solid tens, where every single track on the album is a must listen. Kind of Blue is a solid ten for me. Not a bad song on the record and it's one of those ones you have to take in, in full. Many people will say it's over played and they are correct but there is a reason for it being over played. Do I play it as much as used too? No. Like a lot of things, I have to put it on the shelf and not kill it.
      As you know I am always partial to Art Blakey but members of his band were the really the song writers. Art really didn't write unless it was a drum ensemble. Art groomed his found talent by getting them to write the songs and depending on who wrote the song, it can make a lot of his records a bit of a mixed bag.
      Weekend was busy nursing a sick wife, fretting about the Russian war with Ukraine, and replacing our dead Orange tree with a Peach tree. We lost our Orange tree in the winter storm last year and I finally got it out of the ground this weekend. I was sad because it did produce fruit for us but they can't take subzero temperatures. Peach trees are a bit more cold hardy. We already have one but it hasn't produced in Peaches in the three years we've had it. We're hoping with a second tree, it might bear some fruit.
      How was your weekend?

    Thanks a bunch for the video Paul. Love you and your videos Paul. Well you know that. I could ask for more videos and wish that you did more but everything has its times and making them has to be fun. So do them when you feel like it. I’m honored that you did one for me.
    Man so cool that you drew Mark into the light. I miss Deadwax so much!
    The first song Paul, what sample was that?
    Plays Duke is a favorite of mine. Such a great monk record. The night of his career imo. The riverside records are all magic.

      No problem Jonas. I had to do this one as a tribute to you and all of the hours of enjoyment I have received by watching your videos. As for Mark, I could swear I got connected to your channel through him right as he was starting. I am hoping he might come back some day and I thought it would be funny to ask viewers to comment bomb one of his videos just to see if we could even get a comment response out of him.
      As for the Free The Robots, I am curious too as to all what he used for the samples in Diary. The only piece I can nail down for sure is Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor which is so iconic.

    Hei, Paul!
    I remember Dr. Deadwax from my early days of VC. He was pretty cool guy and I enjoyed his videos eventhough his music taste different from mine. His "review" of Mike Rutherford's solo album was interesting to say the least. 😄 Than God I haven't heard it... but it almost made me curious. *cough*
    It's always a joy to find a really old record in near mint condition (assuming that you might like the music too). You got lucky with that Duke Ellington record.
    Thumbs up for finding more cool cgeap stuff,

      Jarkko!!! I am so glad you chimed in as I've had a few legendary folks like you remembering him. He was the one that nudged me to do a video after I commented on his videos for a couple of years. I had to include his record review because that was one of the funniest ones I could remember that he did. I picked up the record just recently to see if it was as bad as he described but haven't found the time to clean it up yet. I hope you are doing well!

    Always so good to see a video from you Paul! Still hoping for that jazz reboot with Michael... I wonder if "Free the Robots" is in any way linked to the legendary after-hours club "Save the Robots" from the 80's-mid 90's here in NYC. Do you happen to know?

    • @BarakaPDub
      @BarakaPDub  2 года назад

      I'll have to see if Michael is free over Spring Break to do a joint video. In between time with the family, I might have a day free where I can ask him to do a joint session. It would be fun. As for 'Free The Robots,' you never know about the connect. If there was a record produced in the club, he could have lifted the name form there.

      So if you include my time of just being a commenter, I've been around since 2010 or so but it was the dear doctor that nudged me into doing my first VC video around 2015. Jonas' background is in media so he told me he decided to really up his game this past year and he did.
      So if you do the videos when you're feeling the itch and have the time, I'm betting you'll be around for ten years or longer. I have the utmost respect for the folks that can stick to a weekly schedule or more for dropping a video. I just can't do that for work and family reasons. There's also the motivation factor. Why do a video when you're just not feeling it? I can't do that.

    I love both of your channels and I look forward to each of your videos. This comment doesn't really apply to this particular video but it's your latest so I know you will read it. In view of the new Mofi one step and 45 releases and the Miles Davis catalog; which Miles Davis albums would you like to see reissued next? I'm wondering why In A Silent Way was not a priority for Mofi. Could you both do a video rating your top ten Miles re-issue albums? Thanks again! Your loyal follower, Chris

    • @BarakaPDub
      @BarakaPDub  2 года назад +1

      Sorry for the long delayed reply Christopher. So I don't know why but they lost the rights to do A Silent Way and that's one I failed to pick up when it was issued and I am regretting it. I really enjoy that album and I wish they would do Get Up With It as a 33 rpm album. I have a used copy that's pretty beat. For me to do a top ten...it would be a challenge. I never could get into his Bitches Brew period. I respect the album for what it is but it's a little bit far out there for me. I am personally more partial to his first classic quintet. I'll think about doing a dedicated Miles video though.

    I subscribe to so many people and (you know me) I genuinely try to watch and comment on everyones videos whom I follow (though I've been on a small hiatus lately). I have watched Jonas for years, but because I somehow became unsubscribed his channel became out of sight / out of mind.... and I just realized by watching this (well, and the fact that he recently commented on one of my vids) that I was unsubscribed. I'm definitely going to have to give a deeper listen to Free the Robots. I think I'm goiing to do a response myself. Cheers Paul! - TONE

      Thanks TONE and I think being on a hiatus is good. I have the utmost respect for people who can put out a video on a weekly basis but you know, if I am not in the mood, then the quality is going to suffer. And making it like a job would likely kill my interest in this whole thing which I don't want to kill. Do check out Free The Robots. He's still producing records but I am still partial to his earlier output. I hope you are doing well my friend.
