    This sounds like the same argument that Jordan Peterson uses to describe how conservatives and liberals need each other to keep the balance in politics.

      Except that Peter and Paul were united in their beliefs and God, unlike Dems vs GOP. Bishop Barron is only reflecting on the approach, not the message.

    Great commentary Father Barron. If you had a couple of more minutes you could have pointed out where this unique relationship was most clearly evident in the very early church and that was in the decision made on circumcision and the newly converted Gentiles: Peter made the decision and Paul gave the answer as to why.

    I had never realized that the word "petrified" derives from the Greek "petros" until having seen this video! That is so interesting.

      Want to know another awesome word? "Lapidescent", which means "turning to stone". I don't think it's derived from petros, though.

      Thagomizer I believe it derives ultimately from the Latin "lapis", meaning "stone".

    From the entrance antiphon at the Mass during the day - "These are the ones who, living in the flesh, planted the Church with their blood; they drank the chalice of the Lord and became the friends of God." From the Alleluia - "You are Peter and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it." From the Sursum Corda - "...Peter, who established the early Church from the remnant of Israel, Paul, master and teacher of the Gentiles that you call. And so, each in a different way gathered together the one family of Christ; and revered together throughout the world, they share one martyr's crown...".

      2 years after you posted, it's the same. In every Mass in the world, it's the same -- From the entrance antiphon at the Mass during the day - "These are the ones who, living in the flesh, planted the Church with their blood; they drank the chalice of the Lord and became the friends of God." From the Collect: O God, who on the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul give us the noble and holy joy of this day, grant, we pray, *that your Church* *may in all things* *follow the teaching* *of those through* *whom she received* *the beginnings of* *right religion. Through* *our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son*, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. *Amen*. From the Alleluia - "You are Peter and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it." From the Sursum Corda - "...For by your providence the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul bring us joy; Peter, foremost in confessing the faith, Paul, its outstanding preacher, Peter, who established the early Church from the remnant of Israel, Paul, master and teacher of the Gentiles that you call. And so, each in a different way gathered together the one family of Christ; and revered together throughout the world, they share one Martyr's crown..." From the Communion Antiphon - "Peter said to Jesus: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus replied: You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church."

    Interestingly I always, since I was in preschool, wanted to name my son Peter but this was because I had a friend named this at that time and it is a 'better' P Saint name than mine. Lately, I ended up learning what the name Silas means, both "prayed for" and "of the forest" and want to name a child of mine this even more so; my entire life I've always wanted to bring life into the world to honor God and my bloodline, so Silas really would have been prayed for and I came to know God in a forest.

    In the time of Saint Joh Paul II he was Peter and Cardinal Ratzinger was Paul. In time of Pope Benedict XVI the Great the two were in one person. We are all blessed see this wonderful phenomenom.

    We, the Christians have no argument nor debate that Peter was the Rock Foundation (Corner Stone) of the Roman Catholic Church, and they are entitled to claim that 100%... but we, the Christians believe in Matthew 7:24-27(paraphrased) "The Wise Man (God) build His House (Church of God) upon the Rock (Christ Jesus)"... and not upon the Rock called by the name Peter... Amen.

    Interesting thing that dawned on me recently. In Protestantism the Pauline spirit is overwhelming the Petrine spirit. In Eastern/Oriental Orthodoxy the Petrine spirit is overwhelming the Pauline spirit. In Catholicism there are in a balance.

    Catholics have the right to say that Peter is the Rock Foundation/Corner Stone of the Roman Catholic Church, 100% correct... but definitely NOT the Rock (Corner Stone) for which the Church of God was established (built upon) by/thru Christ Jesus, around 2000 years ago (1st Cent. A.D.)... Amen

    very nice most scholars both catholic and non catholic accept that church of Rome was founded/organized by Peter and that Peter died in Rome and the orthodox have more common with the Catholics in that they even say that the rock referred to by Jesus was Peter but what they don't believe is that the bishop of Rome has authority over all the bishops and they don't think that the church of Rome was only founded by Peter but also Paul , they both died in Rome, they believe all the apostles had equal authority and when Jesus was referring to the rock he was talking about peter but also all the apostles and their faith those who deny these facts are probably some anti catholic protestants,unitrians,jenovah witnesses and mormons

    • @HolyKhaaaaan
      @HolyKhaaaaan 10 лет назад +1

      First, glad we agree Peter founded the Church of Rome. He also founded Antioch. And yes, Paul also founded the Church of Rome. But perhaps it was because they both founded it that Rome is so important. Rome was the heart of the empire, and the place they wanted to get to more than anywhere. More importantly, Peter was the head of the Apostles. Peter is mentioned more than all the Apostles combined, considered the center of the church. It is he who allows Gentiles into the Church. And Jesus's address of Matthew 16:18 was clearly addressing Peter. He only is the "Rock", as his name is changed. And it's clearly a meaningful name, as Jesus is the Rock, and so Peter reflects Jesus, not only in his infallibility, but his solidity.

      ChesterKhan yes it might be true but early church doesn't seem to have given all authority to the bishop of Rome

    • @jayd4ever
      @jayd4ever 10 лет назад

      bonnie43uk it would have been better but he also had to convince the Jews if it came from Rome it would have just been another religion which came out of paganism

    • @HolyKhaaaaan
      @HolyKhaaaaan 10 лет назад

      bonnie43uk Actually, now that I think of it, there is a reason He did it. C.S. Lewis talks about it at length in one of his works, which can be found in "God in the Dock". I believe it comes from an article called "Christianity is One Great Miracle". To quote the man himself:
      "[T]o put it in another way, why was it that the only case of the “dying god” which might conceivably have been historical occurred among a people (and the only people in the whole Mediterranean world) who had not got any trace of this nature religion, and indeed seemed to know nothing about it?"
      Of course, it is good to read around that quote, to get is full context. Hopefully it will illuminate what I mean. I got it from here, if you wish:
      www.orthodoxytoday.org/blog/2014/05/christianity-is-one-great-miracle-the-grand-miracle-by-c-s-lewis/
      Now, why God chose to put Israel on the east coast of the Mediterranean and not on that boot-shaped peninsula, I have no idea. But then again, I have no idea why he chose to make the boot-shaped peninsula - or anything at all - rather than not. The best answer I have is: out of love. That's all I know.

    • @jayd4ever
      @jayd4ever 10 лет назад

      bonnie43uk yes most don't but some Jews do if he came from outside Judea there probably wouldn't have been any Jews and he probably wanted his followers to spread it outside Judea as they did and the pagans wouldn't have accepted a Jew preaching and even if Jesus rose from the dead he probably would have just thought of as another pagan god but to the Jews the messiah was different and Jesus was one of them

    Novena to Saint Peter.
    O Holy Apostle, Saint Peter, because you are the Rock upon which Almighty God has build His Church ; obtain for me I pray you, lively faith, firm hope and burning love ; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience adversity, humility in prosperity, recollection in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the wil of God and perseverance to the will of God even unto death ; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be made worthy to appear before thé chief and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and Holy Spirit lives and reigns forever. Amen.

    These are some of the verses in the Bible, that prove, narrate, and acknowledge Christ Jesus as the ROCK FOUNDATION (Corner Stone) in which the Church of God was built and not upon Peter... Matt. 7:24-27 / Luke 6:46-49 / 1 Corinthians. 3:10-11 / Ephesians 2:19-22 / 1 Peter 2:4-8 / Psalm 118:22 / Isaiah 28:16... Amen.

    Often, I hear priests comment 'Popes, bishops, priests" but never deacons. Are permanent deacons consider part of the office of priest or not? Do they just get ignored in this litanies or when "priest" is mentioned, is it just implied?

    If Jesus commanded Peter to feed the sheep or being a shepherd or to be a servant to the people, then why are the Popes acted they were equal or higher than God. Then again, if the Roman Paganism Empire crucified Peter upside down, then how did he become the first pope? Years later after Peter died, Roman Paganism Empire CHANGED NAME into Roman Pagan Catholic Church. Is this interesting? The Paganism System and doctrines were and still the same but the name.

      Alex Gick Jesus has shown me that He is not in catholicism over these past couple years and He can show you too if you ask Him. Jesus' church is but a remnant, a small fraction, it is not 1 billion people. If you look and really look at catholicism, it is just another pagan religion. Thats all it is. LOOk at it. God does not comand us to do these rituals and I go to catholic school and i have heard all their defenses from the bible and I know for sure they have misinterpreted the bible on such things, they misinterpreted it for purgatory, purgatory is false. Ask Jesus for all truth. Jesus hates the seminary schools and He does not lead anyone to become a priest, nun, pastor, etc. Jesus is not in any denomination. I know this may be hard and heavy on you now but in time if you keep walking with Jesus and seeking Him, He will show you. :)

    JESUS BUILT HIS CHURCH ON PETER THE ROCK AND NOT ON ANYBODY ELSE! Peter had no relationship with Paul in fact non of the Apostles had a relationship with Paul this was because Paul spoke blasphemy against God's law the Torah. Even James in Jerusalem the brother of our Lord refused to support Paul's two faced activities.
