Israeli Director of "No Other Land" Slams Claims of Antisemitism over Apartheid Comment at Berlinale

We continue our conversation with Israeli journalist and filmmaker Yuval Abraham, who discusses the award-winning documentary No Other Land that he co-directed with Palestinian activist Basel Adra, about land dispossession in Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank. While accepting the audience award for best documentary at the Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, Abraham said Israel was practicing apartheid, a comment for which he later received death threats. "You have German politicians who are not Jewish who labeled me as an antisemite. For what? For calling for a ceasefire? For calling for equality between Israelis and Palestinians? For using the word 'apartheid,' which should be common sense to describe these parallel systems of inequality?" says Abraham, who calls for an end to the "apartheid reality" in Israel and Palestine. "If there is no full political equality and really full freedom to everybody who lives in this land, then there can be no future here. We are going to continue to fight to change this."

Having been born in Berlin and becoming an immigrant as a child, I am so ashamed of the Mayor of Berlin's comments about the film No Other Land. Support for Israel should not exclude criticism for policies that are harmful to other religious/ethnic peoples. Thank you for making this film. I had a friend in college USA she was Israeli, she came to me introduced herself and I in return introduced myself. She is Israeli, and I am Palestinian. We were friends throughout college. Some days we meet for lunch or dinner, she will come to my house and visit. One day she called me crying and said to me she will be not be able to be my friend anymore bc she got married to this crazy Israeli in the military and asked never to speak to me again.

Yuval was being interviewed for investigative journalism on the IDF's Lavender AI weapons system, and they also discussed his film. But the film was not the focus of the interview, otherwise they probably would've involved Basel
A great part of the political establishment in Germany believes the savest way to prove that Germany is no longer antisemitic to go along with the dominant view in Israel (broadcast throughout the world by various organisations like the ADL) of what is antisemitic, ignoring the fact that unpleasant facts (like the Apartheid reality) are smeared as antisemitic for purely cynical political convenience
