    Glad someone thought to list nfs and smb usage connections/logs. I never even considered that as something to have, since I have less than a dozen machines in my homelab currently, but I can see how that could be valuable in an enterprise scenario when planning an outage or building DR plans. Cudos!

    I think I'm moving to Scale as soon as this release is out, I have been holding off with my main TrueNAS CORE working so well. The usability seems to have come a long way.

      I started using Scale immediately last year when I built my new NAS, I as using Ubuntu previously and was happy to stick with Linux. The only issue I had was with Truecharts being quirky, especially with breaking changes during upgrades. Otherwise I'm happy with it.

      @@lyianx Proxmox is a hypervisor (mainly) Truenas is a storage appliance (mainly). Both of them can do more than what they are mainly used for though, point is I use Truenas core right now (which is freebsd not linux based) but it looks like most of the development effort is going to scale and I should probably get used to using it.

    I am surprised iX Systems have not partnered with a mainboard manufacturer to introduce hardware for the 1/2/4/5 drive NAS market to compete against turnkey NAS units as an entry level solution for SOHO / micro businesses.

  • @Razor2048

    I just wish they would develop a way to seamlessly expand a storage pool similarly to some of the commercial turnkey NAS devices where you can do things like purchase 1 drive and just add it into the NAS, and it will just expand the pool to include it. This would be better for home users who may just want to have a basic setup with 2 drive redundancy and just be able to toss in an extra drive once in a while when there is a good sale on hard drives.

    • @krismoore9223
      @krismoore9223 3 месяца назад +1

      That is coming in SCALE 24.10 this fall. Raidz expansion merged into OpenZFS, so you can start with a smaller vdev count and add one-by-one.

    Many thanks for doing this - I'm disappointed that the SMB changes are not genuinely those of ease of use. Creating a share in Truenas Scale remains clumsy, having to edit the very poorly laid out dataset ACLs rather than SMB access. I appreciate that's related to the Linux file permissions but the current config, even to create a guest share is a muddle.

    Great video. I'll be installing SCALE once I set up my new Proxmox cluster. I've been all CORE up to this point.
    Do you think you'll do a separate video at some point focusing on the dual dataset/share setup? I'm so used to the multi-step process to create the users/create the dataset/define the permissions/set up the share in CORE that I kind of boggled at that point of the video. Like, excellent news, but I am confused how it can go that quickly. :P

    Looks interesting. Good to know that True-charts currently does not work😢.
    Based on your t-shirts: any thoughts on how to do incremental remote backup to S3 buckets with TrueNAS? the current sync option probably works but that's not great for backup.
    I am still running Proxmox as my homelab NAS with an LXC containers with all zfs datasets accessible. It is running duplicati to Wasabi S3 as incremental backup. I am about to migrate to TrueNAS-Scale, however proper builtin or bolted on backup is still missing for me.
