My job is buying, renovating & renting properties.
It is not an easy thing to do. The project is less about the property and more about the people/tradesmen.
Huge respect to Anton for accomplishing this in a foreign country with significant language, law and custom barriers.
He makes it sound so easy. Seriously impressive.

I get the impression that you need to speak Japanese in order to make buying an akiya a success. What do the people here with experience think?

    • @larynOneka8080

You can hire an interpreter/translator from an online translation service. It's not very expensive.

@@larynOneka8080 As Anton indicates, it is important to establish a relationship with the local community. I don't think that could be done using a translation service.

You don't need to establish vibes with the local community to purchase a house. You need money, a real estate agent and a seller that's willing to sell you their house. My Japanese real estate agent has never told me to go set up vibes with the community. Don't act like a spoiled brat and be nice to your neighbors. That's pretty much the rule in any country in the world.

all these dying inka villages in the boonies of Japan will soon become enclaves of Western foreigners . They should encourage foreigners who come from hunting cultures as wild boar, pigs and bears are becoming a problem. Imagine if 30-50 Texans all bought akiya in the same area and turned a village in Japan into a mini-Texas.

@@ChimpoLust I didn't know much about this, but read that indeed there are large and growing populations of boars and bears, also in the Kanto region close to Tokyo. Don't the Japanese hunt these animals? I read the meat is tasty.
