    68 Years ago Creature from the Black Lagoon hit theaters and the world was shocked seeing the Gill-man on screen! This Universal Classic has thrilled audiences for years but its incredible to learn about its filming locations not only in California but Florida! Hello and welcome to the World of Micah! I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting -from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Walt Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and ‪Back to the Future‬. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions. I'm also a major Movie Buff! I have found the filming locations from such films as Edward Scissorhands, Halloween (1978) & Hocus Pocus!

    Great video! I loved the Creature movies, especially the underwater scenes. My favorite Universal monster.
    Just for completeness, that movie still was from "Seven Year Itch" with Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell

    This is SO cool! My last trip to Silver Springs was in 2000, and it was with a group of first graders, when I was starting out my teaching career as a substitute/teacher's aid. I remember those statues.

    My family and I lived near Ocala in Silver Springs Shores for 8 years. We moved there in 1980 when our son was 2. We had yearly passes to Silver Springs in its heyday. Along with the glass bottom boats they had a jungle cruise, reptile show, antique car museum, petting zoo, and lots of shops. After we moved away we went back once when they had added a safari adventure and an outdoor show, but the antique car museum was gone. I have lots of pictures of us enjoying the park. If I lived there now I would go often to enjoy it as a state park because it is so beautiful. Wild Waters water park was next door and we spent many days enjoying that park and was sad to see it close. By the way, when my husband was young in the 1950's they actually had a beach area to swim at--that would have been so cool! Thanks for sharing the way it is now. Oh, we were also lucky enough to have been able to go to Six Gun Territory before they closed it down and built a Walmart and other stores in that area.

    Not only did Rico not get billing for good technical work and staging - it was HUGELY dangerous. Taking a breath at depth, and then swimming around sounds cool - but if you panic and go to surface your lungs would "explode". The compressed air in lungs will expand unless you let air out as you go to surface - but your panic instinct is to hold your life saving air inside your lungs.
    PS: great video Micah. Also a Creature from Black LAgoon TV show had a swamp set at Unviersal studios in the early 1990s at same spot as MIB

    love this video. I really like when you show the world the beauty of my home, Florida. Been here all my life, I've been fighting so hard for the environment around central Florida and throughout Florida my whole life. I'm so glad that people can see what used to be so much more abundant throughout Florida. We do need to do a lot more to try to bring back the beauty everywhere throughout the state. Silver Springs is a lovely place that I encourage everyone to visit.

      Since you are mentioning Florida conservation, I am sure you remember when Lake Apopka was nearly dead. When my son was a student at UCF he did a research paper on that. We lived in Apopka for 12 years and not long before we moved in 2003 was when they closed down a lot of farms and groves that leached chemicals into the lake. I have friends who still live in the area who go to Lake Apopka regularly now to take wildlife photos and I am thrilled there is so much life back in that area!

    • @killroylives
      @killroylives 2 года назад +1

      @@trish5556 I remember that whole thing. I also can vaguely remember cuz I was a little young at the time when Lake Apopka was pristine. I have noticed it's coming back and it's looking really great we still got a long ways to go. But my absolute salute to him bringing what he could of a spotlight to the issue, and I really hope that he went on to do great environmental work after his graduation. Join me on my channel, I have another Channel called the eco guys. I will be sharing a short video soon about my other channel and if you want to subscribe and watch it and have him do that as well that would be great. Orlando has a long way to go, I will never give up on it. I live in the Orlando area by the way LOL

      I too am a Native Floridian of 56 years and have seen so many changes (not for the better). I remember the beautiful orange groves that lavished central Florida (now gone and called the Villages aka Heaven or Hell's Waiting Room), When you'd go to the top of the Citrus Tower you could see endless miles of nature with the view of a few farm houses, west of Ft. Lauderdale was part of the beautiful Everglades (now the town of Weston)... Florida has over a 1000+ people moving here daily and our old Florida is disappearing.

    We enjoyed our boat tour of Silver Spring park. I saw the NWS map of the March 12th Ocala tornado showed the path of travel almost made it to Silver Spring park. Have you ever filmed the ruins of the unfinished Florida Barge Canal (bridge pier in the middle of US 301) and the high rise bridge over nothing on Hwy 316? Google Maps even shows an old abandoned lock in the woods/swamp not far from the bridge.

      I have relatives in the Ocala area and they said most of the tornado damage was way out 200. No serious injuries, but lots of property damage.

    Wow on the video, especially the manatee visitor! It's been a bit over 3 decades since my last visit and the tour boat wasn't part of our day. (Back in the day there was a swimming area for the springs; a cabinmate found a shark's tooth. In the geological history of Florida--the land rose and sank a time or two) Its great the statues are still there. Captain Bill was awesome. Thank you for a wonderful trip, Micah.

    I remember It was Ross Allen Snake or reptile ....Rattlesnake show where a employee would blow up a balloon have the rattlesnake strike the balloon. Once stuck the balloon and the handler...show was over. Gator wrestling show also. that was back in the mid 70's to early 80's. ..had a jungle cruise where they would throw bread to monkey's. The monkey;s were from Tarzan movies..Are the monkey's still there? Thanks for your videos and memories!

      The Lobster House, and the pier it was on, burned down a few years later and nothing ever took its place--one would have to hover over the water to be in the same spot.A few feet over on dry land, though, another restaurant was built that had several names over the years. It was recently demolished, though. A multi-use development is going in.

    When I was a teenager I worked at Silver Springs and Wild Waters. I noticed you didn't mention the filming of "Smokey and the Bandit 3" also filmed at Silver Springs/Ocala (Starring Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick, and Paul Williams "Burt Reynolds is only in it as a camo from previous movies") At Silver Springs, visitors use to be able to hear Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan Call played over a PA system back in the woods giving guest the audio illusion he was swinging through the jungle. Another fact is, Maureen O'Sullivan (Jane) lived just west of Silver Springs behind the old attraction Six Gun Territory (now a shopping plaza) and if you drive east on Hwy 40 just past Silver Springs' OLD entrance Elvis Presley's mom had a pink mansion with a pink Cadillac. (which was torn down years ago)
