I love the MH40 Pro!! When working security at an airbase, and as you can imagine, I have a long distance to cover, and being able to highlight any immediate threats/issues far far away and radio in exact instructions is a time and life saver, literally! That sense of detail you get with the hotspot is good to get the details you need for the job done. The 'fog' thing is real, this is a no-nonsense cut through to the issues light!
I love my MH12 Pro. As for MH40 Pro, I personally don't have a use for it but I do like it a lot. I am going to get one for my father anyway as soon as it's available from our local nitecore dealer. He has a chicken farm, the 4 large coops are located about 50 to 100 meters from the three storey building the live on, and are visible from the rooftop. He is currently using a Chinese flashlight to check the perimeter from the rooftop of their home few times every night. It's powered by 3 D size batteries and quite enough for him. I do still get complains about Jackals stealing chickens from time to time from my mother.
I work night security at a university campus in the woods. I have a reasons for why the MH40 Pro would benefit me. 1. It will allow me to identify potential threats or obstacles from afar. 2. Being able to see further will reduce the risk of unexpected encounters with wildlife or intruders. 3. A strong, visible beam will also act as a deterrent to potential trespassers. Thank you for your videos.

Fantastic review! The attention to detail really shows why the MH40 Pro is such a solid tool. I work in wildlife management, specifically in remote areas where visibility is crucial for tracking animals at night. Having a flashlight with a 1,200-lumen beam and 4-hour runtime would be a game-changer for my work. The long-range beam would help me cover large open areas, while the waterproof design is perfect for the unpredictable weather I encounter. Would have been fantastic in my old job in Search and Rescue, but nowadays this MH40 Pro will be useful for my occasional hiking trips with friends. Nice!
I've ordered the light for my use in the early mornings at work. I'm currently using the MH25 Pro which works great but am looking forward to the MH40 Pro for the longer and brighter throw on the surrounding hills at work. You're comparison of the two makes it very easy to make the switch. The longer run time makes it a no brainer.
I have no legitimate reason for something like this, but I must have it now! I just have a thing for tight/long throw focused lights like this! Just ordered my first Nitecore product, an EDC29, and excited to get it and see how it does! As a previous/current Surefire guy, these Nitecore lights sure seem to provide a LOT of bang for the buck compared to the uber expensive Surefires!
The MH40 Pro looks awesome! While I don't think I have a use for it in my professional work as I work in IT/data analysis, I do camp and hike a lot and having a great throw would be awesome to have.
The size of the bezel makes this light pretty impractical for mounting to most weapons, it COULD be useful mounted to something large like a Browning M2HB if it can survive the recoil. It can actually provide the kind of light range that would be useful for the M2HB's .50BMG cartridge, but there is a significant amount of muzzle blast and recoil from that weapon. For most firearms there wouldn't be any way to mount this practically because of that large bezel, it would be offset so far that any mount that could place it properly would either be weak if it's not thick enough material, or heavy if it was strong enough to hold it properly. This light definitely has uses, but a weapon mounted light is not one I'd choose for this particular light, smaller bezels are kind of mandatory for that use, and something like a 40mm bezel is the largest that could work in a practical manner. For these reasons I think LEP lights that can achieve some level of spill alongside their extreme throw is the way forward for weapon mounted lights.
For those who want a nitecore flashlight that is affordable, bright, compact, dissipates heat faster, and doesn't care about built in battery, just pick up the EDC35 with no second thoughts. It is better than TM20K, TM12K, TM9K PRO, AND TM9K TAC. Having a cheaper light that doesn't have too much heating issues and short 7 turbo runtime is a win. You gotta trust me. It's better than my TM9K TAC. Oh and don't forget the 6000mah battery, and 15 seconds longer runtime on spot/lumin shield is indeed a bang for the buck.
I have an old similar form factor light that stays on my nightstand, Eagtac m25c2. The MH40 looks like it is slightly better in each aspect. Nice light!
