+Sean Scarmack IMO $200 is better spent on many other things in a home gym than a blue paint job, regardless of how rich you feel you are (and I didn't get a "money-is-no-object" vibe from this video). Black is the "free" color, by the way. Nothing wrong with black. Spend the $200 on jump boxes, more plates, dumbbells, sound, etc.
cheezwhizvids I mean, I'd rather have black personally haha. But in the grand scheme of things, he spent over 5k....$200 is nothing...But I honestly couldn't couldn't agree more though, I'd rather have black and put in some speakers ;)
+Sean Scarmack Even if I won $5K to spend on a home gym, I wouldn't dedicate $200 of it to rack paint. I might finish the room's walls if I wanted it to look nicer. Drywall is $10/sheet, just sayin'... Anyway more power to Brandon for doing it his way with his hard-earned money. To me, $200 is five months' gym membership. Easy choice.
People can't stand when someone has nicer things than they do so they feel a need to pick it apart. It's his money and he can spend it on whatever the hell he wants. Dumb ass comments. Nice gym man, enjoy!
+joeysixtysix The reason is because they have already reached their humiliating potential as an adult and they are still poor. They can't accept the truth and don't want to change it either.
Not a bad investment. The home gym would pay itself off in roughly 4.5 years considering the cost of my current gym's monthly dues. Of course, this isn't taking into account the convenience factor of having a gym in the basement.
I'm gonna slowly start building my own home gym. Dealing with shitty people at the gym has been a huge motivation killer for me. No excuses if it's in my basement. Good video man.
Some of these comments are making me go crazy hahah. I 100% agree with your decisions. It's such a big difference in quality, longevity and consumption of time to do these things yourself. Anyways, I hope to see some gnarly PRs on your new equipment! Looks pearled!
I got several hundred pounds of steel plates by buying olympic weight sets on sale from Dick's. The bars from those sets are shit so I bought a quality bar from rogue. Then, I made a deadlift platform and had a simple and sturdy rack custom fabricated for pretty cheap. 800 lbs of steel, a rack, a bench, a good bar, and a couple of odds and ends ran me a little over $1100 or so. It's not overly pretty but it does the job.
+Rachelle Watson you're absolutely right. I spent something close to what he did and factoring in monthly membership fee, gas to and from gym, and driving time saved..it'll have paid for itself in 2 years. Plus you cant put a price on waking up, walking downstairs and jumping right into a workout and doing whatever you want when you want, without waiting.
What is next on this list? GHD? Dumbbells? ...pec deck? Also, can you fit 6 bumpers on the bar or are you gonna have to pick up some iron plates? I used to lift at a gym with those plates and I feel like you couldn't get more than 5 plates on plus collars.
Technical question: why the safety bar straps instead of steel safety pins? What is the advantage or difference on use? Thanks, I use the rack for heavy shrugs, squats and bench press limited movement work, and presses.
+Matty Dyer that can hold a thousands pounds? Yeah sure bud. He's obviously splurged a lot on his gym. in my opinion too much. But a solid adjustable bench will cost quite a bit.
Any plans on getting an adjustable dumbbell set for the home gym? I've owned the Ironmaster Quick-lock dumbbells for about 5 years now and they're just as solid as they day I bought them. They can be adjusted from 5-120lbs in 2.5lb increments, which I find handy.
+adavis89 Debating if I want to go adjustable or just buy a few pairs. If I find one that's cost effective and also gives me good return on the value maybe I'll pull the trigger.
Got to factor in the fact he doesn't have to drive to the gym. Probably only costs 10-20 minutes of your time and a couple bucks in gas but 4x a week, 52 weeks a year that adds up. Also after 200 months he still has all the equipment in perfect working order. It will still be worth a couple thousand bucks even in twenty years time because this stuff all lasts. So big initial investment but pays for itself over and over in the long run
All I have in my homegym is a power rack, a barbell, a bunch of plates (I collected over time). The power rack has a dip bar and a pull up bar. I also have an adjustable angle bench. I have all of this for under 1 grand. I bought the power rack from a friend who was moving and never used the rogue power rack he bought. I got my plates from various sources. The first ones were from him. Then I bought some bumper plates from a gym that was closing because I like to Oly lift (trained under an oly lifting coach for 2 years, so I know the correct form and such). The bench was the only thing I bought new.
Hobbies are super expensive. Suggestions: deadlift blocks, safety squat bar, chalk bowl, mirrors, lat pulldown/row/cable machine for accessories, powerblock dumbells and of course a punching bag to vent when your lift won't go up. You might want to consider adding hooks to the platform somehow for deadlifts with bands - if that makes sense.
+Matthew Barnard You can do a legitimate Rogue everything gym for less than $2K, and that's not the light Echo series. This is the Monster Lite line.-RML-390F Rack -Extra Plate Storage-Ohio Power Bar-425 lbs of plates-Matador Dip station-Landmine attachment-Total - $1825Buy yourself a decent bench on amazon and you are sub $2k.
definitely not a budget gym. 300 dollar york olympic bar and 160 dollars for 300 pounds of rogue bumper plates is the simplest and cheapest way to start out. I've dropped bumper plates on concrete for over 2 years. Works fine and the needle bearings still work just fine on the bar.
great set up. Who cut the Rogue rack for you? Can you order it cut? Also, I am guessing that means you can do standing presses as you would crush the plates into the ceiling. I'm in the same situation there. Thanks
Did you end up putting a resin over the center piece of pine wood? I want to put a decal on my platform but I don't know if I should use epoxy or polyurethane to cover vinyl decal.
I put a few coats of polyrethane spray on all the wood, but then applied the decal on top of it. The one I bought I paid a bit extra for "high traffic" stickers. I guess they're supposed to be able to take more of a beating.
This is my dream home gym for when I save up the money and get my first home. Except it would be in the garage so I could open up the doors and train in the fresh air.
+E Hustle Entertainment Suicide is the ultimate goal of his philosophy. Becoming completely fulfilled with ones life to the point of not wanting to live anymore is the idea.
+Brandon Campbell I moved to a suburban environment where people buy this kind of stuff everyday. Yes, I am bitter. I could cut the tops of those off in 10 minutes with a $80 tool that's no harder to use than a can opener. Painting is way more reasonable since it'll take way more work, but we're still talking a couple hours tops excluding drying.
Mirin hard. How are those straps on squat fails as compared to pins? The only thing I worry about with getting straps like that is that if you fail a squat and drop it behind you, it seems like it would land on the slope of the strap, slide down toward the middle, and slam into your legs or back, depending on how you're positioned after dumping the weight.
+Too2totwo You can alter the position and slope of the straps to your choosing, so you can get pretty creative. They're rated to handle 10,000lbs and don't end up ruining the bar.
hey Brandon , any chance you want to get rid of one of those lock jaw collars? I need some new ones since my cheap ones took a dump and dont lock any more
I currently have a powertec rack and cheap weights. I am planning to buy this or the Elite FTS rack along with bumper plates since I am very serious about powerlifting and Olympic lifting.
Do you think you will put some sound equipment in there? I've always wanted a home gym like this where I could also blare the hell out of some music that I like.
hey man, I'm going to level with you. Do you think I can have one of those lock jaw clamps? I have cheap ones and the plates slipped off my dumbbell and missed hitting my head by a few inches
I wonder how much those racks actually cost to produce. The first time I used one I was surprised by how thin the metal is. it certainly doesn't seem like 2k worth of material, and they are modular and can be mass produced. It is one of the few pieces of gym hardware I think would be pretty easy to build yourself if you had the time and inclination.
It's just like anything in life tho. Low profiles tires, a big tv, an iPhone... All relatively cheap to make but the engineering and guaranteed longevity of them is usually what you pay for. And the brand as well
+Harlan Brent sure, I think you can appreciate the massive difference between making your own TV or tire and building what is essentially just a metal frame
I build my own for around 300$: pipings for squat + bench+dips rack, welding rods and andgle grinder discs: 20$. Weights - bought broken multi-gym machine and got major under price 150kg weights in 5kg each for about 150$ and the rest I spent on dumbell bars (not a great combination with 5kg weights) smaller weight plates (0.5 kg to 3kg pairs) and actual bench with situp grips. Oh and I forgot about 70$ on barbell.
In an earlier video I thought you ordered the rack from Sorinex and were having some customer service issues. Did you end up canceling the order? Just curious I was thinking about ordering some equipment from Sorinex myself.
Just got this rack on closeout and was wondering does the bottom crossmembers in the rack get in the way of deadlift when you put on some 45's? Thanks in advance.
Hey Brandon, I'm planning on building my own home gym. Regarding about the rack, how were you able to customize the height? I read somewhere that Rouge does not custom cut the racks.
I think it's a good investment, plus the most valuable part is not having to see insane people at the gym. I'm thinking of getting the SML-2 squat stand with arms. Probably never going more than 350 squat 250 bench so I think it'll be sturdy enough. Any input seeing as you researched it so heavily?
Sweet home gym Brandon. Just a quick question, if you were paying 40-50bucks a month for gym membership, and they had this equipment, would you feel satisfied? Would you consider the equipment (aside from bars obviously + plates) to fall under "commercial" or just "high quality home use application?"
Not to sound ignorant or anything, but isn't a barbell just a barbell? Same with plates, why spend so much on them? The weights in my home gym are as old as me (24 years), and they're in great shape.
Thanks for answering! My dad build his own home gym years ago, and the weights are in fact older tham i am (18). I've been traning for the past year and a half and i didn't really have any problems with them...
Sweet home gym dude! I got myself a 490 instead just because of the lower cost. Any tips for a relatively new lifter? (Only about 800 total for the big 3, just started lifting)
+Hobbes&Garfield Get on some good programming. I used to just try to do my own when i started and while I made progress, it was no where near the progress I made on a good program.
Nice gym man! Do you feel you can get complete workout with that? even a bodybuilding style workout? what secondary movements are good hamstring lifts you can do with a rack/dumbells? thanks
stiff leg deads is about all I've come up with for the hammies aside form squats/deads. if you're bored I put a squat PR on my channel. would appreciate constructive criticism! Thanks man
Custom squat rack is not as bad as I thought. Expected at least 1-1.5K for that rack. Why do plates gotta be so expensive doe :-(. How do you like the westside so far? I prefer rogue/Texas myself
i got some used equipment from craigslist; a power rack, bench, lat machine, 350lbs of weight, a weight tree, two straight bars, curl bar and some other accessories for about $500. definitely not as nice as yours, but it does the trick.
i have a benchpress with 1 bar, adjustable dumbbels. and a total of 70kg discs, i also have a trx and a couple of resistance bands.they costed me under 300$ and i can train all my body parts with them. ( im 15 yo and the nearest gym is 40 km from my house
Awesome!!! That overall cost of $5900 ain't that bad, I think you did pretty damn good with your selections. Your pretty much set for a while, now all you have to do is add a little piece here and there. Good job brother!!
You can do deadlifts, Pendlay rows, floor and standing presses, cleans and front squats with just a barbell. Those will work your entire body. Buy used and you will see Cost
+nustada Craigslist here doesn't have anything I'd want. I've been actively looking on it for 10 years. I also have horse stall mat in place, cost $30 a piece. I also showed some fat grips here :)
I've been working on assembling my home gym in March when we buy our new house, I'm wanting to get a good competition powerlifting bar and olympic lifting bar what are your recommendations?
you ever think about storing the 45s a little higher, bro? like maybe on the middle rack, so it's easier to grab and the lighter weights can go on the bottom or nah? am i overthinking this? stay big, bro.
Just out of curiosity why didn't you go with Pendlay elite bumper plates from MDUSA? They are less expensive and just as good if not better quality wise than Rogue. Not to mention sale codes they give out and the free shipping would've made them a much better deal. The plates are used by California Strength and the MDUSA weightlifting team which beats the shit out of them regularly. If they can hold up to that you using them for squatting, benching and deadlifting is nothing in comparison. I'm not knocking rogue because I own some great products from them (except the chan bar and Spud Farmer Walk Handles...don't ever buy them) just curious why you didn't get Pendlay plates instead.
+Cody Austin I looked at them, but they were priced higher outright (didn't see any codes at the time I ordered either). Since I was already getting a bunch of stuff from Rogue, I had already paid for the shipping fee as well. The Rogue ones have a higher durometer rating as well (which I doubt will make too much of a difference in the long run for myself), but overall I think it would have ended up being fairly similar in terms of overall cost.
Lost me at spending $200 for the rack to be blue.
+cheezwhizvids Yep.
+cheezwhizvids What's $200 when you're already spending 2k...If 200 is crazy to you, then you shouldn't be looking at a 2k rack, just saying.
+Sean Scarmack IMO $200 is better spent on many other things in a home gym than a blue paint job, regardless of how rich you feel you are (and I didn't get a "money-is-no-object" vibe from this video). Such a great investment! This would pay for itself in like 4 years with the money you would save on gym memberships!
+Rachelle Watson You pay 1500$ a year for Gym Memership? wut
+rogue voleur Probably something like crossfit. Membership for that stuff is like $150/month. Or perhaps an Olympic lifting gym.
That means you gEt coaching, and classes or something.. in wich case home gym cant replace that but yea, thts my thinking

skeptical on those crossfit "45s"

+Thesaltyseafish Yes b/c I'm sure it would have been more efficient to cut the steel myself with some scissors...

never seen straps on a rack. can those handle the weight you put up?

You could have cut it by yourself with a grinder and saved $200.
No I couldn't have.
lol
I want get those safety strap but Rogue don't sell them They only got the twist and pull ones for the RML where did you get them?
They discontinued these b/c the newer version are so much better.
I totally would workout in the basement with this.
But not in this basement. Man, what an ugly room...
lol
hey Brandon , any chance you want to get rid of one of those lock jaw collars? I need some new ones since my cheap ones took a dump and dont lock any more

The shit is overpriced, still ur gym is awesome)
lol thanks
Hey Brandon, when you got the top of your rack cut did Rogue do that for you or did you have to take it to a local machine shop?
I paid extra for them to do it so it was a clean cut and clean paint job.
I currently have a powertec rack and cheap weights. I am planning to buy this or the Elite FTS rack along with bumper plates since I am very serious about powerlifting and Olympic lifting.
+FSociety Some solid choices!
I was wondering, since you compete in powerlifting where the lifts are in kilos, why didn't you pick that for plates as opposed to pounds? Thanks!

+throwdown47 I'll have to show what I'm using right now, not a bad lil set up
Can you let me know who you used to make the platform logo? I would like to make a personalized logo to add to mine.
+Jarrod Stead yes, an online company called echo graphics.
no dumbbells mate? besides the small ones lol.
+MuscleNMind They have them!
+MuscleNMind i have such big dumbbells...
hey man, I'm going to level with you. Do you think I can have one of those lock jaw clamps? I have cheap ones and the plates slipped off my dumbbell and missed hitting my head by a few inches
+MegaAbomb Can buy them on amazon for like $20-$30, solid investment!
+Phlegm Atic I don't know, I've used a lot of racks and this one is more solid than most.
TRUPAC12 I wouldn't want that.
How much room did you leave between the wall on the left, and the rack?
few feet b/c I had space. I've since rearranged my set up a bit.
How come you didn't get any heavier dumbbells ? Do you not like DB movements? Awesome setup, well worth the money in my opinion.
Don't really have a need for them. The cost and space they would take up wasn't worth it IMO
Yeah, I didn't mean a rack full of 'em, but something like a plate loaded DB or so, but it's fair enough if you don't need them. Great content, man !
$257 for that platform?? I've seen heavily used and smaller platforms for like $800 around my area. Where dis you buy that at?
Made it.
@@BasementBrandon that's bad ass. Nice gym bro
Are you able to do over head presses in the rack?
Not really. I'm too tall for that with this ceiling.
In an earlier video I thought you ordered the rack from Sorinex and were having some customer service issues. Did you end up canceling the order? Just curious I was thinking about ordering some equipment from Sorinex myself.
+Mat Sharon Neves Yes, I talked about the situation in the video where I show the building of the platform I believe.
How come you didn't drywall the ceiling
+Carlos Manzo b/c the basement isn't finished yet lol
Hey Brandon, how did you get your 690C cut the 5 inches? Did you ask Rogue to do it?
Yep!
Just got this rack on closeout and was wondering does the bottom crossmembers in the rack get in the way of deadlift when you put on some 45's? Thanks in advance.
+JoeCnNd Nope!
Very nice! When are you offering memberships to your home gym?
+Iscovimi Garga Probably should to help offset the cost.
Where did you order the custom decal on lifting platform from?
echodgraphics
Any chance you could link where you got those bands?
+mhtripp45 A mix of Rogue and EliteFTS
Can you do a video on squat/deadlift mobility and flexibility?
+Ryan McKinstry I have a few!
Hey Brandon, I'm planning on building my own home gym. Regarding about the rack, how were you able to customize the height? I read somewhere that Rouge does not custom cut the racks.
+Joseph Lu They do, you just need to put that in the notes field when purchasing.
Awesome thank you for your response! Much appreciated !
How did you get that design on your platform looking to get one done on mine too
+Brendan Sutherland Got a wood laminate sticker made from Echod Graphics
I think it's a good investment, plus the most valuable part is not having to see insane people at the gym. I'm thinking of getting the SML-2 squat stand with arms. Probably never going more than 350 squat 250 bench so I think it'll be sturdy enough. Any input seeing as you researched it so heavily?
+mdamiano88 I don't think you can really go wrong with Rogue. It's a bit pricey but the quality is top notch.
Sweet home gym Brandon. Just a quick question, if you were paying 40-50bucks a month for gym membership, and they had this equipment, would you feel satisfied? Would you consider the equipment (aside from bars obviously + plates) to fall under "commercial" or just "high quality home use application?"
+Jason 56 Likely be more satisfied but training at home for me is much more convenient
did Rogue cut down the height for you or did you have someone else do it and have to paint the end?
I had them cut it.
where did you get all those resistance bands for $70 total?
+Kyle Millinger Rogue
Do you have any desire to buy some Dumbbells eventually?
+Zach Burkhalter Maybe in time, but that's another big ticket money item.
+Brandon Campbell agreed. No real need anyway, anything extra to what have you now would just be a bonus
Does Rogue offer assembly services?
+dbsasuke Not sure, wasn't hard to put together.
Not to sound ignorant or anything, but isn't a barbell just a barbell? Same with plates, why spend so much on them? The weights in my home gym are as old as me (24 years), and they're in great shape.
No not at all.
How so? I'm wondering the same thing myself.
The material, the build quality, the tensile strength, whip, bushings, collars, knurl, etc...
Do you feel you can get complete workout with that? even a bodybuilding style workout? what secondary movements are good hamstring lifts you can do with a rack/dumbells? thanks
+Josh Anderson So far I've been able to "fit it all in"
stiff leg deads is about all I've come up with for the hammies aside form squats/deads. if you're bored I put a squat PR on my channel. would appreciate constructive criticism! Thanks man
why not 25kg plates? all those 20kg bumpers looks kinda strange to me
+Goriaas No real need.
That's a really dope set-up, Brandon. How much does the E-Z Curl bar cost btw? Also, are you still going to go to your regular gym from time to time?
+SIHIAIDIY It was $53, not planning on paying for a gym membership anymore!
Custom squat rack is not as bad as I thought. Expected at least 1-1.5K for that rack.
Why do plates gotta be so expensive doe :-(. How do you like the westside so far? I prefer rogue/Texas myself
+Haaris Majid Training Love it, feels good but doesn't cut my back up squatting
i got some used equipment from craigslist; a power rack, bench, lat machine, 350lbs of weight, a weight tree, two straight bars, curl bar and some other accessories for about $500. definitely not as nice as yours, but it does the trick.
+iwishiweregay Solid man! I've been searching craigslist for years and could never find anything.
Where did you get the logo from and how much did it cost?
Used a company called Echodgraphics, the price varies on size, finish, etc. The one shown here cost around $50.
were do I find the same bench ?
Rogue
i have a benchpress with 1 bar, adjustable dumbbels. and a total of 70kg discs, i also have a trx and a couple of resistance bands.they costed me under 300$
and i can train all my body parts with them.
( im 15 yo and the nearest gym is 40 km from my house
Nice, that wouldn't work for me.
Awesome!!! That overall cost of $5900 ain't that bad, I think you did pretty damn good with your selections. Your pretty much set for a while, now all you have to do is add a little piece here and there. Good job brother!!
+Jorrellfitness Yeah hopefully can find some deals on the other stuff
You can do deadlifts, Pendlay rows, floor and standing presses, cleans and front squats with just a barbell. Those will work your entire body.
Buy used and you will see Cost
+nustada Craigslist here doesn't have anything I'd want. I've been actively looking on it for 10 years. I also have horse stall mat in place, cost $30 a piece. I also showed some fat grips here :)
Brandon Campbell
Yeah, looks like I got ripped off on the mats. At that price, I am tempted of covering my entire basement floor.
I've been working on assembling my home gym in March when we buy our new house, I'm wanting to get a good competition powerlifting bar and olympic lifting bar what are your recommendations?
Ohio Power Bar. Best bar for the price.
you ever think about storing the 45s a little higher, bro? like maybe on the middle rack, so it's easier to grab and the lighter weights can go on the bottom or nah? am i overthinking this?
stay big, bro.
+DYB Could do that, I just prefer to have the weights go from heaviest to lightest.
