Thanks for this. I always speculate with my friends about what AI will do to the workforce, despite being totally unqualified to do so 😂 It's great to get some insight from an industry professional. As someone who is involved in Japanese/English projects, I can say some similar things about machine translation as well. AI is enhancing what we do; not replacing us. Although, that day may come one day?
I doubt you'll be replaced. Language holds a huge amount of nuance and context under the surface level of what the definition of individual words are. AI might be able to do a significant portion of the grunt work, but it won't ever be able to replace a person. TL;DR: AI doesn't speak, only people do.
For now, my best prediction is that those who leverage AI will replace those who do not leverage AI. Of course, this is very fast moving field. I don’t think we will completely understand the impact of AI until we look at it in retrospect.
Robotics and technology in general has already displaced so many jobs. The auto industry, Amazon distribution centres and fast food outlets are good examples. As AI improves and becomes more accessible this trend will just continue.
I’ve resisted it, but sometimes there is no choice but to use self-checkout. As far as industrial robots, you are correct. If I recall, Tesla factories are almost completely automated or will be in the near future.
Here's a disturbing quote from Mustafa Suleyman (CEO of Microsoft AI): "Your computer or your AI, your Copilot, is clearly going to understand everything that you're bringing to the table. Your emotional state, your intellectual state, what you need to get done that day, your interests, your hobbies, your personal knowledge graph, your family, your dislikes. So it's not just that it speaks our language, it's actually that it is able to reason over what we see, what we hear, what we believe and think. So it's more than just an interface, it is a new plane of connection that I think is just like fundamentally different. And it's going to feel, as I've long said, like a new digital species. I mean, it is going to feel like a member of the family, like another layer of connectivity because you're going to have an AI, I'm going to have my AI, those AI's are going to connect with one another in advance and brief you brief me follow up afterwards, so it's kind of kind of be like a second brain. I think of it as like outsourcing a lot of the mental processing to a very reliable, highly accurate, completely interactive thought partner and companion that is going to help make me much smarter, more productive, feel more supported and so on is very, very different to just using a computer in the way that we do today." ---Interview on 'Rowan Cheung' RUclips Channel Dec 5, 2024- "Mustafa Suleyman on Copilot Vision, AI Companions, Infinite Memory, AI Agents, and more"
Wow, that’s quite expansive. I am still not used to writing an email where my computer tries to finish my sentences, but I do appreciate it when my phone can guess correctly what I’m trying to write. ⌨️

The more he uses his AI "companion" the more it learns and the faster it can replace him
I think we’ll know more when looking back at this time in history.

You have a false sense of security. AI shit is coming, give it some time. Major disruption
Will AI reduce the backlog?
AI won't work in Japan because all their documentation is still still on PAPER 🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to see an AI write by hand 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t give the machines any ideas.
