"the dog has been destroyed" - mr. bullet
The half-life 2 zombie scream was gold as well.
is your tattoo on your right wrist a reference to anything?

There is a dark truth behind that line but I'm not going to share that information on a happy video.
The internet doesn’t deserve you Joel, this is art
So happy to see this comment.
Its like my two favorite sides of the internet just shook hands
Love seeing you here, you’re a man of culture
Ofc Brandon is here. Man of high culture.
weird, creative, funny youtubers supporting each other
It's maybe not what we deserve but what we needed
for those interested, the scream is called the "howie scream" and is a distant younger nephew of the classic "Wilhelm scream" (which is much older). Named after Howie Long and attributed to his perfomance in 1996's Broken Arrow, but was actually debuted in the 1980 "the ninth configuration"
Thank you for this information ! First time I heard it was in Half Life 2 and everytime i heard it after I thought people took it from the HL2 zombie but it was the other way around 😅
thanks! i was trying to think of the name
I remember it in Star Wars: Dark Forces as the sound when you fall to your death. I also heard it in the opening credits to Ahhhh! real Monsters! Or w/e it was called.
it was in starcraft: brood war when you select the terran academy
@@cranburybog7675 okay yup, that is where I first heard it. It was driving me insane I couldn't remember why it was so familiar
I can never tell if Joel is acting or being sincere. Dude is hell of a dialogue writer.
100% Pure Joel.
I think Joel is that one guy who holds the door open for people that are awkwardly too far away. But now after seeing how much he enjoys seeing the 'adult run', I think he does it on purpose.
That adult run thing is so painfully relatable
I feel like I don't remember how to run anymore.
when youve been an "adult" for so long you forgor how to run
I wonder if I can still climb a tree
@@ogedeh I wonder if I can still jump. I'm too tired to try.
It became such a point of contention in my long term relationship that when we're out together and one of us needs to do it we just run fucking full pelt and to hell with the consequences.
Everything about the car scene was phenomenal. The angles, the lighting, the cars driving around you guys. 10/10 comedy gold
you're SO right about everything getting so nitpicky... it's so annoying! Anyway, I really didn't like how you started this video, it seemed a little aggressive? I'm gonna make a 35 minute reaction video now and response to what I think you said!!!!
As long as you make it snarky and take a moral high ground I’ll watch it!
Posivity.
I agree with the absurd nitpicking going on all the time and it bothers me just as much as you picking the easy low hanging fruit of a joke to go with.
@@imaverageatgamesbutimostly3431 I agree, nitpicking and being negative is the worst! Almost as bad as you calling out the OP joke. What's with that? We need to do better as a society... In which we live...
I like how joel was able to freeze time and space to explain the adult run, but he still put his hazard lights on
that's relativity for ya;)
It’s only got a small AoE tho as you can see other cars passing by. When he gets up to level 20 that li’l bug oughta be hammered out pretty nicely
That scream at the end is actually called the Howie scream, it's a stock sound effect that is often used in movies/ games.
I love the Howie scream, it’s so over the top compared to the Wilhelm which makes using it organically almost impossible. Except Beethoven’s 2nd they used it great in that.
@@Joel-Haver This scream is quite well known to us 2000 gamers, because it's used by one of zombie types in Half Life 2, and is quite well known for that.
It's also used as Terran Academy sound in Starcraft.
I learned something new
@@DeonGaming "This scream is quite well known to us 2000 gamers"
Me: "Yes! Starcraft academy scream! Great shout ou-"
"because it's used by one of the zombie types-"
"Wait, what?"
Maybe I'm more of a 1998 gamer. At least you got there in the end!
@@DeonGaming all I remember is "yabah, my icing!!"
The perfect sync of "link it" and the picture of Lincoln makes my brain happy.
Your warmth and genuine compassion with the goal to bring a respite from the darkness around us all is so comforting and refreshing. Thank you for inviting us all for the ride and for being uncompromisingly yourself with every video.
Joel feels like the friend we've all known for a while and meet occasionally, every other month or so, and it's always a slightly awkward, deeply enjoyable encounter that makes it feel like the good time can come back.
We are the reason we don't hang out as much tho, Joel isn't the problem
@@wbaldwin666 100%
Exactly!
He's definitely got a My Dinner with Andre vibe.
I'd definitely be his friend. I'm socially awkward as well it's just I'm a little dark about it.
For those who don't know, the scream from Beethoven is a famous sound byte called the Howie Scream and is right up there with the Wilhelm Scream in popularity. A lot of film makers throw it in the movie as a fun inside joke or running gag. It's actually my favorite scream!
StarCraft Terran Academy uses it.
eric Andre uses it
Zach the sound lad uses it
@@rmvdhaak I thought I was going mad that I knew that scream from my childhood and yes it was starcraft!
never knew! in Counter Strike Source zombie mod whenever someone was slashed and turned into a zombie, you'd also hear this scream
Dude, you brought back stuff I hadn't thought about in *decades.* I'm in my mid-30's, so I actually saw the first 2 Beethoven movies when they were in theaters (I would've been 7 or 8 at the time I think.) I didn't remember a lot from the first one, but I did remember 'the dog's been destroyed' line when you played it, and the villain wanting to shoot the dog for reasons that weren't even that clear to me as a kid. 'He's an evil guy who wears glasses, ergo he wants to shoot the dog', seemed to be all the logic that went behind it.
For some reason I remembered the second movie a lot better. I remembered the scene of the creepy dude locking the girl in the room (from the inside, no less?) and how the dog collapses the front of the lakehouse and a bunch of people fall into the water. What I *didn't* remember was that a group of teenagers pouring beer on the dog was the catalyst for the whole ridiculous sequence, or that they played that amazing stock scream during that dudes fall. LOL. Laughed my ass off when you played it just now. Anyway, thanks for bringing back these absurd memories and giving me the chance to laugh at them nearly 30 years later, because I sure as hell wasn't gonna look them up on my own.
On a sidenote: I always think it's hilarious how movies basically portrayed teenagers as absolute sadistic psychopaths in the 80's and 90's. 'Hur hur, we're gonna pour beer on the dog because fuck him, hur hur.' I actually remember being somewhat afraid of teenagers as a young child because of the image movies had burned into my head.
Kids movies were some crazy shit back then.
I really want this as a new genre of video. Just people sharing what makes them happy. I love this so much.
I would 100% watch a series of just you and Droodle discussing absurd and obscure movie scenes. That bit had me dying!
YyYyAAAaaAaaAAAaaAAaaaAAAaaaAaaaAARRrrhhhHHHGGG!!!!!!
I never appreciated how darkly hilarious the Beethoven 2 scene was until now. Thank you for the breakdown.
couldnt she have just... unlocked the door?
Joel is such a humble, down to earth and genuine person
I think the adult run is very polite. It's like saying "thanks for your generosity imma try not to inconvenience more than I have to, but I am a scrambly old hack so I'll have to do the best I can manage rn"
This makes me happy. Nothing crazy, just fun and positive. Thank you Joel.
The internet is flawed but you are a beacon of hope
I thought you said bacon
@Don't Read My Profile Photo ok
I have some bacon and dope
He’s no angel. “Just some guy” a dying breed 😢
This has humongous Manic Pixie Dream Boy energy. Very Amélie. And you know what, I enjoy it.
I’ve had a really rough couple of weeks. This came at just the right time. Thank you Joel. Made me feel like I was hanging out with good friends and just laughing about silly stuff.
you're an angel for this
I'm going to kiss you.
No room for nuance
Or maybe a monster.
Hey berd.
No berd he's a mobster
The breakdown of the adult "half-run" with Ben Ball had me mad crackin ROFL! I find your sense of funny fun and humorous, I think I'll keep watching! 🍄📽
It’s the Wilhelm scream. It’s been in something like 400 movies, and it’s always a delight.
"LINCOLN IN THE DESCRIPTION"
That humor was absolutely legendary, I have never laughed so loud in my entire life
Joel, my brother. As much as I love the scripted stuff, you HAVE to make more of these. This video is my new absolute favorite.
wdym scripted
I remember how enthusiastically you two needed to show me that scene from Beethoven 2 on the tape. frantically rewinding it to find the right spot. good time
I watched the second Beethoven movie a lot as a kid. I don't remember it very well now, but every now and then I'll be gripped by this thought, "...was there a rape scene that ended with a house collapsing?" but I never look it up.
I guess I finally know I wasn't crazy.
THAT scream is definitely a stock scream similar to the Wilhelm, scream because I have heard it a few places before!
Bro, the part about the "adult run" is something I've noticed and commented on for years! It's like this half-hearted attempt to look like you're trying to go "faster" for the person waiting for you, but, as you said, it's barely (if at all) faster than a regular walk! It kills me every time I see it! 🤣
It’s really a social necessity. If someone holds the door for you, but you’re still a ways away from the door, it would seem rude to keep walking at the same pace, but if you took off and actually ran toward them you would look like a lunatic. Even jogging toward them would be too weird.
@@timmiller1 DUDE! It's the same thing!
@@timmiller1 we're doomed to keep adult running 😢😂
@@jovalleau It's a gesture my man. The backbone of etiquette. Gesture is communication, not action, so it doesn't need to be faster.
+1 to what @dopaminecloud said, it plays an important social function in that it distinguishes you from the people who seem to make it a point to saunter across the street as slowly as possible. Both types of folks are trying to send a message about what they think about you and your incidental presence in their life.
THANK YOU for discussing this scene from Beethoven 2! It has lived in my brain for thirty years, and your discussion was the closure I needed.
Thank you Joel! This was another wonderful video!
Anyone else remember that Beethoven scene where the bad guy gets impaled and injected by a bunch of euthanizia injections at once and literally dies. I was genuinely disturbed by that as a child.
This is up there with the "put the puppy down" scene. My non-English speaking father would always reenact this scene with us as kids and we would always crack up.
Thanks for bringing all these good memories back Joel.
something about you guys having the same Heironymus Bosch painting in your greenscreen rooms really made me laugh
That scream they used in Beethoven 2 is called the Howie scream. It's almost as popular as the Wilhelm scream and one, but definitely pops up in 80s and 90s movies quite a bit. Main 2 stock screams you could recognize anywhere for sure.
The "adult run" killed me lmao. Amazing video, I would love to see more content like this.
Oddly enough, the "adult run" saved Ben Ball's life. If he had moved any slower or any faster, he might have gotten hit by a passing car.
3:45 I've never talked with Joel on the phone before, but this is how I imagine every non serious phone conversation with him would go. I love that. ❤
Says the video is going to be “casual”. Drops an intensely precise, thoughtful, and ingenious video.
That Bosch painting really ties the whole room together. Totally on-brand.
good to know that Beethoven 2 is always living rent free in Joel's mind.
Joel, you're the only channel that I am determined to watch when new videos are put up. I am always thinking of what amazing stuff you'll put out next. I was not expecting this, but I absolutely love it! Very creative, and some real good laughs. This is actual content.
Check out LikeAFoxStudios that Joel has highlighted in the past, they have amazing stuff too but the algorithm doesn't like short form content.
I best know the Howie scream for being inexplicably used in StarCraft as part of the sound that plays whenever you click on the Terran Academy.
Dude I was crying laughing before 2 minutes. That damn rollie pollie thing was genuinely funny.
You are an angel, Joel.
I hope this catches on. We need more of this stuff especially in these dark and scary times
Every time has been a dark and scary time, we always need more of this stuff :3
Its super hard to make stuff. Thank you Joel for being such a genuinely great guy to other creators.
8:10 Ahhh The Howie Scream! Classic! That scream & Wilhelm tempts lazy sound editors again!
That was really nice of the Beethoven 2 editor to use Goodlongpee™ great video 3's scream. It was a little neat reference not everybody would get, yet they went for it
Glad to see Joel continuing his streak of being endearing af hahah Thank you, Joel!
I wore out an old tape of Dumb and Dumber as a kid the same way you did with Beethoven. The scene I kept re-watching was when Mary playfully tossed some snow at Harry and he immediately went into a murderous rage and just destroyed her face with a tightly packed snowball. The noise it made when it hit had me laughing so hard I was crying. I still think it's funny to this day, over 20 years later.
lmaoooo thank you for talking about the guttural pits of hell scream. I love when they use it in movies bc it always sounds so ridiculous, but its so iconic.
That funny scream is called the "Howie Scream", it's kind of like the Wilhelm Scream in that it pops up in all kinds of media. Now you know and you can use it in your own videos :•)
Howie was on one when he dropped that one fr💯
I’m glad to see you decide to post this right after your Ikiru video yesterday. I watched that movie last year and found it to be an incredible experience that made me want to appreciate life more. Somewhere along the way, I went back to my old ways…but your video came out at that particular moment during a particularly rough week and reminded me. Thanks, Joel. You’re a beacon of light in a world that can feel too dark
If you find yourself fading out back out of the present moment frequently your current routines may be a bit overpowering. Autopilot is a quality of dissociation. You'll have to craft time and space for appreciation; it won't just come for you.
I would be so happy if you made this a several part series. I loved watching you and your pal recall your favorite moments from Beethoven 1 & 2.
It is usually expected to see someone’s editing style grow and change as they post videos (over the last 10 years in this case.) but it’s a rare sight to also, simultaneously, witness the positive change and development of someone so kind and thoughtful.
So glad you’re on the internet, Joel! Gave me the happiness of seeing +1 more nice person in the world.
This video is honestly giga based, just a dude having a good time and trying to share his joy with us
i was really having a tough day, and now i’m smiling. you’re such a special being, so thankful for your efforts and craft. definitely one of the only creatives i look forward to seeing new content from
That scream sound effect is classic. I first heard it in the “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” intro music and its forever associated with that. I laugh every time a movie uses it.
8:22 I like how Joel often shoots in golden hour, sending us a bit of sunshine from the US our way
Joel is going to spend so long as a roly poly. Gotta make it count!
Great video Joel, these really are some truly funny things to laugh at. I'm gonna have to remember some of these when the dog bites or when the bee stings or when I'm feeling sad.
Some thing that makes me laugh: Bill Hader doing impressions of semi-obscure or now-forgotten characters like Vincent Price. More than the accuracy or funny bits, it's his enthusiasm for people as specific as Vincent Price.
bahaha I've never seen the howie scream used so unapologetically in a spot it does NOT fit. Incredible
I hope you get reincarnated as a rolly polly Joel.
This is a compliment btw
This sounds like it's coming out of left field, but I would love for you and Joe Pera to meet someday (if you haven't already) and make a fun film together. You're both so wholesome and wonderful.
Bro. You spent mad long describing how I run. That’s shits crazy LMFAO
the proper use of a turn signal when temporarily parking is a sight to behold
Joel is the most charming and wholesome man I swear
The problem isn't just "the internet," it's the way the internet exploits the worst parts of human nature. Anyway, putting positive stuff like this out there is a great way to personally contribute to the antidote. Thanks for being an inspiration Joel!
I feel like Joel intentionally didn't mention the "Howie Scream" because he wanted people to comment on the video that the scream is a famous scream called the "Howie Scream" that's similar to the "Wilhelm Scream".
"Now running might actually be a generous term. You might see the knees are barely bent now."
Joel is so wholesome and relatable. My hero!
I think yours is my favourite channel on RUclips, Joel. The humour is so relatable to me. And despite said humour and the sarcasm and many layers they tend to have, your videos are somehow so sincere and heartwarming. Love you. Keep doing what you're doing.
You forgot to mention the best part of that Beethoven scene. After the dog rips the house down, the girl yells out to the dog "Thanks Beethoven!" as if the dog was doing her a solid. 😂
The way the pedestrian froze in mid crossing while other cars kept moving was priceless
I genuinely think Joel is one of the best creators that's ever existed. There's just something so genuine about him that I've never seen before.
Joel, years after years, you continue to be one of my favorite youtubers. Watching your videos always puts a smile on my face, and I just hope working on these videos makes you as happy as it makes your viewers.
never change, you sweet prince of joy
Joel. I too think the adult shoulder bob run that is the same speed as a walk is one of the funniest things in the world to me.
I have been guilty of the Adult Run on numerous occasions. I'm going all out into the road next time.
If only there were more sweethearts like you around! Appreciate your positivity Joel❤
You have been my favourite RUclips for like a year now so it's always a treat to see a new upload especially when I spent the whole morning vomiting and needed something to cheer me up. Thank you for existing bro
Sorry to hear about the morning vomiting, I hope you feel better soon❤️
the second half caught me by surprise lol. hope you feel better
When Droodle (sp?) mentioned that you two wore out the tape from rewinding that part so much.. that really tugged on my heart strings
"There's no time!!!!" When the kid with glasses drives the car into the wall was line me and my brothers quoted all the time 🤣😂 gotta have the Wilhelm touch
Um drunk asf but i love this voice 💀
I want a friend like Joel, he just seems great, and so is the content that he shares!
A couple years ago, I also found a video that always makes me laugh. It's titled something like "POV: you just tuned into the history channel after 15 years." It always makes me laugh whenever I watch it. I've since subscribed to that RUclips's channel, and they still keep putting out videos that bring me joy.
Bosch's "The Garden of Earthy Delights" in both apartments was a nice touch. Great tryptic!
omg its the guy that ryan george shouted out
It always struck me how strange it was that they created such a beautiful love theme ('The Day I Fall In Love' by Dolly Parton and James Ingram) for such a sketchy "romance".
Just watched B2 last week with 5 yo daughter, and spent rest of the night watching various Howie scream compilations
One of the more jarring applications of the Wilhelm Scream right there. They should have cast Trent to play Beethoven.
This was delightful, Joel’s vibes are immaculate.
Very unusual that there was not an inclusion of the full hour and thirty five minute-long 2001 smash hit “Osmosis Jones” in this. Whatever the case, very informative and fun video, Joel!
joel, thank you so much for your positivity! i'm loving these skit formats btw! :)
Wait THE Droodle! Bruh "ur doing just fine" is one of my favorite songs ever! That's so crazy you met him on your van trip and became friends. Small world
Ryan from Pitch Meeting just asked me to check your channel out, so here i am.
Having never seen any of the Beethoven movies, I have no frame of reference to know whether or not you're making up the whole 'testing a bullet on a dog's head' thing and now I'm horrified and confused and very curious 😮
That guy screaming sounds exactly like a tie fighter from Star wars
Also, one thing I find quietly amusing is how, when you go to the theatre or a live show, and you're sitting in the rows of seats, people need to squeeze past to get to their seat, you stand up to make room, and people always say sorry. A 'Thanks' makes sense, or a nod and wry smile. But it almost always comes with a 'sorry'.
No idea why I find it amusing. People seem at times to be actively impolite most of the time, but with this, pure innocent politeness.
Droodle earned his place in heaven with UR Doing Just Fine. That song's gotten me through some really dark days. It's so great.
Epic and hard!
