At the same time Manirathnam conflicts with Raja in "Thalabadhi". He try to give chance "Magesh" (Nammavar Composer - Who passed later in Cancer). Manirathnam's sister introduced A.R.R to Manirathnam. In Roja movie Chitra sung "Rukmani" song only. In Hindhi also 1 song. Sujatha & Hariharangot a new life from "Roja"in Tamil & Hindhi, Asha Bhosle start her second innings with A.R.R in "Rangeela"
Dnt give wrong facts..Roja flim was the production of kavithalaya legend director K.balachander and balachander and Ilayaraja did not have good terms that time..Ilayaraja was very great that time most of the tamil flims will come with Ilayaraja song only since then balachander and Ilaraja had tussle.. balachander to dump Ilayaraja looking for different new music director then director mani introduced very young musician ARRehaman to bala chander and seeing his talent balu sir booked him for his flim Roja.. and Roja was the first flim for A.R.Rehaman... that's how A R Rehaman came in to the industry. Alkaji has sung only few nice songs for Rahmanji. KS Chitraji is the singer who sang highest number of Rahman songs. She is very down to earth, extremely talented and recipient of highest number of national awards in India

Yes she did refuse as according to her she called up singer Kumar Sanu and asked if he was going down to AR Rahman’s to sing the songs as per his request, however he replied no he wasn’t as he never heard of an AR Rahman, Alka Yagnik repeated the same thing and now leaves to regret it, I saw her interview. For us fans I think it was the best as if they did not refuse due to their big headedness we wouldn’t have had the chance to hear such beautiful composition/voice/songs/outcome the entirety were simply masterpiece

I agree. Kumar Sanu and Alka would have spoiled the songs. But don't generalise to all North Indian singers. Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal etc are very good.
Even if they would have agreed to sing, I am sure they would have only sung the Hindi dubbed versions, so nothing would have changed for the Tamil and Telugu audiences...for them the singers would have been same.

Dil se is a flop in North India but we south Indians know that movie is a cult classic. I still remember the movie Premadesham (1996) watching in movie theater. AR Rahman is a legend and remembered forever.
I also live in south India only . In south also I remember Not many liked the movie when it got released. But over a period of time it got its due respect when it came on television many times . DILSE is a difficult to understand movie . As we mature we tend to learn it to appreciate .

Yes she did refuse as according to her she called up singer Kumar Sanu and asked if he was going down to AR Rahman’s to sing the songs as per his request, however he replied no he wasn’t as he never heard of an AR Rahman, Alka Yagnik repeated the same thing and now leaves to regret it, I saw her interview. For us fans I think it was the best as if they did not refuse due to their big headedness we wouldn’t have had the chance to hear such beautiful composition/voice/songs/outcome the entirety were simply masterpiece
so being respectful to your scheduled dates and committments is big-headedness? Alka and Kumar Sanu were recording multiple songs a day. They would've had to go back on weeks worth of committments to fly out to Madras and work for a completely unestablished composer.

Alka yagnik can do justice to almost any song..her range is extremely versatile. This is not to compare her with any other talents as they all have their OWN uniqueness to bring to a song/album. I just personally prefer alka yagniks voice.

Dil se is a flop in North India but we south Indians know that movie is a cult classic. I still remember the movie Premadesham (1996) watching in movie theater. AR Rahman is a legend and remembered forever.

In south also I remember Not many liked the movie when it got released.
But over a period of time it got its due respect when it came on television many times .
