he is a great but underrated singer; one of the best of his generation. whenever i am down; i listen to his rendition of "bhakta jana vatsale" to ease my mind. his voice is soothing and comforting. similarly, bhupinder singh is another great but underrated singer. his rendition of "dil dhoondtha hai" is pleasant and nostalgic at the same time.

Unfortunately the music of this generation does not have the scope for the exceptional classical talents of the great Suesh Wadkar saheb. We have grown up listening to his songs, he is one of the last true classical singers who does not require mechanical modern equipment to enhance his voice. He is indeed a loss to the industry.
I wonder what prompted such a drastic shift in the music industry. Till the late 90s and even into the 2000s, we used to have a healthy mix of both popular and great music. Nowadays, apart from a couple of good songs a year, most songs are so bland, lifeless and predictable that it is difficult to sit through even the mukhda (pallavi). I know it is not just me as even today's youngsters who have an ear for music are quick to trash the current musical output.

You don’t know if he listens still to his grandparents music .. reality is many do whoever from 90s and some early 2000s still listens to 70s and 80 s music in repeat and enjoy because they are really good.. there might be not so good songs even in 70s and 80s but still the percentage would have varoed and more importance given to vocals than instruments.. now its more of chatbusters era which are good for party vibe etc where they come and ago .. but if u forward 10 years only very few songs of the current songs will stand out

Just want to tell that the composition do not follow the usual clichés in the prototype songs in the raga, hats off to the music director too. Also agree with your mention regarding his renditions. This seemingly simple composition aur kya ehde wafa is difficult, at least for me. The melody seems so simple but difficult to render easily. The notes and gamakas. The sangathi in the fourth line of each of the three charanams is three different ones, each time. Similarly the beginning charanams in seene mein jalan. So simple and melodious, but it takes a good effort and practice for persons like me to render it.

Once Rafi was supposed to sing for Usha Khanna. She was new at that time and Rafi was already established singer. However, Rafi saheb told her to not worry and she can ask him for retakes as many times as she wants. He never treated as newbie and never called her bachcha etc. The respect has to be mutual.

there are and were great singers in India who never got an Oscar. Who cares about Oscars. Many undeserving people get awards and many more deserving people do not get awards. After a long spell, I happened to listen to his Tamil song "naan enai arinthen..." and was mesmerised by his rich voice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I first fell in love with his voice in "Megha re, Megha re". He's very much underrated. Should get better recognition.

Kumar Sanu's voice is not suitable for the classy musical compositions of AR Rahman. Kumar Sanu had a very limited style which worked only with Nadeem Shrawan, Anu Malik and Jatin Lalit and that worked only for a short period of time, of a generation of people. His style phased out soon and now his songs sound more outdated than Rafi and Kishore Kumar songs. While others like Udit Narayan, Har Haran and others have the style and substance that will remain relevant regardless of time. Hence no need to cry over why Kumar Sanu sang only one song with Rahman.

Differences have existed in the music industry. Many people don't like Illairaja's egoistic approach- heard it first hand from people who worked with him, but he was a great composer. Young people like ARR for his humility and cool style in communication. The first song I sang in a music competition was Suresh Wadkarji sir's song from Utsav, Saanjh dhale... It sounds simple but I rehearsed some fifty times. He made complex songs sound simple. But he spoke very gently.
Yes.when you try singing his so called simple songs ,many get stuck. He sings like slow meandering water stream flowing melancholy ...he has unique style.never leaves melody

Also agree with your mention regarding his renditions. This seemingly simple composition aur kya ehde wafa is difficult, at least for me. The melody seems so simple but difficult to render easily. The notes and gamakas. The sangathi in the fourth line of each of the three charanams is three different ones, each time.
Similarly the beginning charanams in seene mein jalan. So simple and melodious, but it takes a good effort and practice for persons like me to render it.

However, Rafi saheb told her to not worry and she can ask him for retakes as many times as she wants. He never treated as newbie and never called her bachcha etc. The respect has to be mutual.

Later on wo thik ho gye to saari family ne convert kr liya. Hamaare side kuch Muslim Chhath krte h, unhone convert nhi kiya but usi type ka mannat wala scene h and yha Chhath maa ko sabse jyada mante h to logo ko lgta h inke yha mannat poori ho jygi. I think same happened with Kumar Sanu and Rahaman. Sad we couldn't enjoy more work of them together.
Kumar Sanu's voice is not suitable for the classy musical compositions of AR Rahman. Kumar Sanu had a very limited style which worked only with Nadeem Shrawan, Anu Malik and Jatin Lalit and that worked only for a short period of time, of a generation of people. His style phased out soon and now his songs sound more outdated than Rafi and Kishore Kumar songs. While others like Udit Narayan, Har Haran and others have the style and substance that will remain relevant regardless of time. Hence no need to cry over why Kumar Sanu sang only one song with Rahman.

Differences have existed in the music industry. Many people don't like Illairaja's egoistic approach- heard it first hand from people who worked with him, but he was a great composer. Young people like ARR for his humility and cool style in communication.
The first song I sang in a music competition was Suresh Wadkarji sir's song from Utsav, Saanjh dhale... It sounds simple but I rehearsed some fifty times. He made complex songs sound simple.
But he spoke very gently.
Yes.when you try singing his so called simple songs ,many get stuck. He sings like slow meandering water stream flowing melancholy ...he has unique style.never leaves melody

No wonder, only the greats like Yesudas, S Janaki, SPB, Vani Jayaram and later Shreya Ghoshal and Sadhna Sargam have been able to sing his difficult compositions. Without riyaz or practice and dedication, you can't produce great work.
I have heard that he is disrespectful to people by crossing out their lyrics or asking them to wait for hours, or being blunt or rude.

I was talking about people having differences in the working style. I am a musician and have more first hand information working closely with musicians and percussionists who have worked with both ARR and Ilairaja sir. I have in fact made a radio documentary on Ilairaja - that's my regard for his music. These comments are in response to the video.

.. many whoever from 90s and some early 2000s still listens to 70s and 80 s music in repeat and enjoy because they are really good.. there might be not so good songs even in 70s and 80s but still the percentage would have been less and more importance given to vocals than instruments.. now its more of chatbusters era which are good for party vibe etc where they come and ago .. but if u forward 10 years only very few songs of the current songs will stand out .. and still old songs will be evergreen
