  • Watch an explanation of the Browning 5-Pack & 6-Pack Upgrades for a knee mill Bridgeport spindle, including how they compare to the standard 3-Pack (3 bearing) design.
Bill Murphy of C & M Precision Spindle illustrates the key differences between each upgrade, including who should consider the upgrade, when it's the optimal time to get the upgrade, and why someone would prefer one upgrade over the other. Key points of discussion include how more bearings affect the spindle’s cutting precision, overall lifespan, and efficiency.
Also included in the video are helpful tips about bearings, spindle care, and the origins of the Browning name in the 5-Pack/6-Pack Upgrade.

Thank you so much, Jeff! Glad the 5-Pack is working out. You're the reason why we do this (:

Awesome info and video! Thank you very much.
I have always wondered how much wear accumulates on the spindle splines and how that affects the noise and performance. I've rebuilt a couple of Bridgeport Vari-Speed heads, and I always replace the Spindle Hub. Do you see worn splines in your work and what are your thoughts on this? Thanks again!

Depends on how they are used. We always see massive wear on the Hurcos. Especially in the center. How much torque and load is applied for how long. Some just need a new shaft others can be welded up but very rare and cheaper to buy a new one. Shafts have gotten way to pricey lately and the quality is softer. That center hole is a stopper for most shops to make unless they have a gundrill. Cheers

Do you offer this upgrade for a Clausing Kondia FV1 (non cnc)?

Yes that should work for a Kondia. 3 3/8" Quills. I had one shop send in 5 Kondias years ago and they were NEW. Nothing wrong but he had one Bridgeport done and his machinists were fighting over who got to use the worn Bridgeport vs the new Kondias! the spindle upgrade was the only difference. It was worth it to him for peace. Cheers, Bill

Never had a request for it. UPS covers the globe though.
