Bear gills 🤣😂 name him Bear Gills!!
Java fern is a low light, low nutrient plant that thrives in beginners tanks. As well as Java fern, Java moss is a great plant to provide cover on driftwood and rocks. Wood options include Malaysian, spider wood, manzanita wood, bogwood and a bunch of other kinds. Always do your research!
Can we get a pet peric
Wait his nose won't fit.
Can we please get a big nose bass
Gunslinger 301 yes
Lmao
Will Fant aye peric is a cool dude chill out
The LETTUCE. Won't fit
Gunslinger 301 ahahahhahahahahahahh lol
For plants: Java fern and Anubias are both very easy to grow without adding anything to the water, and both will grow attached to driftwood or rocks. I would definitely add some hard structure like Mopani or Malaysian driftwood. I would also get some surface plant. The easiest of which is Duckweed.
Beric
Chris. Crappie are way cleaner to have as a pet.
No worms just minnows for feed. I did 3 from 3" to 14" in 12 months. They are very mean to each other to even killing one off to be tops in the tank. Minnows bill here high, set up a small holding treatment tank for the minnows before letting any in the big tank that lives more than a minute. Way more fun, fun as bass.
Name it Bill the Gill
MallardDuck Aviation and Fishing or Wild Bill Gill
You could go get some driftwood from a lake, pond, river, etc, and boil it to cure it and release some of the tannins in the wood, but it would still release some tannins into the water.
do more fishing pet videos and feed it some guppies
Nickolas Devage no 15 cent goldfish
no not any they have parisites
I had the same setup, the spay bar got annoying, i replaced the airation with an air stone bubbler, use a filter sponge on it for extra filtration. Dont bother with too many plants would be my advice, try some driftwood with anubias or java moss attached. enjoy.
You need a heater, wave pump, GOOD filter, a thermometer that’s fish tank friendly, I recommend sand over gravel cause that’s what I use for freshwater fish tank; places for the bluegill to hide and have privacy, driftwood, real plants for oxygen, and make sure you do monthly water changes, stress coat, bacteria supplement, dechlorinator, and a water test kit!
Plants would look nice but not needed at all for air
And 25% weekly water changes will slow down algae growth on the sides
natives require no heater, in fact it can hurt them long tern to have no water temp variation
If you put in driftwood add macropore or purigen to your filter media to remove any tannins that leach out. A tank that size could handle 3 or 4 more of those fish, so I would have gone with a few of the smaller ones you caught instead of one large one. Anubias are good aquatic plants but you can always use the good old elodea in bunches.
Hey man you can set the hook for bluegill you just don't have to do it as hard as you would with a bass
petsmart has a nice selection of bulbs and i had a lot of succes with the lilly pad type ones. i have a little outdoors setup of 20 gallons and 2 medium size bluegills and it works great as a filtration and aeration system when you have pads in the water body. the bluegill also learn to recognize you fairly well and can go for weeks without food so they are a low stress pet. i've learnt that leaving lots of plants and even a little algae reduces their stress and keeps their slime coat nice and thick. bronze and bubbles are really thriving in my setup so bear grylls should do just fine
Get a bullhead catfish they are agressive eaters
Max Sisto TRUE
Hi Chris! Awsome video as always. It does not really matter what type of plants etc you have in it, as long as he has somewhere to hide and feel safe (been doing aquarium for many years). A log with a cavity /cave-like structure is perfect, with some plants covering some of the entrance. Keep doing what you do! Love from Norway
Gillbert 😃LIKE SO CHRIS CAN SEE
Cade Schumacher I have a bluegill named Gilbert
I like that name
another dope video Chris you really deserve the 100k!
Get a red tail catfish they look so cool and once he or she get big feed it stuff
Yeah, and they reach 4-5 feet in length... he doesn’t have the budget to house a fish that size
You should add some Vallisneria to the back of the tank as it would make it look more natural looking to his environment, as well as provide cover for him to hide in
happy gilmore
If you want some wood, you can do Manzanita or spider wood if you want really branchy, but if you want big chunks, go with Mopani or bog wood. You will have to boil those though. for a couple hours
I have a pet bass and I like your vids so I named him chris
Chris Mata haha I get the joke
Morebadideasfan 1 and then when your fish Chris drops out of college you can be disappointed in him too
Morebadideasfan 1 hey bro its you again from Moto madness
That's weird
I suggest you get some brighter lights in the tank and put them on a timer to turn off at night and on in morning. It will help your plants grow and make your fish look cooler in the water and just make the tank look better
Call him Jon B
So there are 4 common types of sunfish that look like bluegill. One is the bluegill itself, which is the lighter colored one. One is a redbreast sunfish which has the orange or red belly. Another is the pumpkinseed which looks similar to a bluegill but has orangish dots along the sides of its body. And the last is a redear sunfish which has a red spot on its operculum or gill plate and these get larger than regular bluegill. But there are also bluegill localities that occur in different states that may look similar to any of the above or they may be very dark or light in color with varying bars and patterns.
Like 5 bucks at walmart for a bubbler
Brandon Doten you dont need one for the tank
Void Rewind
Was talking about for the minnow bucket
Instead of bears grills call him blue gills lol😂
Go with Peric for a name Chris! 👍👍
Have you considered adding a crawfish to the aquarium? If crawfish and bluegills can live together in the wild, im assuming that they can live together in an aquarium...
Name it peric
Stocked up on that Dr. Pepper! That's what I'm talkin' about!
Cure the drift wood yourself find a piece and bake it in the oven to kill anything. Look it up for directions. Plants just look up beginner aquarium plants.
Chris Bulaw Jr.
Should have tried to catch a green sunfish or pumpkinseed they are the best pets

An interesting characteristic of male bluegill is its ability to mimic the coloration of the female. It does this when another male is spawning with a female. The female mimic will approach the female from the opposite side, and release milt to fertilize some of the eggs. By adopting the coloration of the female, it does not arouse alarm in the male.
I like fishing bluegills because they put up quite the fight for a littler fish and the next time you travel with fish like that put some ice in the water with the fish. The colder the water the less oxygen they take in.
Name him Sushi
You got the color identification correct! lol I 100% back Bear Gills!
That fish could have fed someone in Africa
Next time I catch a bluegill I will ship it to Africa
ur background makes sense
Ohh I think that's a great idea sense it would die and rot and they could eat its maggots
Also by your profile picture you should share some to so don't mouth.
All that food into you mouth
Congrats on the new family member! (Lee)
Peric knows so much about blue gill fishing because he's so used to catching small fish
One cool thing that I found out is that with a bluegill or any pan fish I know of if they eat good the bites good and if not eating a lot or nothing fishing is a less chance of nice fish. Just a tip I learned from my family member.
Anybody else notice the "transportation bucket" floating at 2:20?😂
I am a big fan and that is a pond that I fish in I throw a frog and I caught a 4 in there
Chris if you haven't already check out bama bass' tank Tuesday vids. If you go back a few months he has a few really good tips and warnings on adding things to your tank so you don't make your fish sick. Him and his wife seem very knowledgeable on the subject.
If you cover the little hook when fishing for bluegill, or sunfish with the bait it will be more effective
Try fishing with the plastic tail AND the wax worm. I've found it tends to weed out the bigger ones
Bear gills it pretty good asnd I have a pet large mouth bass now and I used to have bluegill, also here is advice for know when your fish has started eating you just get couple gold fish or minnows and just leave them in the tank once they are gone your gill has started to feel comfortable in it new home
Swords are great plants and grow huge and beautiful. 4 or 5 of them would look great in the tank
I use size 12 to 16 fly fishing hook, nice and bite sized.
You should put a decent sized plant that floats at the top of the tank so that he could chill in it
Prob should have added a few more things in there like more plants or some cool rock type of thing for it to hide or a nice rounded type of log or something where it can go under or to the sides of it
name him Bear Gills for a pun, lol
How about moss? I've seen some grow normal moss in water before. All you have to do is make sure theirs no dirt on it for some reason I can't remember. You can also do this with other non aquatic plants, so that might be worth looking into.
"Ooooh there's no bluegill in the tree"
XD
Name the fish Andrew, next is Alex, Jon and Rob. LOL
Chris, you have far from what you need to add live plants to that aquarium. Having done numerous large planted tanks, I will be happy to help if you want. Too much to list here.
16:08 actually you can just boil them first. Especially since you're keeping a wild fish. Think about all the tree brush and debris that falls into the pond it came out of
I'm thinking instead of Bear Grills.. Bear Gills. Lol
Used a steel head rod and it's fun
The smaller foam bobbers work better, they don't make a loud plop when they hit the water and there less visible
Get a sunfish like longear or pumpkin seed. Also get so cover in there for them so they dont stress so much
I had two big bass in a long 55 gallon(or bigger) when I was little. They lived a long while but I was too little to remember it much .
In my experience fishing which is just panfish the like 3 or 4 inches hit like 12 inches
Hope she gets better
You need to put like trees for cover asap. They get very stressed if you don't have any cover for them
Have you thought about a bull head catfish to add to the tank as well
Get a big log with branches with holes and tunnels make it like a actual pond
i would add a different kind of substrate like a more natural substrate maybe like a plant soil substrate instead of gravel but thats just a suggestion
Anybody else see the bucket floating in mid air while he was walking at the beginning?
Spencer Denniston
There was line attached to it and he was holding the line
Bear Gills would be a sweet name!!
I remember being a kid and my dad would take me to a pond and we caught monster big slab gills every other cast!
You should paint the back and sides of your tank, it helps keep the fish calm and he wont swim into the sides of the tank
Go for a green sun fish they get real big
you slapped the fish
lol haha
Get a current maker for the gill. He will love swimming in it
There is a very good bluegill pond near there there are big catfish in there
I love ur vids so much, i might keep a bluegill myself, keep it up chris
BG. Bear Gills , Blue Gill , Big Gill or just plain ole 🐡BG !!!!
Get some drift wood and java moss and amazon swords plants! Tank looks good man! Also you need some legit lights for the tank can't just have it be naturally lit, will looks 10000xs better with a light on it
Should have gotten 2 of them, that way the little buddy in there right now won't be soo lonely.
Call him Mr. Gillmore. LOL
Where was your arm when you were carrying the bucket at the beginning 😂
Bear grills sound great
I am thinking about catching 2 sunfish and putting them in a tank. I would get a 20 gallon aquarium BUT the sunfish are 2-4 inches long. Once they grew too big for the tank I will release them back into the creek. Any suggestions on what and how much to feed them?
The fish that swallowed the hook chances are it won't rust out. But good news, there was a study done with 27 blue gills. Out of the 27 only 3 died because of the hook being swallowed. Those 3 were already bleeding though before they were put in a tank. Out of the remaining 24, 17 of them expelled the hook themselves within 10 days. And the remaining 7 were still able to eat just didnt eat as much until they expelled the hooks some 2 weeks later.
Hay guys I need some advice I'm looking to catch some fish from a pond and I need to know if I need an oxygen tank for the fish and BTW the tank is going to be outdoor in a minipool
try putting in malaysian wood find those that has a hole or some cool shape on it make ur tank look as natural as you can
