After being out of mountain biking for about 10 years and the bike I was riding at that point was about 10 years old, I discovered all of the newfangled technology and proprietary equipment when I decided to get back in. Deciding which BB & crank and either Shimano vs SRAM was info overload since I wanted to build up a bare frame. Luckily, everyone I spoke to, including you guys, was quite helpful thru all of my phone call.
Great jobs guys! This is a PITA topic so thank you for the help! Toss in the SRAM DUB system and the Wheels Manufacturing conversation BB from PF to threaded and you’ll start drinking heavily!!!!!
OK,you suggested we ask. The info from the bicycle sellers states. "Bottom bracket VP-BC73 sealed bearing square taper." When searching online, there are plethora choices. Just as you stated! It is also suggested that a tool purchase is necessary. I don't have a problem with that. It's not a rocket launch! The info provided is complete per the sellers website. If you can help, that would be truly appreciated. No matter, thanks for the advice. Enjoy your day.
Used to have a Spanish, press fit, BMX bottom bracket. Upgraded to a SRAM threaded bottom bracket, and man is it way better, the bike pedals twice as easy.
Great video! It helped, thanks:) Now I know that likely the threaded 83mm Saint BB for my 06 Stumpjumper S-Works is likely compatible with other Shimano Hollowtech Cranks (1×;2×;3×), that the Saint is not limited to the 1x Saint Crank, but that the Saint 83mm BB is a heavy duty, down hill oriented system to work in the Stumpjumper, where the name suggests heavier duty. The smaller BBs can be for the Twig Rovers
My radcity Ebike uses an 83mm "downhill" sized BB though it's clearly a street bike. I like that they oversized parts. It really helps because the bike is more like a moped and less like a bike. The frame is a tank.
Cleared up a lot of confusion and questions. Next in this series could be head sets. Also, I'm curious as to whether upgrading to a high end bottom bracket (Chris King, etc.), is really worth the money, keeping in mind proper timely maintenance will be performed.?.?.?.
I was hoping to be able to get a new bottom bracket before pulling the one that's in my frame, but I guess that's not possible. I have a Triace A310 Stormount frame and I know the bottom bracket is square taper, this is a new frame, but the spindle doesn't want to turn easily, so I figure there's a problem with the bottom bracket, I would also get a new spindle and since I have Shimano cranks the brand is easy, but I'm not sure on the size, so I guess I'll be pulling the bottom bracket. Thanks for the guidance that the video gives, it was enlightening.
Hello i was curious if you can tell me what kind of bottom bracket i need for my mountian gt karakdram xl 29er. I took it out and it was destrooyed and didnt realize i should of kept it. i believe it was sealed
Funny used the Seinfeld theme. That's where I first saw a Klein mountain bike Jerry had one hanging in the background a green beautiful one! Now that I really know about them he had very good taste!
Running out of ideas? Nah just kidding 😉 But I'm not sure if this is possible for you to do, but I would really like you comparing Mid end and High end Forks and shocks. Not for racing but for regular mountain bikers like most of us viewers and can one really tell a big difference. For example A RockShox Relevation and a Pike RCT 3 or 🦊 Rhythm 34 and a Factory 34 and everything in the middle.
And also would like to see how to service a Fox fork and when to actually do that, I know there are recommendations but it really depends on the conditions of your riding and how much you ride how hard etc... I have had my Fox 32 Performance Elite fork for 1 year and 3 months now and I have never serviced it, but there isn't appeared any major problems. Do I still really need to service it?
But I have always kept the seals and stanchions in tip top condition I always clean the fork really clean so I don't think any dirt really has got into there
I have a Schwinn Ascencion 2022. Axel 140 mm, Bottom bracket 73mm, and 33mm? housing. Is there a bottom bracket that comes with an axel with these measurements?
my bottom braket thread is damaged and will not thread in smoothly, ive decided that the safest bet would be to just get a new bottom bracket but i have a dh bike with an 83 mm bottom bracket, it says x type on it and a cant seem to find out what this means and dont want to get a bottom bracket that soesnt work for my crank set, do all crank sets fit or is x type relevant, or is there a place a to get a raceface dh x type 83 mm bottom bracke?
Funny thing. I bought a new Enduro, and in the first ride I bent the crank from a pedal strike. I asked the shop I bought the bike from what is my bb standard so I can order a new crank. His reply was "I am not gonna give you the recipe to my secret sauce." I was a bit disappointed with the answer but at least I got RUclips to save the day.
I would've done a drive by and shot the place up. That's when you call the manufacturer and report that shop (and get the info) ... Also every shop should not only help with that, but give you a manual with all that info in there. Seriously, I'd flip my lid, but I know my LBS would never do that Busch league stuff.
Hey I wanna change my bottom bracket and crankset on my giant talon 1 it’s a large 29 er can u give me the specs or sizes where to look to buy sram ? Please
Trying to restore an old bike, bracket width required is 68mm & 34mm seems to be the inner diameter where it will be inserted I've just removed the axle its square at the end and then a part of it is threaded for the nut to keep on the crank when I measure it the total length 147mm, but without the part that's threaded its 127mm, could you cive any advice for a suitable replacement.
I have a dilemma. Glad to have found this but can you explain also the crank compatibility? I have a pf92 frame the bb that comes with it I think is for 30mm spindle but I wanted to reuse my xt crank. Can I use a bb92 instead?
Yes totally! You will just need a new Shimano pf92 bottom bracket to work with your Shimano cranks. We are happy to help, please hit our website and shoot us an email or phone call. We answer technical questions like that all the time :-)
I have a Apollo entice and an Apollo femtb, do you know what sort of bottom bracket they need, the apollo entice is desperate for a new bottom bracket, its wobbly as anything

I just bought a 2019 Trek Roscoe 8 and it has a threaded cartridge BB. What are my upgrade options? I would like to go with a standard threaded bottom bracket from Race Face or SRAM and know I would have to change my crank also.
Hey Shaun, you still have a ton of upgrade options including the new DUB system from SRAM. Shoot us an email at info@worldwidecyclery.com and let us know what you might be thinking to upgrade and our guys at the shop will help you find what you need. :)
I'll shoot you an email Jeff, my answer would be too long for this medium. Great topic by the way and again some good info on the subject, I wouldn't suggest RF bottombrackets though...they wear out quickly, I mean like really really quick!
Boost Cranksets are available but the only difference between one and a "normal" crankset is the chainring will have a 3mm Boost offset vs a "normal" 6mm offset.
@@WorldwideCyclery So if my 2018 Yeti sb5 has RF Turbine crank and I want to swap it for shorter crank arms ...i do not have worry about whether its a boost crank or not? Thanks in advance!!
Many thanks for the video. I have a problem with damaged threads in the frame. The tool needed to recut them is far too expensive. Research shows that you can get, so called, threadless BB's. There are several on ebay that might do the job, but its the dimensions that are confusing me. These are marked on the body of the BB but I don't know what they refer to. For example, there in one marked ' L68x116mmR '. I guess the L and R refer to left and right sides but what do the two measurements refer to? Thank you.
Hello all, hoping this page has some known eyes. I have a bike with a M48 Bottom Bracket. I want to run a shimano xt drive train. The xt BB external cups are smaller then the M48 so I’m wondering if they make a “step down” or is some other option available? Thank you for any help
