- Mike Iaconelli is the 2003 Bassmaster Classic Champion, the 2006 Bassmaster Angler of the Year, an 8 time Bassmaster winner with almost 3 million dollars in tournament winnings. Ike was once referred to as the bad boy of bass fishing and he even made GQ’s list of the top 10 most hated athletes. Well, whoever made that list clearly never asked the actual fans because Ike has amassed one of the biggest followings in pro fishing.
He is a best selling author, a TV host a philanthropist and the creator of the ground breaking podcast, Ike Live. To top that all off, Mike Iaconelli recently found out he will be inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in the fall of 2023. But first, he joins the podcast to talk about all that and so, so much more.

My hats off to you Ike. As someone who's followed you from the Start I accredit your accomplishments as well as bringing fans from all walks of life to follow and participate in bass fishing. And for those who don't know the Ike foundation also does amazing things for urban youth who otherwise wouldn't potentially have the opportunity to experience the joy of fishing and the outdoors. I'm from Alabama and I remember when Mike first started and many southerners didn't like him, but I knew he was good and motivated with determination that intimidated others. I was a fan and after I eventually read his book it explained more about where he came from and he wasn't handed anything. He had work harder than most to achieve his dream. That's to be admired.

He is a legend and an inspiration, met him at bassmaster University in Massachusetts almost 20 years ago. He inspired a generation of young anglers. I go IKE every once In a while when things are going right and wrong.....and by going IKE I mean set the hook like a wild orangutan and fall overboard

I get excited every time Mike screams and roots himself on. The reverence it gives to the catch makes me a kid again. I also like the fact that he doesn’t take shit off anyone. Good dude and real.

I remember watching Ike as a kid. Always had a lot of respect for his passion!
He sure is passionate
I have only been to 4 or 5 weigh-ins at pro level events. I specifically remember one of them I went to and talked to a bunch of different anglers. Almost all of the pros were fairly good about having a conversation. Without a doubt Mike seems to standout with his overall attitude and friendliness. It didn’t hurt he had a pair of hi-top Vans shoes on. Seriously though I have always like Mike but that interaction with him was what you would expect from a true pro! This is coming from a Tennessee boy. I was watching live when IKE was told he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Mike probably thought I was some scammer or something but I snapshot him being told on live. Anyway the snapshot I sent to him on FB messenger with some message. I am sure he thought I was crazy but I was just excited for him!

Dave...I'll admit I am an ike convert...I am an old southern male...I'm not supposed to like mike...and at first I didn't...I didn't not like him but I didn't really like him...BUT over the years after getting to "know " him...reading his book...listening to interviews...ike live...he's worked hard done what he has needed to do ....I'm a fan now and have been for a long time...(thought I might help the algorithm again)

I was a sophomore in college when Ike won the Classic and had grown up on Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston. Me and my buddies seen Ike on TV and said that guys like us… he’s listening to 50 cent! He’s influenced so many. No way to quantify his influence on Fishing and the ground he broke.

In the early 90s I was in the military station in Missouri. I had access to lake of the Ozark’s, Tanycomo, bull shoals, Table Rock lakes. I would watch Fish Fishburne and the antics which he did. I was always a fan of Bill Dance since I’m from Knoxville of all the mishaps that happen to him. It made it interesting and kept fishing alive. I would go out to those lakes and act just like them. Ike does that for me today. I’m 51 and I love the antics and enjoy low T lol. It’s great to have people like Ike, Swindle, Robertson. It keeps it real, interesting and Fun.
I’ve fished a 100 beautiful lakes in Maine BUT… I still want to fish all the downtown puddles, pits, creeks, streams and ponds. the hairy the better…. Thank You, Ike!

Very good to have Ike on your show. Very interesting. I’ve always believed he did everything (screaming, mad at a dog, etc. etc) on purpose to bring attention to himself… his “brand.” So obviously it worked whether he’s liked or not.

I Fished against ike * when we fished the red man tourneys! He was a kid * Think I had 10 years on him ! But when he made it I always cheered fo him ! Northeast boy ! People dont know that back in the day ! Alot of those guys from the south were still fighting the civil war ! They hated him ! He had road blocks from the beginning! And he still became a star ! And a great Fisherman! Respect ike at 60 your still our man !
